We had an amazing family meal at Woodyard Grill last Friday afternoon. Went in about 4pm with my kids ages 10 and 12. We started off with an appetizer of jalapeño poppers which came out quickly and nice and hot. 10 year old got the hot honey garlic boneless wings, which he loved. 12 year old got the fried fish sandwich which she loved as well. I got the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and Mac n cheese. Everything came out in perfect timing, was hot and cooked just right. My steak and mashed potatoes had plenty of gravy so I didn't have to ask for extra. Mac and cheese was obviously home made and delicious. The waitress was quick and attentive and gave my kids several refills on their lemonades and even a top off with a plastic lid to go right before we left. We got banana pudding to go and it was perfect way to end a delicious meal.
Thank you Woodyard Grill for a great memory!
Very good food and super polite staff.
Enjoy visiting for some barbecue on occasion. I love the outdoor art and heaters as you approach the door, and like that, you have the option to eat outside. The food this past visit on Saturday was okay in part. It seems like the sweet tea brand may have been changed. It tasted a bit off. My food, sliced BBQ pork was yummy, and I enjoyed my fries - they have great thick cut semi curl fries. However, my sisters food wasn't really edible. She ordered the white meat chicken, the blackened broccoli, and a baked potato. The baked potato appeared to be a day-old potato. It was scary and had a terrible taste. One bite was all it took. We reported to the waitress and she offered to replace it. The next choice was fried okra. It looked good, but it was like rubber in texture and became chewy as it cooled. So she didn't eat that either. Think maybe it was microwaved. They forgot the corn bread (we didn't mention). The chicken was super dried out like it was over the hold time, so she did pick at that some with sauce because she needed to eat something. Her main eat was the blackened broccoli. She reported it was good but had been changed. Apparently, it used to actually be blackened on the grill, but this time, it appeared to have a blackening season with no heat added. So, really, just raw seasoning for the taste. The friendly waitress came by to check and asked how everything was. We explained the situation, which was evident by remaining food on the plate. She apologized and returned with the check. I was shocked, based on the return of the potato, followed by the uneaten replacement okra, and picked chicken that no discount was offered.
I'm sad because while I enjoyed my meal, my sister didn't and left hungry. So tonight, while out with my boyfriend, we chose somewhere different after the experience. Woodyard is usually one of our go-to places while eating when in town. I think we will give Woodyard a rest for a while. Maybe try it again in a couple of months to see if things can get worked out in the kitchen. I really enjoy their BBQ, but all the food in an order needs to be of acceptable quality and cook.
I also skipped the to-go order I had originally decided on due to the chicken meal. I didn't want you to take a chance on ordering food for another, and it possibly be unacceptable
Food is almost always good. Great job with the decor. Service is usually hit or miss. Sometimes it's great sometimes and could use increment.
Well I just moved to Newberry about a month ago. I have ate at Woodyard BBQ once a week and I must say it is excellent food atmosphere and service. Great place to watch college football on Saturday. You gotta try the blackened broccoli it is excellent if you like blackened food. I like to tell them to put extra blackening seasoning on there. Go eat there you won't regret it. Love their take home cups that your drink is served in.
I've had 4 meals there so far and very few times in my life has a place been Outstanding on each visit. Every item ordered has exceeded expectations, and the service and pricing makes it even better.
This is a required stopping place when near Newberry to eat at.
Food is always pretty decent but be prepared to pay. Keeps us away a lot of time because of price but when we do go the food tends to be very good.
I stopped in for a quick snack and was left underwhelmed and disappointed. I only got a half rack of ribs and was given a small cold end piece. Meat was room temp but bones were cold. They did offer to give me more, but I respectfully declined. No plans to return anytime soon.
