Best WLM Reviews

Went to this place for the first time and I’m saddened because the atmosphere is amazing, however the food and pitiful Bloody Mary we purchased were disappointing! Our friends met us and did say they had some other foods on the menu that were pretty good, so I am willing to give them another shot. Oh and my husband and our friend purchased a makers on the rocks where the glass was full of ice and a dash of makers, which they were not happy with. And be weary of that Bloody Mary because it was truly horrible!
This was my second time trying this restaurant. It was very crowded and extremely noisy. We were seated very quickly for a Saturday afternoon. I tried the Cajun Burger and the Cajun Fries this time. The Cajun Seasoning was not overwhelming. The fries were room temperature upon arrival but still had a good flavor. My companion and I enjoyed them. The burger was good but no more so than any other cheeseburger. My companion had the fish taco and wings. The taco was plentiful and good. The wings could have been cooked a little longer because they were chewy.
We were truly excited to try yet another Short Pump restaurant, and when I looked at the menu online, I was tempted! So, we headed over to Wood & Iron in Short Pump for the first time, for my birthday.
The hosts greeted us warmly and promptly, and after a moment, took us to an outdoor table, as we had requested. However, the awning was not rolled out, and we were in direct sunlight, so we requested to come back inside.
Our first server was amazing! She was so friendly, cheerful, funny, and attentive. Sadly, we lost her, when we were moved indoors to the bar section.
While we weren't at an angle to watch any of the TVs easily, we appreciated that they were all over the place. It was darker inside, which was needed for viewing.
Next, we were greeted by another server, who took our drink orders, dutifully requesting I.D. It was exciting to order an Orange Crush, as the sun was beating down, and a refreshing citrus beverage sounded perfect.
My husband ordered a crisp Bold Rock Cider, local to Virginia.
This new-to-us server was very businesslike and not very personable. After he took our orders, we waited for what felt like an awfully long time for our appetizer of hush puppies to arrive. It was well past 1pm and the lunch rush had died down; most tables around us were finishing eating.
Instead of checking on us, and how we enjoyed our drinks, he came over to us while we were waiting for our appetizer, and asked us, "Would you like me to order your food?" We weren't sure if he was serious (it turns out that my husband thought he was), so we both replied, "Yes."
However, we had missed the joke, and soon our hush puppies arrived. They were good - crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside, but a little dry, so the honey butter was definitely appreciated.
Yet another long amount of time passed, with no communication from our server, and finally he brought us our bacon cheeseburgers. These burgers were good - they were juicy, had good flavor, and were dressed nicely with lettuce, tomato, and pickle, and a side of fries.
Our server never came back to ask us if we needed anything else, and didn't ask us once if we enjoyed the food. What I had time to notice was that he was ignoring all his tables, not just us. He never offered us dessert. We had to ask for the check.
With so many excellent choices in Short Pump, we're more likely to try another new-to-us establishment before returning here for a second chance.
Parking was ample, even though there are other stores around. The restrooms were unremarkable.
Good food. Simple. Hey those chicken tenders are huge and seasoned well. 4.5 stars. My son enjoyed the flat iron steak and cheese. Good environment.
The food is always quality and spot on at wood and iron. I really recommend the grilled and smoked wings. Shout out to Daniel the waiter. We informed him we had to put our dog down this afternoon and he brought us a free dessert in honor of her. Highly recommend him and paying a visit to this restaurant.
Love this place! We went on a Friday afternoon for a graduation in the family. We had a party of 9 and were seated within a few minutes.
Our server was very friendly and attentive, although we could tell she was pretty busy. The table loved the fried pickles- we got two.
I’m vegan and I didn’t want a burger, so we modified their salad to remove the cheese. Their salads are huge! I had a lot of leftovers.
They had a happy hour that started during our lunch which encouraged some adults to order another drink.
One burger was slightly incorrect (not the server’s fault- but they did remedy this) and another salad had a piece of plastic. The manager came over to make sure we were all okay and got a new salad.
It can be tough with larger groups, and there were a lot of them that day. We’ll definitely be back!
Wow! This place has got really good food! Service can use some work but food is good. Be ware, portion sizes are massive! Ordered a kids meal and it was 2 huge chicken thighs and a large portion of fries! More than most kids could eat. Super good! Server told us “she got us” although we had to ask for napkins and plates. Didn’t check on us much either. Overall, food was good! Portions are large, order less than you think!
Our server was very nice, friendly and attentive. Inside of the place was like a square with a bunch of TV's and a little on the loud size cause of the shape. Food was ok, typical type bar food but the prices were a tad high for us. Had a smokehouse burger and smoked wings. Buffalo sauce for the wings was bland and the wings were ok, a little smokey tatse but not a a lot of flavor. The burger bbq sauce was very good but was undercooked a bit. All in all the meal was fine, not a place for dinner in my opinion but a good place for lunch or to hang with friends for some drinks.
