My slice of paradise, and my home away from home. The employees became like family. The resort is beautiful, clean, well maintained. We were given a complimentary room upgrade upon arrival. Breakfast was SO good. Longboat Key is my favorite beach. Zota isn’t just a hotel to us!
We stayed at this hotel over Labor Day weekend. Apparently we reserved the old tower. Initially we were given a room with a very distinctive mold and mildew odor as if it was deodorized from a wet dog. Very pungent. Given they are a dog friendly hotel- I asked for a room change and was given a very similar room. The rooms were small and the carpets smelled. We were not expecting this at all and actually have been looking forward to staying at this resort for several years. Finally the 3rd room was somewhat manageable but I woke up on the 2nd night wheezing and coughing uncontrollably. It’s been 45 days since and several doctors visits, I have not been able to kick this persistent cough which originated during my stay. We believe it’s mold related which may be coming from the vents or the old tower. We are further investigating with more tests. I would not be inclined to return as it’s a shame the area around the hotel was beautiful. The additional $40 parking and $20 cabana beach daily fees were a surprise we weren’t expecting which are pretty necessary to have. The service at the restaurant was decent at best. We received zero service during brunch and there was a leaky vent over our table at dinner which the waiter knew about and simply asked if we would prefer to move. Just did not live up to the hype unfortunately. Maybe a different experience for those in the newer tower but definitely not for us
Zota is wonderful!! The service is amazing, from everyone at the front desk, Dan at concierge, Sean & Jack at Valet and everyone at the bar/restaurant!! Being in the hotel industry and knowing how things have changed in hospitality since Covid, the incredible service here was truly the highlight. Roy the general manager was a part of the every day operations by making the stay an experience rather than a hotel stay- greeting everyone as it was his own home. Then you have the beautiful location, awesome views, clean and modern rooms. Its a boutique hotel feel will ALL the amenities. We cant wait to be back!
One of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. Aside from the beautiful beach and pool views, our front desk representative (Haley, not sure if spelling right) was extremely friendly and accommodating for an early check in. Then, we were surprised in our room with a handwritten card and bottle of champagne for my girlfriend’s birthday! This place clearly exemplifies Ritz Carlton level service, and would recommend to anyone thinking of visiting Sarasota.
My husband and I loved the stay. We heard the waves are crushing on a beach from our room it was soothing experience. Service was nice, non-invasive. We had lovely breakfast next morning on the patio with a view the ocean.
We would recommend this hotel to couples. We totally enjoyed our stay.
Nice place overall, but a bit pricey for what you get. This is supposed to be luxury, but if you get room service you might have to call a few times before anyone even picks up and when you do get your food it's in plastic containers with plastic utensils. Mid-range hotels have better room service. The pool is nice and staff were friendly. Nice beach too.
WOW!!! I love Zota! My family has stayed at Zota as well as other Opal Resorts numerous times. We always have a great experience. When my friends from Texas were talking about a girls trip, I asked them to visit me in Florida and recommended Zota. |We had the best time! The service was friendly from the valet to the checkin and housekeeping. We were treated like royalty by our server who took care of us while we spent the whole day talking and laughing by the pool. |My friends can’t wait to return to Zota. I’m looking forward to spending this weekend at Zota with my family! |Thank you Zota and Opal!
I want to give this place 5 stars after it came so highly recommended by friends. A unique & beautiful boutique property with SO MUCH POTENTIAL! Unfortunately our experience was mixed.
The valet team: earning every star possible, they were the real standouts, always smiling, hustling & working hard to create a great impression. ????
The rooms: the view was stunning but every other aspect of the room disappointed. We stayed in older tower which is showing its age, wear & lack of upkeep. Needs a good deep clean, paint touch ups & grout cleaning.
Beach Access: hard to beat, gorgeous and easy access. The free loungers need dire replacing, so worn out you are sitting on the support bars. At one point my husband shifted slightly & his entire chair fell back. Happened to another guest as well. My chair was sheared off on side supports, all chairs in similar condition so if your local you’d probably be more comfortable in your own beach chair ???? Beach staff never checked in with us after initial set up but would have been nice to trade out towels or have food or drink service offered even if app ordering. Bring beach shoes as the sand on Longboat gets hot ???? (we were here in June)! So if you’re with kids, playing in the sand seasonally will be near impossible & everyone will need shoes for sand/shells.
Food Service: Here is the hotel’s ultimate demise. You have a captive audience that is taking thousands of dollars off your property to other businesses because you lack service, offerings & quality of food & drinks. A little goes a long way, a decent cappuccino or legit coffee at breakfast or not treating customers as invisible at the pool
bar, I think getting Grub Hub on an island would have been more friendly & efficient. Started our first night grabbing a drink & app in the bar, drinks were okay but bartender was distracted. Cheese appetizer came out with 2 small slices of bread, we were offered more for $4 but by the time they were brought out the cheese was cold. If that’s how it’s going to be nickel and dime on a small appetizer why would I spend more on dinner? Pool bar was equally awful stood there being passed by by several wait staff and overlooked by two overworked bartenders for over 10 minutes until they finally took our order as we were about to walk away. At that point we didn’t place any food orders and grabbed snacks from our room. Another loss to the hotels revenue. We were happy to spend the money & enjoy your property but couldn’t receive service at every turn. Check-out day breakfast on a Sunday morning, we arrived at 10:15 and were told only buffet being offered, breakfast service ended at 10am. Menu in lobby & person at check in told us breakfast went til 11.
Would love to give it a try again as it is such a unique property but hard to overcome so many shortcomings at this price point.
Highly, highly recommend checking out Shore if dining on island!
