A must visit on every trip to Mobile AL. The gumbo is the reason we come. We were seated quickly and our waiter Jose was very attentive throughout our meal. We started with beer and wine with fried green tomatos, that were hot, very tasty, and fried perfectly. We then each had a bowl of gumbo for our meal with a side of fried okra and hush puppies. A very tasty meal indeed. We finished up with a slice of key lime pie. We will return on our next trip. Plenty of parking across the street. This is an eclectic looking place with friendly people. A must visit while in the area.
Stumbled across this gem while looking for a different restaurant. Of course we are never going to say no to seafood. We had fried fish, shrimp and oysters , coleslaw, grilled red fish and gumbo.
The food was amazing! Hot, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We enjoyed reading all the funny signs and our server, Mrs Pinky was the sweetest!! She told us that this is the original location and have been serving this community since 1938!! 86 years!! It's easy to see why they are a success. Put this one on your list to stop and try when in Mobile, Al.
Big fan all around -- menu, food, service and atmosphere. Went for lunch on a weekday. They have a streamlined lunch menu. The rice, beans, sausage and chicken dish was great. Another had shrimp on a stick, and another had a fried oyster po'boy. Great sides. Kept our drinks full. Winner!
Are you an oyster lover totally stuck within the decision to choose between all of the available options? I would choose the Bienville oysters that are covered with shrimp, crabmeat and a creamy parmesan sauce. Also, I would definitely choose to dine in. I believe the place makes a good atmosphere for a business luncheon or time to catch up with an old friend. It was perfect for an intimate luncheon with my daughter. We enjoyed hearing the sounds of laughter occasionally. Otherwise, the customers weren't unusually loud. I'm sure the place is different when the nightlife is boisterous. It just may be an excellent place to begin when exploring Dauphin St.
Fast, friendly service. I wish I could remember our server’s name. She had a great recommendation of ordering the Mahi salad. So delicious. We also shared the chargrilled oysters. They were nicely seasoned and a good portion. We had a great evening.
This is an experience you’ll never forget! The food, service, and atmosphere are phenomenal.
We tried oysters for the first time- the oyster sampler- and found the flavors to be well developed and quite delicious. We also tried the fried pickles (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️), shrimp sampler (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️), and the Cajun seafood pasta (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️).
The restaurant has funny, uplifting, and thought- provoking quotes plastered over every inch of the walls. This makes for easy and light meal conversation. My 10 year old daughter was laughing and reading the whole meal.
We highly recommend!!
Dropped by here for lunch. The restaurant’s food and service are really good. I ordered a Jo seafood platter filled with scallops, shrimps, oysters, and crab which is a lot for me lol. Their waitress was friendly and passionated for the service.
My husband is pretty happy with this resto. He loved the fried catfish and was the best he’s had in a long time having been a Louisiana native. Our server Amanda has been very professional yet warm and helpful. On top of that, she was always watching us as she attended to our needs like refilling our drinks perfectly on time or asking us if we needed anything else. Overall, our small family was very happy that we came here and thankful for people that posted pictures of their foods which enticed us to try to come here when we visited Mobile.
