I have been to the ER a few times here in Wooster and every single time it has been a bad experience. I would like to share what I have been through but I’m sorry the post is so long. First time, I had severe abdominal pain and after being at the ER for multiple hours, it was discovered that I had an issue that would need surgery. They gave me IV pain meds while there but then stated that since I was no longer in pain, I could go home and see the surgeon on Monday as they already have an appointment scheduled for me. I was confused on why I was being sent home because the reason I was no longer in pain was due to them giving me pain meds and not just the pain going away on its own. Of course, the moment the meds wore off I was in intense pain again and returned to the ER. My blood work showed that things were getting a lot worse and I was then admitted that night. I believe it was my liver enzymes that were now so out of wack, I had to wait a day on a clear liquid diet to see if my levels would drop to allow me to have surgery. Once I was able to have the surgery, I was sent home with my discharge papers and informed to see the surgeon in a week to get the surgical drains removed. The hospital stated they scheduled the appointment for me. After a week passed, I go to the surgeon and was told by the front desk that missed my appointment… by that they meant I missed the first appointment that was scheduled by the hospital where I was supposed to meet the surgeon to talk about scheduling the surgery. I had to inform them that I missed it because by that point I was already admitted into the hospital and saw the doctor in person. So, this meant the hospital never scheduled my follow up appointment to get the drains removed like the discharge papers said. Well the front desk person just says okay and tells me to have a seat as if I was the one causing an issue for them. They then had me sitting and waiting in their lobby for over an hour after I had surgery, I was so uncomfortable and positioned oddly because I was in so much pain. My legs fell asleep from waiting so long and when I went to stand after they called my name, I end falling. The front desk people and a few nurses had to help me up and into a wheelchair. They told me they thought I broke my ankle because of the loud snap they heard. The first thing the doctor said to me was “I won’t be able to fix your ankle, you need to go to the ER”. I didn’t even tell her to look at my ankle! I was already irritated by this entire experience and wanted out of there. I ended up going to the ER the next day because I couldn’t walk. I was told I had a severe sprain.
Second time, I had surgery at a different hospital that was an hour away. I started to experience issues in the middle of the night and called my surgeon, she told me to go to my local ER. I went to the ER here in town letting them know that I thought something was wrong. They did some scans and could visibly see that I had a bowel obstruction due to internal bleeding from an issue with the surgery. They sent me home and did nothing for me. I was contacted by my surgeons assistant the next morning and I told them what happened. They asked me if I could come back to their hospital where I was admitted for 3+ days where they monitored me to determine if they needed to do exploratory surgery to see where I was bleeding from. Thankfully the obstruction passed and the bleeding eventually stopped on its own but I needed a blood transfusion due to the blood loss.
Third time, I was feeling unwell so I go to the ER and everyone there just gave off the vibe that what I was experiencing didn’t seem that serious. They didn’t even hook me up to an IV. After waiting around, the doctor shows up. He seems confused too on why I’m there and says something along the lines of “if it will put your mind at ease we can do bloodwork”. The results indicated my kidneys were not functioning correctly at all. I was then admitted into the hospital for over 2weeks where they thought I was going to have to go on dialysis.
Staff always helpful from the front desk to everyone in general. It reminds me of the services we all miss so much, kind, helpful and the pre surgery you've got your own little room, much less stressful then the ward with 10 other people at some places. Not to mention the life saving care i received in 2023. ????
I recently had minor surgery at Wooster Community Hospital. Dr. Eric Turney was the surgeon and Dr. Ben Weeman was the anesthesiologist. I was highly impressed with the entire procedure, from check-in to pre-op to the surgery to recovery to post-op and check-out. Everyone involved was highly professional and very concerned for my welfare and comfort. My wife was waiting and they kept her informed from start to finish. Outstanding.
I have used Wooster Community Hospital many times. Thay have always been very professional and genuinely friendly.
Recently I needed surgery to correct a corroded artery, and was a bit concerned about the procedure.
Just having the great etiquette that they do was comforting.
Procedure was you could say "text book perfect" and I am so glad to have them here for myself and my family.
Thank you so much for everything.
I highly recommend my surgeon, Dr Moss, of The Foot & Ankle Center of Ohio, he did an amazing job! A special thank you to Dr Pierce and all the amazing nurses and aids who cared for me and was so attentive to all my needs. The entire WCH team went above and beyond to make my stay here as comfortable as possible. 5 Star Care!
I have had five surgeries since 2009 and all were done at WCH. The quality of services, compassionate caregivers and the cleanliness of its facilities are nothing short of amazing. My wife currently receives treatments at the James infusion center and the nurses and doctors are excellent. We are very grateful that we can receive this treatment in Wooster and not have to drive somewhere else.
I had fallen off a ladder and went to Wooster community Hospital with a Broken arm an injury to my hip Bad enough that I could not walk in they took me straight back to the ER. I was there over an hour before they gave me anything for pain. They put my fingers and his figure traps thing hoping I guess to reset my arm, but we kept telling them that I couldn’t do it that the pain was too much. They didn’t care the doctor treat me like I’m stupid, and kept arguing with my wife Everything was said and done my arm bones and my left arm was shattered at the wrist, but their x-rays didn’t show that they were fuzzy and unreadable and from what they said I had a fractured hip. I had to get surgery for my arm and the surgeons x-rays clearly showed, the end of my arm bone being shattered or the hospitals they didn’t know if I needed surgery or not On top of that they would not allow me to leave the hospital unless I could walk on a walker mind you they said I had a fractured pelvis and I have a shattered arm, so why would anyone with any common sense? Say you’re smart for me to leave on a walker
Dr Berry is probably one of the worst doctors I have met. I come from the healthcare field myself and the way he treats his patients is horrible. One of my friends went in for back pain and I went with her. They took her back to X-ray first and while she was at X-ray I clearly heard Dr Berry say that “he had to get rid of this patient first( talking about my friend) and then they could start with pictures for the office“, him and his associates giggled. When he came in the room he was very rude and acted like we were wasting his time, and treated my friend like she was stupid. I would NEVER treat a patient like that no matter where they are coming from. If you are in healthcare for the money and the show don’t even attempt trying because you are doing it for the wrong reason. To say that I was very disappointed is an understatement. Don’t go to Dr Berry!
