I really liked the restaurant. They are very friendly.
The food was good. I had the shrimp and gravy. The sides I chose were cabbage and collard greens. Both were very good. It came with a square of cornbread.
I will probably go back and try some other items.
11/14/2024: Oh my God! Baby! Y’all’s Down Home Southern Cafe was so delicious that it made my soul smile.
I was greeted by Mr. Jeff and Jasmine was my waitress. Their customer service is top tier. I always say whenever you’re greeted with a nice smile, everything will taste good!
It didn’t take long to be served after placing my order. Or maybe the time passed by fast because of the grape Kool-Aid that was made with the perfect amount of sugar.
I ordered the chicken fried steak, collard greens, red beans and the double crusted peach cobbler. This is the first time that I’ve never had to add extra seasoning to my food. It was provided but not needed. As I type this I’m still in my car, too satisfied to drive to my destination. Every item I ordered was properly cooked and maybe they added an ounce of love it in too. I ate everything.
The restaurant is cozy and has a beautiful New Orleans theme.
The only thing I didn’t like is I had to leave ????. I can’t wait to dine here again. I wish they had a restaurant in my city.

Amazing. Simply amazing. This food is incredible here. I forgot to get a pic before but everything was gourmet-perfect. A lot of care and attention went into the flavors here. Our server, Hannah, was incredibly patient and kind. By a very far margin, this was an outstanding experience and the food is so good. If you like home-cooked, deep south, soulful, or New Orleans, or are curious, this is it, top-tier.
Where do I even begin? I’m from Atlanta, where there’s an actual good food spot on every corner, when I came to Austin, I had a hard time finding soul food! I found this amazing place and vibe! The music DID NOT MISS, the staff was kind, and the food was DELICIOUS!!! You want flavor and food made from love? You gotta try Y’all’s Down Home Cooking! I had to make videos bc words just can’t do this place Justice! My server was so attentive and fun! She alone was a vibe, but the place just makes you feel good!!! Kirsten, thanks so much beautiful! I’m definitely a forever customer. Thanks to the entire staff!!! Come get y’all some amazing food! Oh and they are crazy affordable!!!!!!!
Tucked away in the corner of the mall, you find an eclectic decorated restaurant. Our server, Liz, was absolutely great. She had great recommendations and provided the right amount of attention. I had the bourbon pork chops with green beans, corn bread, and collard greens. The corn bread is some of the best that I have had in recent memory. Green beans were seasoned, and you felt the downtime taste and the pork chops had Loisiana bourbon taste and were juicy.
Certainly, I will go back and try other menu items. I was there 1.30pm on a Saturday, and service time was acceptable.
Came for the first time for dinner, excited based off the multiple reviews I read but unfortunately didn't have that experience myself.
We ordered fried catfish with mac n cheese and collard greens, and the catfish po boy with yams. The catfish platter came with cornbread which I have to say was my favorite thing on my plate. The sides, in my opinion, lacked any strong flavor, and the catfish was fried too hard in that the batter and the fish separated from it and basically just broke down anytime I tried to cut or break a piece off. The portion size was nice in that I had a whole filet I could take for leftovers if I wanted too but overall, I was bit let down by the flavor and cook of our food.
Our server wasn't bad but also didn't make any effort to add anything to the overall experience.
The restroom itself is casual with Louisiana decor.
Customer service was superb ! The waiter was personable and just gave great vibes .
Catfish were two large fillets, seasoned well with a side of red beans and rice and cabbage . Somebody in the kitchen was heavy handed on the pepper with the cabbage and black eyed peas . Cornbread wasn’t sweet enough and a little too dry for my liking . For me , a side of butter for cornbread is always a red flag . Yams hit the spot . Chicken wings seasoned to perfection . Wings needed to be fried a bit longer . Took a little extra strength to pull the chicken apart . Wings were nice size just like the catfish . Boudin was a link that was fried . It was ok . Strawberry Daquiri was small but mighty . I had two and couldn’t do nothing else all day .
Amazing food and service. They have a sign that says they are short staffed, but we still got incredible service from Shay. I ordered the fried pork chops, mash, and collard greens. The corn bread was the best I've had. Everything tasted fresh and amazing. I will be coming back.
