Best WLM Reviews
If you’re looking for authentic Chinese cuisine in a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, Yu’s Mandarin in Wheeling is an excellent choice. The restaurant’s décor is charming, with traditional Chinese elements and elegant touches that create a warm and inviting dining space. The red lanterns and thoughtful wall art add to the cultural ambiance, making it a great spot for family gatherings or special occasions.
Highlights of the Meal:
1. Lobster Dish: The lobster, served with aromatic onions and a flavorful sauce, was fresh and perfectly cooked. The meat was tender, succulent, and seasoned to perfection—a luxurious treat that felt worth every bite.
2. Steamed Whole Fish: This classic Chinese delicacy was a standout. The fish was steamed to maintain its natural flavor, topped with a generous amount of julienned green onions and light soy sauce. It was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked—delicate and melt-in-your-mouth.
3. Broccoli with Sea Cucumber and Mushrooms: A unique dish with an earthy and rich sauce that paired beautifully with tender broccoli. The sea cucumber and mushrooms added depth and texture, making this dish both nourishing and satisfying.
4. Dumplings: While not the centerpiece, the dumplings were a comforting addition to the table. Soft, flavorful, and well-seasoned, they rounded out the meal perfectly.
Overall Impression:
The quality of the food at Yu’s Mandarin is outstanding, with a focus on fresh ingredients and authentic preparation. The service was attentive, ensuring plates were cleared promptly and drinks refilled without interruption. Whether you’re indulging in a special seafood dish or exploring other classic menu items, Yu’s Mandarin delivers an experience that stands out in the Chicagoland area.
I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone craving a memorable and delicious Chinese dining experience.
I wish I could liked this Yu restaurant better than the original in Schaumburg. The food here was good but not great. The original ones food always have wok flavor and flavors.
However I do like the lunch specials here. Specially the beef chow fun noodles, the Taiwanese beef noodles soup wasn’t flavorful enough and the noodles were mushy.
Pad Thia with Tofu and their Noodle soup were both delicious. Noodle soup was a bit spicy, not too much, with big round noodles and bits of seafood. We learned that if you want, the kitchen will split the giant bowl into two servings if you want to share. Started the meal with big meaty fried pot stickers, definitely flavors of Asia it the mixture. Hot Jasmine tea on the table.
Nice place that attracts both local residents and Asian stomach, food is good, serving speed is decent and price is still somewhat fair to todays inflation
I'm very glad we found this place. Their seafood noodle soup is very authentic and flavorful. The service was great and prices were reasonable.
Nice to see Yu's took over previous Chinese restaurant, Golden Chef! Golden Chef was great but so is Yu's. Quality and service consistent with Schaumburg location, and also have a nice window view of the all behind-the-scenes of the kitchen and cooking. Venue is nice and clean but the seating/table situation to maximize space can be a bit better. Pictured here is their Hot & Sour Soup - if you don't like peppery, pass this up and grab an Egg Drop Soup, Wonton Soup, or for a serving for two, order the Crab & Velvet Corn Soup; Crab Rangoon; Orange Chicken; and Singapore Rice Noodles - tasty but was a bit oily. Didn't order their popular Lollipop Chicken Wings this time around, but definitely will next time.
Love that Yu’s has another location in Wheeling, closer to me! Have been to their Vernon Hills location numerous times. Have yet to patronize their Schaumburg location. The Wheeling location continues in the Yu’s Mandarin tradition of great food, great service and great prices. Portions are substantial and worth the money you are paying. You may hesitate at the price but when that plate comes out you will see it is more than worth it. Nice space as well!
Unfortunately, the servings portion were not consistent. The Scallop with Beef and Vegetables dish was too small (very delicious) compared to the other two dishes that ordered: Pork with Bean Curd & Green Leek (not a fan, didn't taste anything special); Fish Casserole (it was good). Very disappointing with the small portion of the scallop with Beef and Vegetables dish!
