Came here for dinner on a Friday night. Service was great and the setting was really nice. The food, however, came out subpar. The bone marrow was a very small portion for the price and overcooked, so it was mostly rendered out when it was served. It's supposed to be spreadable and it was not. The asparagus and bean sprout salad from the salad bar was oversalted to the point that it was inedible. The Lobster Mac 'n' Cheese had maybe three discernible tiny pieces of lobster. The butterfish was too sweet, the $45 Prime Rib was served under medium-rare, and the $50 Ribeye was served way over rare. We sent it back since it wasn't cooked properly, but by the time it came out the entrees had already been shared and finished, and it wasn't seasoned at all. The "greens" were lacking next to the steaks. They were wilted and cooked down, whereas we would've expected a hearty serving of freshly blanched and roasted heads of broccoli, or something equivalent. The mashed potatoes, to us, tasted like they were reconstituted... The best thing about the dinner was the whiskey--it's pretty hard to mess that up. While we applaud the effort of bringing a fine dining establishment in Hilo, way more attentiveness needs to be given if you're serving $50 steaks. Went for breakfast this morning. The view is quite nice but the restaurant has a slight odor...like stale food. Admittedly I have a very sensitive nose. As they have steak in their name I went for steak & eggs with hashbrowns. I ordered my steak med-rare+...just a bit more than med-rare. I was very disappointed in the steak...looked more like med-well to me...I told the server it looked over done to me...she replied that I asked for it a bit more than med-rare and it looked right to her. Not wanting to argue about it, I decided to just keep that steak even though she did offer to bring a new one. It was at least not dried out but the cook on it was med in some places to well done in others. The worst part was there was no seasoning on anything...the steak was just flavorless and really needed S&P in the very least. The eggs nor the hash browns had a lick of salt either. On a positive note...they did nail the cook on my eggs, and the Bloody Mary was good!
Such a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful hotel. From the street, you'd never know how amazing it is inside so make sure you give it a try! See my photos to get an idea of the inside and hotel areas. The food was top notch, very good and at a reasonable price. For two people, we paid $260 and ordered two steaks, crab legs, some apps, and had 6 drinks. Richard provided great service and we had no complaints, other than eating too much and having to walk back to our hotel. X) Make sure to try the bloody mary, and say "yes" to the bread!
This restaurant offers a set meal which includes a salad, entree, and dessert for about $80 and another $18 for a wine pairit. I got the prime rib and all I can say that I was surprised when it came out. The prime rib is a 24oz and it looked closer to a 36oz piece. This restaurant is not stingy on it's portions. If you are looking for value and generous portions you should try this place out.
We went for breakfast and dinner. We only saw our breakfast waiter when he took our order. Food and view were excellent.
Dinner service was Excellent. Everyone was attentive, but not pushy. Enjoyed the soup and salad bar. We both ordered the Rib plate, good guava bbq sc. For today’s inflation post Covid- prices were reasonable. We would go again ????
My previous review was last April. I'm back and received the same excellent service and was happy to enjoy the garden sandwich and coffee again. Teresa was my server and she made my breakfast experience just perfect. Thank you, Teresa! The staff at WSW are all so friendly.
I look forward to breakfast here everytime I visit. They always find a way to accommodate me with a window seat. The food is delicious and fresh and the staff is so friendly that I forget I'm dining alone. They all work together to make the dining experience perfect. This morning I had my usual garden sandwich and coffee and Laura and Thomas made sure I had everything I needed. Laura, thank you for sharing your stories with me as I was missing my pets too.
This was our first time dining at WSW and it definitely exceeded my expectations. My wife ordered the prime rib and I ordered the pork chop, both med rare. Meat was cooked perfectly! Our server was Lorraine and she did an excellent job with her timing of our Food and drinks. We didn't feel rushed nor were we kept waiting. The restaurant manager, Kahoku, was very hands on and checked to make sure everything was going well. We will definitely be returning with friends soon.
Absolutely wonderful! Had the full meal which included appetizer, entree, and dessert and it was well priced at $72. The service staff were so friendly and the view was lovely! Highly recommend :)
