Best WLM Reviews
It was my first time trying Yemeni food and I LOVED IT. My friend and I had the roasted lamb and the saltah - both dishes were 10/10. The chef was really welcoming and friendly too! Will definitely go back ⭐️
Yemen Kitchen is a hidden gem in the Tenderloin district. Arriving for Saturday lunch, we were greeted warmly by the owner/chef, who promptly started cooking after we placed our orders.
The highlight of our meal was the roasted lamb - tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor. Served with spiced rice, a light salad, and stewed veggies, it was more than enough for two. We happily took the leftovers home for later.
The stir-fry beef over hummus was a delightful fusion of flavors and textures. The beef was impeccably cooked, tender and juicy, while the housemade sauce on the side added a subtle kick without overwhelming the palate.
The soft Tawa bread was perfect for sopping up the rich flavors of the lentil soup and hummus.
The Yemeni chai and Basbousa semolina cake) completed a truly satisfying meal.
With prices so reasonable, it's clear that this is a place that values both quality and affordability.
Places like this, with their resilience surviving through COVID and skillful culinary abilities, remind me why San Francisco is such a great city. Hidden gems are to be discovered if you are adventurous. Don't forget to support local small businesses like Yemen Kitchen to help the local community in the city.
In my opinion this is the best hidden culinary gem in San Francisco. Owners and staff are absolutely the kindest people. The food is proper authentic Yemeni cuisine. Everything is amazing but my go to is the Saltah and Yemeni bread with a side of hot sauce (think fresh salsa). Don’t miss out on anything with lamb. Space is tight but always seem to strike up nice conversation with fellow
Diners. This place is well worth a visit if you’re in the area of Market or Union Square. Space is no frills with endearing photos of the owner’s past soccer teams with beautiful arabic music playing in the background. This is food made with love.
Dirty menu, dirty table and the sign outside is another indication that the atmosphere has issues. The people were so friendly however. Food was good but not so special. Falafel was plain, salad was nothing special. Goat stew was too spicy.
This is that type of 10/10 hole in the wall restaurant. It’s not in the best neighborhood, but the quality of the food is much better than most established middle eastern restaurants, and you can tell the food is made with love. Plus, Yemeni cuisine is also super unique compare to other middle eastern food! I encourage everybody to give it a try!
Food was very good. If you haven't had Yemeni food, it's time to give it a try. Different from other Middle Eastern restaurants. Tawa bread is amazing. Lots of meat dishes. Big platters of rice and chicken lamb or beef. Beef stew called Saltah. Seating for about 8 people, also good for carryout. Not great for vegan or gluten free dishes. Online ordering options seem to have more vegetarian choices.
I would give 10 stars if I could! This humble little place is rich in flavor and hospitality. Servings are generous. The person at the front desk was welcoming and friendly, and fun to talk to. I’m vegetarian, but my partner ordered the roast lamb (they definitely recommend it) which came with the most delicious vegetables ever! I also had the yemeni bread with a kind of salsa/cilantro pico de gallo sauce, which was yummy. And the chai was bomb! Highly recommend taking a detour to this hidden gem!
Stopped in for a quick lunch and was graced by the tender bliss that is chicken kabsah. The intensity of spice was enough to leave me both surprised and humored. Will recommend to a friend. ???? And will be back to try the baklava. ????
