Best WLM Reviews
I’m giving a 4 star because the nursing staff was great with my daughter in labor, however the receptionist was pretty rude to my other daughter and I who happened to be having a miscarriage at the same time my other daughter was in labor. We wanted to go to triage and she wanted to know why she needed triage and who told us to go there! It’s not her business for any of that, the nurse said my daughter needed to. The receptionist acted like we were lying, her tone with us was just outright rude! Not friendly at all!
Just wanted to try and help ease the nerves of a fellow woman who might be sifting through the reviews- trying to come to a conclusion on the best place to deliver your baby- anxious about making the right choice!
I went to Women & Babies through May Grant for my first baby girl in October and it was the most AMAZING experience. I thought I would deliver early, and instead ended up being 2 weeks late and induced (home girl didn’t want to leave ????). But, they made it the most enjoyable experience possible and truly made me feel empowered and encouraged to get the job done. We were truly surprised by how much they valued our wishes and wanted us to have the birth experience that we wanted to have.
Child birth can be a scary thought- especially because of all the fear of the unknown. But, you are strong and capable and YOU CAN DO IT! The nurses and doctors here are experienced, warm, kind, attentive, and extremely caring. They know exactly what to do and inform you of what’s going on the entire time. We were blown away at the excellence of the staff! They made me feel totally at ease and took care of me, my baby, and my husband so well. I honestly felt loved & like I was in the safest place to deliver my baby girl- so thank you, Women & Babies, for this awesome & unforgettable experience! We’ll be back when we add more. ????
Also, if you deliver here, you HAVE to try the peanut butter pie… you’re welcome. ????
Only reason i'm giving them a second star is because they actually did amazing when i gave birth here. i just called them to see about having my birth control removed since i had it placed there and they keep telling me to call an OB that i don't have and the person i talked to said she works for penn medicine but she doesn't which makes absolutely zero sense. two other places told me to call here and she left me on hold just to call the first place that told me to call women and babies. that was all after i was transferred twice because no one apparently could figure out why i was calling even though i clearly said i'd like to have my birth control removed.
I’ve had multiple births here and could not imagine doing them anywhere else. The nurses, midwives, aids, doctors, dining staff, housekeepers, and everyone else all took very good care of my and my baby around the clock after delivery, and during delivery I received prompt and expert care. My epidurals were quick to arrive upon request and well executed; I did not have nasty side effects but great pain management. The whole experience was so smooth the first time that I was not fearful or dreading the next labor, praise God. The food is also very good at this hospital, and they have 24/7 food available in a fridge if you miss the kitchen cutoff for the night. The nursery was also a great resource to get some extra rest after delivery before we went home to settle into normal life. 10/10 stars, would recommend this hospital to anyone giving birth!
My wife and I had our baby boy here and I just want to express how thankful I am for the staff here at women’s & babies. The nurses, the doctors, everyone was so kind and respectful. They took such good care of us throughout the whole process. Huge shoutout to Eden & Chandler, our labor and delivery nurses. They were amazing. Our Anesthesiologist, don’t remember his name but he was amazing. The c-section doctor was amazing at what she does. Absolutely an amazing experience. Karen, in couplet care was the most caring and knowledgeable nurse. Although we had a very stressful and long labor process and the touch decision of having a c section I’m so happy that it all happened here. Thank you so much to all the staff here at women’s & babies. Highly recommended this place!!
Terrible delivery service. in all seriousness the birth experience was not good.
there was 4 attempts at an iv.
emphasis on incredibly non supportive of a natural birth almost pushing for an epidural. i was told they would provide natural coping mechanisms for pain such as a yoga ball, bathtub, shower, etc. i called 3 hours before birth to confirm and nothing was provided. if i knew that i literally would’ve packed up my yoga ball in the car. if you think it doesn’t help “that much” it did for the first 6cm. resorted to bouncing on the ground on my knees off the side of the bed as the nurse ignored my requests.
walked in at 2:30am gave birth at 5:30am, anytime i asked for anything they were too busy checking me in all 3 hours.
neglected to give me anti nausea medication until 4:15am that was after throwing up and dry heaving around 10+ times starting at 2am.
i called when i left at 2am and called at 2:15am got there at 2:30 am at 6cm dilated but they were not prepared at all thinking i was not dilated enough until i told them to check.
