I am dealing with a chronic illness. My last visit, I decided to go to the student health to receive fluids. I called beforehand to make sure they provided this service, because I would have gone to the ER instead if they did not. After waiting 3 hours to be seen by the doctor, I was told to eat crackers and drink water. I had to threaten leaving before I was given fluids. (The fluids are part of my treatment plan given my cardiologist at Ruby Memorial Hospital.) After receiving my bloodwork, it had shown I was dehydrated before having fluids. It was in incredibly frustrating to have waited 3 hours and be told to “eat some crackers”, meanwhile my bloodwork had proved I needed fluids and cardiologist had told me they are a great option when I am in a symptom flare-up. I am not sure if the physicians there have less training than at the hospital, but it was a very upsetting process to receive simple help. The staff was very rude and I would recommend just going to Ruby if you need help.
I’ve had to go here many times for many reasons, and the medical staff has always been great…but many times I’ve called ahead about needing something done and I was told I could just walk in rather than needing to schedule an appointment. Then when I get there (I have to take the PRT or Bus) I’m told “nope, you need to make an appointment” wasting my time as a student making the trip up to be told I have to come back. Erica is very pushy about needing appointments, so I don’t know if the people I’m speaking to just want to save the time of making an appointment or if they don’t want to work me in as a walk in but it’s very frustrating.
If you call and they offer a walk in, get the persons First and Last name so that you can back yourself up when you go in, or make an appointment anyways.
I was very sick a couple of weeks ago and went to the student health center. I had the same symptoms as a sinus infection I had a couple months back and shared that with doctor there. He told me it wasn’t likely and decided to do a Covid test and told me to get some over the counter Flonase and to take Tylenol… I ended up having a Tele-health meeting with my doctor and it was a sinus infection lol.
Every time I come here, all of the employees are incredibly sweet. The longest I've ever waited to go back was about 15 minutes and they're all pretty fast with exams and charting! I drive 30 minutes here instead of my local urgent care because the experience is so worth it.
I’m a WVU student and I’ve been here on two different occasions (both completely unrelated health reasons) and they just never seem to be of any help at all unfortunately. I’m unsure if this is because of their training or if they are outright apathetic because it feels like they just want you out of there as soon as possible and do their job just to scrape by. I would avoid this place if you can, it should only be a last resort option, really.
I have never experienced better care. I only waited for five minutes after checking in. The nurses that checked me in and took my bloodwork were kind and listened to what was going on. To top it off, Dr. Ben Silverberg is the most attentive doctor I have ever seen. He actively listened and gave me a game plan and backup plan. He spent the time to explain what he was going to do and why. Great care!
Parent of a student here. My son went in very sick and was diagnosed with the flu. Was told he would not get Tamiflu because he did not have any comormidities. Since when are doctors not giving out common medications that can shorten and lessen the symptoms of the flu? Is it scarce? I am 4 hours away trying to communicate with my fever delirious son. Absolutely unacceptable. Called Student Health to find out why, but they will only talk to the patient…who is so sick he can’t advocate for himself at this time. I am livid. And the person I spoke with in the phone was unbelievably rude and curt. Do better!!!
Worst experience. Went because of a sore throat and they automatically skipped to the conclusion that it was COVID. (got tested negative) I have never had a doctor as bad as the one who saw me, he acted like I was wasting his time being there. I would rather drive 6 hours to a doctor that I know than go back to this establishment. Will never be back. They are the reason I hate and do not trust the health system.
