I took my Mom to stay in a cabin for her 85th birthday. We stayed in a cabin on the hill behind the dining hall and it was so relaxing and quiet. We were able to complete a ceramic project and pick it before leaving. Swimming was also alot of fun and we were the only family in the pool. My girls came up with their families to share the day and celebrate 85 wonderful years. No elk were seen around the property but we saw some close up in Estes Park.
This is the second time I've stayed in one of the cabins at YMCA of the Rockies and I love the peace and solitude of coming here in the off season. During this trip, I knew that I would need to have a Zoom meeting at 10:00 on the day of my departure. When making the reservation, I requested an 11:00 checkout as the normal checkout is 10:00. I was told to call the night before my departure to make sure nobody would be checking into my cabin but that it shouldn't be a problem as it's the off season. When I checked in, I mentioned the late checkout and was again told to call the night before my departure to make sure that would be okay. As instructed, I called the front desk tonight to request a late checkout in the morning. To complicate matters, Denver (where I am driving to) currently has a Winter Storm Warning. I spent the day carefully studying the weather and determined that there will be a break in the snow from 11:00 - 3:00, making that the safest time to travel. Because of my meeting, if I am unable to check out at 11:00, I would need to leave around 7:00 to make sure I could get home in time given the unsafe weather conditions at that time, or I would need to check out after my meeting at 11:00 - the safest time in the next few days to travel. Unfortunately, when I called the front desk, I was told that I would have to call back in the morning (even though I'd been told to call the night before checkout). I explained that I would need to know this evening as I would likely need to book a hotel in town if they weren't able to give me an 11:00 am checkout. The woman I spoke with was very dismissive and said that was their policy. I asked to speak with the desk manager, knowing that employees often don't have the power to bend the rules. Ryan came on the line and reiterated that I'd have to call back in the morning. I said that, given the weather conditions and the fact that I would likely need to book a hotel if I couldn't get a late checkout, surely they could let me know tonight. He again repeated that I'd have to call in the morning. I pointed out that it appeared that no more than 20 cabins were currently occupied, so it wasn't like they were fully booked. He just kept repeating that I'd have to call back in the morning in a very dismissive tone. My first problem is that I was told when I made the reservation, and told by the front desk when I checked in, that I should call the night before my scheduled checkout, not the morning of. My second problem is the callousness of choosing not to give someone peace of mind when there is a Winter Storm Warning and about 90% of the cabins are currently empty.
My stay at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park was an unforgettable experience. Surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the Rockies, I was immediately taken by the stunning mountain views and the peaceful atmosphere. The location is perfect for exploring Rocky Mountain National Park, and the wide variety of outdoor activities right on site made it easy to stay active and immersed in nature.
What I loved most was the sheer number of things to do—whether it was hiking, horseback riding, or just taking in the views from the property, there was always something to keep me entertained. The family-friendly vibe was wonderful, and I appreciated the organized activities and opportunities to learn more about the local wildlife and environment.
The accommodations were comfortable and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. While the rooms are simple, they were clean, and the staff were friendly and always willing to help. I especially enjoyed the peaceful evenings after a full day of activities, soaking in the beauty of the Rockies.
Overall, my time at the YMCA of the Rockies was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. It’s an ideal place for families, nature lovers, or anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy the mountains. I’d definitely recommend it and can’t wait to go back!
Overall we had a good stay. The location was perfect for everything we did (Rocky Mountain National Park, the town of Estes). We got to see a ton of elk right on site along with on our front porch! The trails on the property were great and kid friendly. They had very limited activities for kids 7 and under, but what they did have my kids didn’t seem to mind. Anything you want to do that is more extreme is all extra so prepare for that. The cabin was perfect size for my husband, my two kids and I. We had to drive around the property a lot to get to where we wanted to go, but didn’t mind. ||My biggest con of this place is the food. The aspen dining hall was AWFUL. Do NOT waste your $22 per person there. The food was barely edible. Everyone around us was complaining how bad it was so wasn’t just us! Luckily kids were free but my kids wouldn’t even eat the food, nor would I. Just terrible. Better off leaving property to eat every night. This was our biggest disappointment because we didn’t prepare to bring our own meals, and the dining hall was the only option there aside from a small cafe that served pizza, which is better than what they offered at the buffet.
