Love everything about this place. The outside looks like a shack. But the inside is clean and very nice to sit and have a great meal. The shrimp we had were lightly fried and so delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful in making decisions. Can’t wait for go back.
You have to appreciate a place that knows exactly what it wants to be. This isn’t the place for everyone. I had the Seafood Platter, on which everything was fried but everything was properly cooked. The fish, shrimp, scallops and oysters must have been cooked separately because they were each properly prepared. I also saw a beautiful sunset. The entrance looks like a service door, the kitchen is open and loud, and the decor is purposely haphazard. Still, it’s a great spot for seafood. I highly recommend taking the red door.
We went here for my birthday dinner last Friday. My fiance surprised me with my first trip to Charleston, and she picked this place for dinner. To be honest, when we pulled up, I was a little concerned about how great the seafood could be. Well, dont let the outside keep you away. This was by far the best fried seafood plate I've ever had. I had the triple combo platter. The best fried scallops and those fried oysters were amazing. Red rice was something I'd never had with seafood, but now I want it with every meal. Delicious boiled peanuts to start and a great slice of key lime pie for dessert. For a restaurant to be open for 3.5 hours a day, and we waited 45 minutes for a table, that speaks for itself. This place is a gem.
Great food, service and ambiance. No frills, right on the waterfront next to local seafood purveyors. They start you out with complimentary boiled peanuts which are fantastic. All food is served on paper plates, we got the seafood platter and she crab soup, it was all fantastic. Love that they serve fried seafood without french fries!
This is a nice place for dinner. The wait time was long but by the water at sunset. Nice! Service was great. I was mad about the red rice. ????I don’t mind paying for a good meal but it was a tablespoon only. If that! Don’t tease. Would I go back? Yes! It was worth it.
Our food was great & the sunset was just beautiful ???? A very unique place. Super affordable & worth a try!
When you’re in the Outer Banks, go to The Wreck. Just kidding (for those who don’t get the joke, The Wreck is a featured location in the Netflix show Outerbanks. It is actually filmed in the Charleston area and those of us in the know laugh at the geographical “mistakes.”). The Wreck is actually a Charleston area icon and well worth the visit. When you drive to it, you really don’t know what to expect. It is an unassuming building that looks like it was lost in time to hurricanes. However, it is a great restaurant and location. Right on the Shepp Creek. They have a limited menu and you corecle what you want on the paper menus. The food comes served on paper plates and no fuss. Before the food came, we got some boiled peanuts to snack on. DELICIOUS! Then the food came and we were all pleased. Shrimp for my son, scallops for my wife, and I got the deviled crab (aka crabcake). All of it is great. They all come with red rice, slaw, a large hushpuppy, and fried hominy cake. There are no substitutions so don’t ask. But why would you?! They are delicious. It’s on the above average price at around $25-$30 per person but again, well worth the visit.
My favorite restaurant anywhere. Food is the freshest best seafood in the country. Set on Shem Creek. Casual attire.
I had the seafood platter with fish, shrimp, oysters, scallopes, hushpuppies, red rice, slaw, Loma beans and a fried grit cake.
Treat yourself to a little bit of heaven.
