Best WLM Reviews
This has been our neighborhood sushi place for over 17 years. See all the photos of the kids growing up on Zen sushi.
Things to love.
1. Jennifer and her staff are great. Of course there’s turnover; there’s turnover at every restaurant, especially over 17 years, but we have found the staff to be consistently excellent. Sometimes there will be a server who has a bad attitude or doesn’t know the menu, but they are replaced pretty quickly.
2. They have Hamachi Kama. Not every restaurant has this, and it’s wonderful.
3. Extensive menu of both traditional sushi and Americanized sushi. My son only eats chicken Katsu, or California rolls. Or spicy crunchy rolls. I only like things like Toro and Hamachi and Hamachi Kama and uni. The menu has plenty for both of us.
3. They have lunch bento boxes! They also have other lunch specials like the two-roll special and the three-roll special that are really good deals!
4. Outdoor seating! I know the restaurant faces Merrimon, but it’s not on the street, it’s up on the balcony, so that tempers some of the Merrimon noise and dust!
5. They remember us when we come in, and not just Jennifer. The servers remember us, they remember my order, they will tell me what they have that’s fresh that day that they think that I will like.
6. The indoor area is cozy but also bright because of the windows.
7. One time when my son was four, he dropped a favorite dinosaur figurine down the back of the booth. Then he sent another one in after it. 15 years later, and I’m sure it is still there, but Jennifer was so sweet about trying to help us retrieve it. Booth is attached to the wall except that little crack, so we weren’t going to demolish the seat. One day they will remodel and find both dinosaurs.
Thanks Jennifer for almost 2 decades of sushi with us!
This is the best in town! Sushi is at the correct temp, the goyza wrappers are perfect thickness and not gummy, extensive sushi menu.
Zen sushi is the best sushi in Asheville hands down. The fish is fresh, and consistently fresh. Perfectly cut to be a good amount of fish per nigiri, but not so much to overwhelm the mouth. However, I feel like one of the true signs of excellent sushi is excellent rice. Perfectly cooked, seasoned and proportioned. Not gloopy or overwhelming. Presentation is always beautiful. Everytime we go we are blown away with how expertly the sushi is prepared.
For the level of sushi they serve, the atmosphere is comfortingly casual, with good decor and vibes. The people there are so sweet, and take the time to get to now you if you are a regular. Our go tos are the yellowtail and tuna nigiri ????, shrimp tempura, AAC roll, spicy tuna.
I’m so glad we tried Zen! Not only was our server incredibly nice, but the food was tasty and the space was well put together. We will be back!☺️
Great service, super delicious sushi. Good lunch deals
We wanted sushi for our family that was sit down with a server but still casual. This fit the bill. The sushi we got was delicious. I loved the house salad. Everything was reasonably priced and the service was friendly. The young lady working near the door was especially kind to my daughter offering her a seat and water while we waited for our table.
We were traveling but said we want to come back and try more rolls.
I love Zen Sushi, the food was tasty, and the service was excellent. Annie is very good server. The best restaurant in Asheville.
Zen is my favorite spot to get sushi in Asheville. I love the location and the easy parking. Staff are friendly and quick. I can be in and out during lunch within 30 minutes.
The sushi is incredible. I've had everything from the basic rolls and several of the speciality rolls. Have loved everything.
Have went through many of the appetizers and a few of the menu items. Would definitely recommend.
