Best WLM Reviews

November 2024 - came here before going to the Fox Theater with my wife. It's a very nice restaurant. We sat at the bar but it took almost 35 minutes to get our last good order. The sliders are ok but the chips are really good. The drinks and the steak was really good. Worth heading here if you want a great drink. The bartender we had did an amazing job. Overall, we would come back again but with a small group.
We attended Wright & Co before the hockey game on a busy Saturday night. Service and atmosphere were top notch! We found the food arrived at the perfect pace and our server checked in several times during our meal. The food was top notch for the four items we chose (gnocchi, chips, lamb shoulder & scallops) and we especially loved the lamb shoulder it was some the best lamb we’ve ever had. To walk away satisfied you would need to order side dish & protein dish with beverage this will run roughly $75/person. Only knock on the meal was the lamb & scallop portions were a bit on the smaller side I wish they had even just included a larger portion of the vegetables that accompanied the meat. I would definitely return but would likely treat it as place to drop in for a drink & snack.
This is one of our favorite spots to go to in Detroit. If you want a chic atmosphere and great menu, this is a must go to. We will come here just for the Pork sliders and Butterscotch pudding! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!
Waiter warned me that the plates are meant to be shared so probably one or maybe two would be enough. Not true. Dishes are tiny. Ahi crudo is like the equivalent of 2 pieces of sashimi of fish. And nothing was really enjoyable or good. I couldn’t even taste the fish in the ahi crudo… just salt from the foam. Looks pretty but the things on the fish didn’t add anything to it, taste good, or help highlight the fish. Everything overpowered the fish and nothing worked together. Pork belly sliders felt like they were on stale bread that was put into the microwave with some butter. Pork belly itself was just salty. No other flavors. Nothing to call home about with the texture/ cooking technique either. Mushroom pate was bland, red wine and cherry jam was interesting and could be great in the right application, the coconut schmaltz is literally just solidified coconut oil that’s been through a food processer, and sourdough it came with was rock hard which at least brought a different texture… pretty much glorified toast but wasn’t very good. Had like 1/6 of it and didn’t even bother to take the rest home. The only thing slightly interesting was the white ganache dessert. Was honestly scared it would just be overwhelmingly sweet and that would be the only flavor after th experience with the sliders but it actually had a little complexity. Not too sweet, texture and a little umami almost like taro, and the floral notes/ acidity balancing the fat and richness of white chocolate. Just really wished the twills were crunchy… instead if was like a solidified lard like texture… waitress was nice and service was speedy. I like the ambience and unpretentiousness of it which is why I gave 2 stars… otherwise the food itself would be lower. Seriously though, I’m ok with these prices and portions if there were something creative, unique combinations of flavors and techniques I would never consider on my own, or doing a really great job at highlighting the local and fresh produce… but it was really none of that… like I would prefer my own personal non professional cooking over this. To each their own.
Unique menu options with interesting flavors. Mushroom pate was a great appetizer. The gnocchi was a bit too salty, but I liked the yuzu kosho cutting through the creaminess of the dish. The sauteed scallops had strangely fun textures with the pork belly, apple, mustard seeds, etc. Overall, the place had nice vibes.
This has nothing to do with the food or the service. Both were absolutely incredible.
This has to do with management and ownership. I requested a reservation for my wife’s birthday to her favorite restaurant and she wanted to sit at the bar which is the best spot in the house. When we arrived they told us they couldn’t give us a bar spot but instead sat us at a table (which was totally fine). We just wanted to enjoy a nice night enjoying amazing food. This restaurant is very small and enjoyable most of the time except this time they allowed a company to reserve the bar ( which is the main part of the restaurant) and they were incredibly intoxicated and loud. I wish they would have told us this upfront instead of texting us 3 times to confirm our reservation at the BAR. We have a newborn child and this was our first time out. Not only was the party incredibly loud but they also had a photographer who would stop taking photos with the flash right in our face. It was honestly awful.
I understand they are running a business and need to capitalize on the holiday season, but if this is the case than my suggestion is that you either rent out the entire restaurant or open a separate part of the restaurants for events.
Everyone around us was complaining as well and it ruined the entire experience. I hate writing bad reviews but I just had to on this one. Hopefully they learn from this experience and make it more enjoyable for the future.
The atmosphere is cool. Service was good. But the food and drinks…. it was all just ehh. Portion size was incredibly small. I couldn’t believe how small. They say shareable but these plates were literally a bit per person, that’s it. The flavor was hit or miss. We got 6 plates. 2 of them were awful. 2 of them were blah. The last 2 were amazing. We got 4 drinks between the 2 of us. 2 of them were excellent. The other 2 were horrible. Not worth $18/drink.
This place was very good. We got some white wine to start which was really delicious. Then we got a few dishes to split. Everything was good, but the portion sizes were a bit small and the flavors mild. That said it was a solid meal, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was really nice too. I'd love to come back for a cocktail since it seems like they have a great menu for that.
