Best WLM Reviews
Service of this place is good. That would be understatement. It’s inexpensive and the best Chinese I have had in California. . Had yang chow fried rice and 12 piece fried dumplings. Both were great. Would definitely be back for more
Overall food was pretty good and came at decent prices.
The sizzling rice soup was one of the highlights. Good value and taste.
General Tsengs chicken dish was also good, and something I hadn't seen before.
Pan fried noodles and dumplings were good but nothing special.
Service was excellent - continuous water refills, they package leftovers, and everyone is friendly.
I was in the area craving Chinese food and decided to try Yang Chow after seeing the high reviews. They have convenient valet parking in the back, which was a nice touch. Even though it was busy, the wait was only around 20-25 minutes, and once we were seated, the service was impressively fast. The fried wontons were so crispy and light – a perfect start to the meal! I tried the orange chicken, slippery shrimp, and kung pao chicken, and all three are absolute must-tries. My favorite, though, was the hot and sour soup – it had the perfect balance of flavors. I also noticed that the manager is very hands-on and clearly cares about the restaurant and providing exceptional customer service. I’d definitely recommend Yang Chow to anyone looking for amazing Chinese food with top-notch service.
With its slightly worn out red carpet, revolving trays, and pictures of celebs hanging throughout the place, Yang Chow leans into its old school appeal, but maintains focus on the food and service.
The main draw is the slippery shrimp, and while I'm not a big fan of shrimp dishes, this is not one you'll want to skip. The shrimp are slightly crispy, sweet and salty without that overly shrimpy taste. Fantastic!
We also ordered the Kung Pao chicken, Moo Shu pork with pancakes, green bean with pork, pan fried noodle with beef, and veggie fried rice. All were great, but we all agreed the pan fried noodles were a bit bland.
The staff and service were great and the food was served quickly and hot.
I searched around and found this old restaurant apparently with many celebrities coming here throughout the years. Definitely make reservations as there will be a line!
We ordered a bunch of appetizers and main dishes for a group of 9 and had plenty of leftovers. The taste on average is tailored to Americans and less genuine for typical Chinese. All my white friends LOVE the food though! Our server Benny is FANTASTIC and kept everyone entertained throughout the meal.
Appetizers:
- Spicy wonton soup: The most popular dish with the crowd in a dark garlic spicy soup that is like a French onion soup.
- Spring rolls: Hot fried rolls with chopped Napa cabbage. Really tasty.
- Steamed soup dumplings: basically XLB which is ok. Serve with vinegar.
Main dishes:
- Slippery shrimp: Apparently a signature dish everyone gets. Cooked in a thick orange/lemon tangy sauce. Feels ok and not super impressive to my Chinese palette.
- Kung Pao shrimp: More flavorful version with peanuts and chopped veggies. My preferred way to cook shrimp.
- Mongolian beef with scallions: Good.
- Lamb with asparagus: Good.
- Veggie fried rice: A bit plain.
- Beef Lo Mein: Semi soupy soft noodle. It cooks with pork on the menu but you can substitute for beef. Good.
Overall pretty good choice for semi authentic Chinese food. The service and vibe was excellent and they serve food fast, which I appreciate.
The restaurant is somewhat small, but well distributed. It can accommodate small and large parties. We went Father's Day Sunday, and were able to get a table for five after about 20 minutes of waiting.
The food was amazing! My son got chicken chow mein, with no vegetables. Considering there was a lack of vegetables, it was still delicious.
I got the Three Musketeers lomein and was very pleased. It had a nice balance between the meats and veggies. We got the chicken wings- eat them with the sauce! Having said that, they are spicy, if you don't like spicy, maybe get the sauce of the side. The portions are shareable size! We didn't know and we each got a plate and had plenty to take back to the hotel.
The customer service is great. Can't wait to come back to California, and est there again.
This was such a neat place to visit. The Slippery shrimp is definitely the best. I don't like seafood but we ordered it anyway and wow...it's amazing! All the food was served hot as it came out instead of all coming at once. We really enjoyed it here and prices are very reasonable.
The food portions were excellent for the price and the service was top notch. Food came out super fast and was really good. We liked the schezuan chicken a lot, and it was shareable. The atmosphere was nicer than I expected based on the google images. Lots of business meetings happening around us over cocktails. We had a toddler with us and the servers were friendly and accommodating, immediately providing a high chair. One of the better dining experiences I’ve had in LA.
