Yakitori is one of my favorites when it comes to dining. I had high hopes for Yakyudori, but I'm afraid it fell a bit short in execution. All of the skewers I ordered were off the charts when it came to salt, and I love salt. Flavors were decent...but the salt kept me from really enjoying the skewers like I wanted to. Which is really too bad, because the skewers were cooked perfectly. Ahi tuna was my favorite dish and I found it to be perfect in every way. Octopus sushi was a bit tougher than I would have liked and the heavy wasabi flavor sometimes overpowered it. Soba noodles were a bit soggy and and overcooked.
As for the ambience, typical seating arrangement for a relatively small place, and tables were clean. The music coming from the kitchen was only playing to serve the staff and not the guests. Rap music probably not the right selection for an establishment like this.
Staff was kind, and service was quick, but a lot of personal chit chat going on.
I would have liked to try the ramen, but will probably pass on a second visit. I was solo and spent about $80 dollars with only water to drink. Value, I'm afraid, just wasn't there.
Yakyudori in Convoy is one of my favorite spots when I crave Yakitori. It’s great because they stay open until midnight. We ordered pork and chicken katsu, steamed and fried dumplings, fried chicken with stir-fried rice, yakitori bacon and asparagus, and chicken gizzards. I miss the food and the place. Even when we’re a group of six and it’s late in the evening, they’re still open. Although the bathroom isn’t very clean late at night, the servers are nice and the atmosphere is awesome!
The franchise Japanese cuisine restaurant at the local area. The dining area is small while there are tables for groups and bars for individuals. There are rice bowls and ramen as main course while offering several kinds of Yakitori options. Tried the beef tongue as it is somehow expensive. The Asparagus with bacon wrapped is great! The Uzura should be taken before it cools down. I chose wanton men as my main dish as there would be both ramen and pork dumpling inside. One thing to mention is to wear the clothes of Padres during the game time to enjoy special beer. Also they have a Ramen challenge to finish ramen in 2 minutes and get it for free.
Discover the best Yakitori in town! Our expertly grilled skewers showcase the freshness and sweetness of oysters, perfectly paired with soy butter. Please be aware that oyster orders may be limited. For an alternative choice, our Spicy Tonkotsu ramen is a popular option. As we operate on a first-come, first-served policy, plan to arrive 15 minutes before opening to ensure your spot.
The chicken was overcooked and greasy.....the ramen was good and the spicy flavor was on point....the chicken threw it off however so, it could have been perfect if the chicken would have been cooked properly.....probably would not return if I was ever in San Diego again....
Update: my next few visits were so-so. Greasy tablets, sticky surfaces, food wasn't as great as my first few times, servers seemed apathetic, etc.
One of those places where you can get an "authentic" (without sounding pretentious) izakaya experience - very good service and order delicious, actual Japanese food - not "fusion" trash - and drinks from a tablet.
Food was OK, service was good, nothing special but didn't care that they charge 1 dollar extra to get lemon in my water.
This is really an excellent Yakitori restaurant. I love the fact that they have a self order electronic system on your table (an iPad with the menu that you order from). You can order what you like, when you like. The food is fresh, hot, and tasty.
This is the prefect place to unwind with friends, and relax after a hard day.
TIP:
You don’t need to order everything at one time. Order a small amount at a time, and add to your order as your meal progresses. The electronic order system makes this the best way to enjoy your Yakitori!
