Update 2024 - July 4th. I loved this place but unfortunately I won't be back until Harold Owen, Mayor Pro Tem resigns. He does not respect freedom of speech, religion, press, or assembly on a traditional public forum. He also does not respect the rights of homeless veterans. Once he is removed from office, I will immediately return. This is not a reflection of Zack's but unfortunately due to city government that makes me uneasy to travel to.
Saw an ad in Our State Magazine and had to try it. Travel through this area all the time but never venture off the interstate. I was impressed. The atmosphere speaks to a hot dog joint. Counter service and many locals that stop by. The service at the table was 4 Star. Not complaining, but the biggest issue is that they were out of several items. The truck was unloading when we left, so perhaps they were back in stock later. I'm first to say that I would go back again. The sauces are unique and please the palate with different combinations. Homemade chili is one of the best I've ever had. Definitely can compete with others for sure.
The waitress (Red) is super friendly and attentive.???????????? My first time and definitely will return just based on service alone. The Menu is typical and food decent, nothing special, but cook correctly! The portions are with in price range for typical breakfast. I will say I loved the biscuit...and I am NOT usually a fan ???? definitely will always pick a biscuit over toast at this spot!!! Kudos Zack's better then Waffle House which is a national chain. Can't wait to try a Hot Dog for lunch. I also hear your chili is great ????
Friendly service, super fast in taking our order and getting out our food. Had a bacon cheese hotdog and a hamburger... both we're excellent. Back in town next week to give them another try. I think Zack's is a great value for your money.
This was my absolute favorite growing up. Ever since the ownership change it’s just plan out sucks. Half of the staff rather gossip and play around than check on their tables. The food is gross, and I don’t know WHY anyone would buy this booming business that came with loyal customers just to go and change it!!!! Bring back the old Zacks and stop serving gross hotdogs with so much grease the bread is soggy! I am so disappointed. I gave this place chance after chance as it was my absolute favorite before it got bought out. After multiple disappointments I won’t be back.
Passing through Burlington and saw this place. i ordered a 5 piece chicken wings with ranch and it was really really good! There was a good amount of sauce on the wings and the sauce was delicious. The ranch is also very good. Would definitely recommend! Almost forgot to mention, I went through the drive through and did not have to wait long at all! Very happy.
Very good place to eat with really good service. My second time here both very memorable. I had a hot dog and hamburger with fries, all delicious. Don’t forget to try the zack sauce, it’s hot and spicy yummy! We’ll be back again!
How devastating to learn that all the rumors were true. I grew up in Burlington and like most people that live in the area, Zacks was a regular part of our lives. I moved several years ago and heard about Zack’s being sold. I heard about the level of service dropping. Heard about the chili and the food in general not being as good. Didn’t think it could have possibly gone that downhill that fast but boy was I wrong. Mid afternoon on a Saturday- used to be a fight for a spot in the parking lot much less to get a table. Today there was one diner in the restaurant. We came in to make a large to go order and were not acknowledged when we came in the door and were only acknowledged after standing at the register for several minutes, asking if we were dining in or getting an order to go. We let them know it was a to go order and then continued to stand there. After ten minutes of standing and waiting for our order to be taken and watching one of the girls cooking run her gloved hand through her hair then pick up a hotdog with the same hand, we opted to leave. Boston sandwich shop gladly took our order and were kind and very efficient in getting our large order out quickly. What an absolute disappointment Zack’s has turned into.
Cash only, classic old hot dog/ sandwich diner type place. 12:15 pm on a Friday at lunch there were two or three groups waiting for spots. Within 5 minutes of walking in we found two spots at the counter and within 5 minutes of sitting down we had our food. We both did hot dogs with mustard, slaw, and chili and I also did a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. Like other reviews have said, the cheese was not melted but that's because they basically had food prepared and were assembling it to order. But it was still extremely good for a basic hot dog and burger. Veggies were fresh, cole slaw crisp, chili is pleasant and somewhat peppery. Bacon, burger and hot dogs all cooked as they should be. Hot dogs had a good texture but the overall effect was a little on the bland side. Add some of their famous sauce to give it a zesty kick. Enjoyed it all and certainly would go back and order the same again. Sitting at the counter we had the enjoyment of being able to see the whole restaurant which was quite entertaining. The number of plates that some of the servers were able to carry was amazing. The particular person behind the counter helping us was a very charming classic country lady.
