I really wanted to like this Yogi Bear, but unfortunately there were just too many things that weren't well done. My extended family all booked here. In total we had 4 campsites and a cabin. Before I explain some of the not so nice things, I will say that the activity staff were all very friendly and they had a lot of activities planned. I was shocked that many of the camp sites were empty our entire stay Thursday to Monday. The camp map online and the amenities found on the mobile App are not accurate, so keep in mind there is no dog park which was a disappointment. The camp sites are nice, but some of us had trouble with the electric amps. When water was run in the cabin, there were strong sewage smells. The pool appears to be dirty because of the color of the lining however it was very clean and the kids enjoyed it. My parents purchased ice at the store and then when they went to put it in their car were questioned oddly on if they paid for it. When we ordered ice to our site it took 2 hours and a second attempt to remind them we ordered ice. What really turned us off was how rude one of the workers was about wearing out wrist bands. I understand that they do not want people coming in and using their facilities off the street but wearing the same wrist band for your entire trip is ridiculous. AND then yelling at campers who pay way to much to be there anyway is uncalled for. My oldest daughter (7 years old) has extreme sensory issues and sensitive skin from cancer treatments and when I told the lady she could not wear her wrist band she said " Well she cant do anything in the campground without it" My daughter was in tears terrified to even move around the campground. Oh and even with our wrist bands on my family was still charged $89 to use the pool. (Yes, I was refunded but only because I caught the automatic charge to my account). The pool staff takes a 15 min break every hour or so and this means everyone has to get out of the pool. This made life miserable for parents with young kids. For the amount this place costs you don't expect to have these kind of issues arise. My family went to a state park for 1/4 of the cost 2 weeks prior and enjoyed it more. Be cautious when spending your hard earned money to camp here.
The campgrounds were immaculate, and many of the staff members were warm and inviting. However, some could benefit from a bit more training- sometimes, a smile can make all the difference. We primarily chose this location for the advertised dog water park, but we were disappointed to discover, after checking in and setting up camp, that there was no such facility. Despite, this the campground is lively and offers a variety of activities to enjoy.
Our extended family had a WONDERFUL time at your park. Ages of 5 grands from 3 to 11 and they ALL enjoyed the pool, mini-golf, train, huge indoor sandbox, candy BINGO, gaga ball and the bear visits! Our sites were HUGE and well-shaded, with a nearby playground and lots of grassy play areas. The camp store was very well-stocked and fairly priced, as well as the pool snack bar for pizza and ice cream. We appreciated the 15-minute safety checks every hour for the pool staff, and that gave us a chance to re-apply sunscreen to our kiddos and for everyone to get a small snack/drink. The ice/firewood deliveries to our campsites were timely and everyone was so friendly and pleasant. Bathrooms are very clean and stocked. The town of Hartville is 5 minutes away and has everything you may have forgotten or need! (Must chk out the Hartville Market Place & Flea Market…the freshest local produce!) The only disappointment was the newly-advertised dog park was not complete/open yet, and we were looking frwd to that for pup. But, all and all, this is a VERY clean, well-maintained and friendly campground and we truly enjoyed our stay here! Hope to come back when we’re in Ohio again!
Our family of six just spent two nights there in one of the glamping tents and had a GREAT time! Our kids are ages 13, 8, and two 6yo's and there was plenty of fun stuff for everyone to do! I love going to a camping resort where there is enough to do that we do not need to leave to find fun and entertainment. Akron-Canton Jellystone has it all in one spot! We went swimming and enjoyed all of the outdoor amenities (mini golf, giant sandbox, hamster wheel, jump pad, gem mining, etc.)
The bathrooms were pretty nice for a campground! All flushing, no portapotties. I do wish that the soap was within reach for children though... My 8yo could barely reach the soap dispensers and my 6yo twins could not all. This means that small children using the bathroom unassisted are not able to wash their hands. ???? Maybe some step-stools or a lower dispenser would be an improvement? The small bridge also needs some repairs done, it is very rickety and feels like it will collapse soon. These are NOT complaints though, just some suggestions for improvements. And those are the only suggestions I have because everything was so great!
The staff were all very friendly and conducive to the fun; you can tell they enjoy their jobs. The glamping tent was cool and came with a mini fridge that was larger than I expected and a microwave. The appliances were pretty clean and the site overall looked nice. The camp store was pretty fairly priced and well stocked. I highly recommend Akron-Canton Jellystone to families with children!
We had so much fun here! It was perfect for all age groups we have a family of 5 and everyone had the absolute best experience! Lacy and Lori are workers at this location and they really went above and beyond to make campers feel right at home! All of the staff members are top notch!
Since it is the end of the season, I called on Friday to ask if their dog pool would be open Sunday, October 6th. I was told yes, it would open at 10 and the cost is $8. I drove 45 minutes just to be told it was closed.
STAY AWAY if you have a big rig, 5th wheel, or any RV with even a moderately tall roof. The roof on our 5th wheel was damaged due to the multiple untrimmed trees in this park. Now we're forced to make a claim on our insurance to get the roof replaced. (Jellystone's insurance refused our claim) Our repair facility gave initial estimates of around $15,000 worth of damage.
After the damage to our 5th wheel when coming in, I refused to let any more branches scrape our rig. The main entry/exit had such low branches that it did not seem possible to leave without branches scraping the RV. I had to stop, walk up to the office, and ask an employee to assist. Instead of trimming the tree, they simply used a pole to hold the branches out of the way while we went through. (See pic) These branches scraped our rig and roof when we initially came in, although these were not the same branches that caused damage to our roof.
We've taken our 5th wheel all over the country and stayed at several Jellystones. In my opinion, this park's trees appeared to be more neglected than any other Jellystone we've visited. In my experience, this level of tree maintenance is more what I'd expect to see at some state parks facing budget constraints.
Wonderful place for the kids. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Campground was well maintained and clean. Will definitely return!