ended up getting an epidural at 10 cm when my baby was on his way out with my water breaking during the process
The doctor and nurses were gossiping about my wife because she doesn't handle pain well. The doctor named Jennifer literally complained because as she put it, "you should have no problem with pain after 5 kids." Newsflash you ignorant jerk it hurts every time! Labor doesn't get easier with each pregnancy thats a lie, our 5th pregnancy was the worst it took 10 months to recover and our 2nd almost died and now here having our 6th she almost had to be rushed in for a c-section so no not every pregnancy gets easier and the pain is always the same you IDIOT! We were also lied to during appointments we were told they can take the baby to the nursery so we can rest after the delivery but after my wife gave birth I wasn't there because I had to be with our other children and get them to school so she asked the nurse for help and was told they think it's best for the baby to stay with the moms (Where was the help?) She tried her best to rest during those few hours i wasn't there but the nurses proceeded to wake her up every time she tried to nap. I don't appreciate my wife being vulnerable with careless airheads around her. The one nurse who actually talked to my wife spoke of her own pregnancy and left after she was done talking about how excited she was, well good for you but pay attention to your patients and their newborns she almost forgot to give my wife her medication. Be more considerate, respectful and honest. The only nice thing I will say is my wife said Carrie Hossler was patient and did a great job with the delivery so thank you Carrie and the 2 nurses who helped my wife deliver.
When I moved to Pennsylvania I was in my first trimester, when choosing a doctor I made sure I chose one that was affiliated with women’s and babies due to how much positive feedback I had heard about this hospital. I’m fully aware that everyone’s situation is different but I was at a loss of words when it came to how shockingly horrible this hospital and my delivery experience was. I had a C-section - from the moment I changed into my gown and entered into the operating room the medical staff was excellent. Very social, helped calm my nerves, they were in good spirits and all around wonderful. The moment I gave birth and went from the recovery room into my hospital room is when my experience went down hill.
I am most likely wrong on the terminology but every shift there was a nurses aid and a nurse, it felt like every 5-6 hours we got a new pair of nurses. It was very rare that the nurses were friendly, knowledgeable or even willing to help, I would say the night nurses were the friendliest. We weren’t offered much help during our stay and recovery, I would ask a question in regards to my health or my baby to which we would get a response of, “I am not sure I will have to check”, but we would never recieve an answer. Pretty much ANYTIME we asked a question we NEVER got an answer because it would always be, “let me check for you.” Or “I am not sure let me ask your nurse.” Or “did the nurse on the other shift not explain that?” Or “I can ask and get back to you.” This lasted the duration of our stay so it wasn’t just one specific nurse, it was practically every nurse.
It was extremely frustrating when I DID ask for help from the nurses as well. I would call and ask for a water refill or juice, or my partner would ask for me or we would even ask when a nurse was present in our room for a water refill and it typically took 45mins if not longer to get water or juice. Some of the nurses would come in and ask ME if I remembered when the last time I had my medication because the last nurse didn’t chart it or my favorite - “do you feel like you need to take your medication?” Obviously my medication schedule was not my top priority after having my stomach cut open and having my baby and obviously I would like my medication!
It was mentioned to us several times that I could ask for my baby to be taken to the nursery so my partner and I could get some sleep and my baby could stay there for as long as I needed since he was taking a bottle at the time and all I needed to do was call the nurse to bring him back when I was ready.
This is my most memorable part of my stay: we were beyond exhausted in the middle of the night, I had finally gave in and asked if my baby could be taken to the nursery, I mentioned that he needed to be fed as well. The nurse said, “ok well why don’t you feed him, change him, then call for me and I will bring him to the nursery.” Which, I was VERY frustrated because I needed to sleep and that was the whole reason in asking was to recieve help feeding and changing my baby! So 30-40min later after I fed my baby and changed him, I called the nurse to take him to the nursery. Roughly 35min passed and a nurse came to get our baby. My partner and I crashed and when I say 30min later, I mean 30min later a nurse wheels our son back into our room and says, “ok momma he’s looking good, he ate a little and I changed his diaper!” We were in SUCH shock at what the heck just happened, we talk about it to this day because we have zero clue what happened. Where was the miscommunication, where did our son actually go, what did they actually do with our son. What the heck happened! After that situation we were ready to go home. We wanted to be left alone and in our own home, so I asked to leave the next morning and we left by the afternoon.
If I had to say anything positive, it would be that your trash and sheets get chaged daily, however they do not switch your towels - at least mine didn’t but I did have my own towels, and the ladies that delivered my food every day were nicer then the nurses.
