i don’t write many bad reviews but when i’m inclined, i will.
zach’s is rough. we walked into some really loud fellas who seemed to all be friends with the FOH guy (probably from the tattoo shop next door). waited for a minute or two to get our order in and i asked “how are ya?” the guy says “idk” really weirdly and i was like “okay great”
we ordered a cucumber marg, whiskey coke, chicago dog and a seattle dog.
the guy forgot my cucumber marg but made my partners whiskey coke on the spot. i went in to ask about my drink but he seemed WAY too preoccupied with the zoo that was going on with the other patrons. when he finally brought it out it didn’t have a rim on it and had to ask for that, and then he brought out the fully prepared drink with literally no liquor in it (even tho their menu states in handwriting that all drinks have 2oz pours).
he also charged us full price for the drinks during happy hour, which was only supposed to cost us $4 each.
i had asked for cucumbers instead of sport peppers on my dog and didn’t get the cucumbers, and it didn’t even come on a poppy seed bun like it says. my partners seattle dog was slapped with two globs of cream cheese and wayyy too much onion. both of which, were super tiny and just meh. i will give the chicago dog points for green relish and that it does LOOK good.
the atmosphere was blech. bad rap playing, the back patio is disheveled and kinda gross, and it was way too expensive (when it shouldn’t have been for happy hour) for us to ever want to come back.
go to Franks-a-lot. we went immediately after to get the bad taste out of our mouths and those guys over there are just the sweetest and always deliver on the best quality. i’m not sure why we went to zach’s in the first place.
Dicey spot and I love it. Nice little (but kinda large) patio in the back with ping pong and some other games. The wife enjoyed her cocktail and the tap was cold and fresh. Food was pretty decent. The fry sauce has A LOT of horseradish and that caught us off guard. The dogs were pretty tasty.
A Portland institution. Been going here for 20+ years back when it was an actual shack where we'd stop for a late-night snack before a stumble home. The quality is still top notch with a great variety of different dogs on the menu. There's always good music playing and their brick-and-mortar location has a spacious patio out back .
Great time at Zach's Shack! The Chicago Dog was delicious and the back area was fun for some ping pong and sun! We will definitely be back!
An absolute treasure of a dive bar, though I do miss when Val ran the weekends (she played better music, classic 90s hip hop). All the bartenders here are great, they're fast and they're nice. I've met the owner, Zach, a few times as he'll swing by late during the weekend to play ping pong out back. Plenty have challenged him, I've yet to see him lose. Best place in town for deliciously trashy bar food and cheap drinks. Upgrade your dog to the spicy sausage, trust me, it's worth it.

Back to the football game ????????
Hard to gauge as we picked a bad day. Fryer was down so no fried foods. The hotdog was tasty - but pretty expensive for what we got.
Service was phenomenal, especially considering we had a very large group who invaded.
I liked the vibe, but the layout was a little restrictive for moving around (again, maybe just bc the size of our group)
Listen. This place has really good hot dogs. But the last FIVE times we have ordered from DoorDash. They have cancelled. Completely unbeknownst to us and has derailed dinners and meals for us annd our children. Unfortunately we cannot support a business that ignores and disregards customers. Had we done something to warrant this behavior??? sure. But we respect service workers and people in the food industry beyond belief. Too bad, because we liked them. Won’t be ordering or going there again.
