Best WLM Reviews

Excellent selection of yakitori and other small plates. Happy hour yakitori omakase is a great deal IMHO. Lots of luxurious seafood bites as well.
Beef tongue was good! The pork belly wasn’t as charred as I was hoping. Didn’t really understand the complimentary salad with just peeled cabbages and yuzu shoyu…server wasn’t very attentive, overall I would say the quality is less than the price tag. Good atmosphere in the restaurant.
Yakitori Hachibei used to be by far the best yakitori restaurant in Honolulu, on par with good restaurants in Japan. However, over the past year the restaurant has been going downhill. Every time I come here the menu is even more reduced. For a yakitori the only chicken items left are Momo (thigh), Mune (breast), Tsukune (meatball), and Kawa (skin). The A5 wagyu is a tiny piece (1 oz maybe) for $17.90.
1 year ago you had to book weeks in advance. Now the restaurant is half empty. Even so, now they require credit card to book, even if the booking is within 1 hour. Terrible management.
I am sorry this restaurant turned from one of the best to being on its last legs.
The staff is still amazing.
Amazing food, friendly staff, and awesome vibes! Love their sweet potato dish… and everything! And the dessert was fire. Try their omakase to get a sample of everything!
The food is fresh and every dish is crafted with care. The waiter introduced each dish and share great recommendations, which made the meal even more enjoyable.
Delicious restaurant where you can taste authentic Japanese yakitori dishes. Each dish are presented very well by the chefs. They have mastered their skills in cooking the yakitori. Every meat is cooked to perfection, while using above standard meat. Also, the side dishes such as “Local Corn Karaage” and “Cream Cheese Tofu” were splendid.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is impressive. Usually a yakitori restaurant will have a distinct smell or the room might be smoky from all the cooking. Yet, it kept a clean look from the outside to inside. They also showcase their meat they cook. The owner must be proud to showcase their fresh lineup of the day.
Although the dishes are appetizing, the restaurant is quite expensive. Even for Hawaii price standards, sadly believe the portion/taste/price ratio doesn’t match. The service wasn’t up to standards either. For an expensive restaurant you would expect quicker service or water being refilled automatically.
Overall I give this restaurant an 7.1 out of 10. The restaurant would match high end yakitori restaurant in Japan with their dishes and atmosphere. Yet the portion size and price lowers their overall score.
I've been meaning to come here for a while as I heard good things and it did not disappoint. The quality bar here is high. But that also means it takes a while for them to bring the food out. You have 90 minutes here to finish eating but it took around 45 minutes for the first order to come out. Then they ask you for the final order soon and so our whole experience felt rushed and unfinished despite lasting a while, if that makes sense.
Their food is yummy though!
Also parking here is tricky, as downtown Honolulu street parking tends to be.
Enjoy!
Super clean and elegant yakitori restaurant in Chinatown. I’m used to a place like this being more of a bar setting. This restaurant surprised me with its simple elegance. The restaurant was extremely clean. Service was fast and attentive. They are great at answering any questions without making you feel foreign. I got the omakase. This was varied, detailed, and portioned perfectly. Out of all the fantastic dishes the stand outs were the pork belly and the fried tofu. I left feeling perfectly full. Not under fed or overly stuffed. We got the additional A5 waygu which was exceptional. We also got the matcha gelato which was also incredible. Overall the biggest compliment I can give to this place is it felt like I was back in Japan, which is a rare feat here in America. Outstanding.