The staff at the check-in counter was absolutely delightful, sweet, and incredibly kind. Even though we checked in quite late, around 10:30 pm, she was still energetic and bubbly. We stayed for two nights in a room with a balcony view, and waking up to the sight of the mountains was breathtaking. We weren't aware that the rooms didn't have air conditioning, but the front desk suggested we keep our windows open at night since the temperatures were expected to drop. The windows are well protected with mesh, so the chance of bugs or insects getting in was minimal. The room was neat, cozy, and comfortable, and the bathroom was clean. This location is very close to the Rocky Mountains, just a 10-15 minute drive to the entrance. I highly recommend this place ????
I first stayed in a cabin at the Y Camp fifty years ago. This year we returned with my son and his family. The cabins are much upgraded, but the experience is just as good. More mobile of us enjoyed several guided hikes. Kids spent a lot of time making ceramics and bracelets. Youngest loved the firestarter class so much he did it twice. Great place to stay with a family. Lots to do and the kids can walk to their activities without fear. We love the Y Camp.
By far the worst stay I have ever had! I 100% recommend staying anywhere than here.
Let me start by saying the staff is very nice and the property outside of the lodges is kept up well. It all stops there. The cabins may be better, but the lodge we stayed in was beyond horrible.
We stayed in one of the lodges, the rooms have zero amenities. There was only a community coffee pot in the main lobby area which you couldn’t use if you wanted to, considering the amount of people in there constantly and it wouldn’t be sanitary anyways. There also are no ice machines. These are minor considering the rooms. The first thing we noticed was that the deadbolt had been stripped from the door. The room was not clean at all! The walls were filthy, the sheets had stains (we went to the store and bought bedding to sleep on). The base of the shower had dry mold set in from the leaking shower head that has obviously been that way for a long time. We actually tried to find somewhere else to stay but everything was booked at this point. We decided to make the best of it and went and bought bedding as stated above. There is no way you can sleep in these rooms, as the walls are paper thin. At 4 am both nights we stayed, it sounded like whoever was above us was going to come through the ceiling and fall on us. You literally hear and actually feel every movement above you. It shakes the room. We stayed away from here as much as we could, but our second night we came back at about 9 PM and there were A ton of kids running and yelling up and down the hallway. Finally, at 10:30 I called Small that is not assigned to summer camp program the main office to ask if someone could come address the issue. I was then told quiet time was not until 11, and they would send someone to check on it after that. the rooms were extremely hot, you could not adjust the thermostats it was 74 to 80° at all times and you could not open a window. They have a cheap box fan that did not help at all. Needless to say we could not sleep at all during the trip. Beyond all of this the side of our bed was broken down and the mattresses were cheap, hard as a rock and completely uncomfortable. I normally hate to write bad reviews, but this was one of the worst experience that I have ever had staying anywhere.
Pro: location is the best. Also, feels safe and secure
Cons: room was clean but no safety chain or dead bolt. Rack on wall was coming unscrewed and rods were loose. There was some sort of bar apparatus on the windows that was completely apart. Plus bugs in light fixtures. The lodge was extremely noisy with kids talking loudly in hallways and adults yelling at the kids down the hall. Also, phone didn’t work.
Food: Rustic Cafe was closed the three times I tried to get food there (this was during posted hours. Did have sign saying they would be back; didn’t happen) I ate at Aspen Dining. Food was what I would expect from a cafeteria; could be better/could be worse.
The only saving grace was the safe comfortable location. Can’t say if I will stay again.
