A Wingman's Paradise
The Winking Lizard Tavern in Canton is more than just a sports bar; it's a culinary and atmospheric experience. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a lively ambiance of sports memorabilia, dark wood accents, and the friendly chatter of patrons. The perfect blend of casual comfort and energetic excitement sets the stage for a memorable outing.
But the real star of the show is the food. Their wings are legendary, with a crispy exterior and juicy interior that practically melts in your mouth. The variety of sauces is impressive, ranging from classic buffalo to daring experimental flavors. Beyond wings, the menu boasts a satisfying selection of burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers, each crafted with care and flavor.
Service at the Winking Lizard is another highlight. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Whether you're catching a game with friends or enjoying a relaxed dinner, the atmosphere and service combine to create a truly enjoyable dining experience. Tremendous drink menu can never forget that !
Driving around at lunchtime and interested in old standbys, we see that lizard winking at us, so how can we resist?
Yeah, I know it's a chain of spots bars and are all basically the same, but it fit our mood.
Place was not busy so we were taken to a table right away. Server came on our heels and was very attentive throughout the meal including noticing a kitchen mistake after our food was delivered.
Food was decent and the music was not too loud so we could actually talk while dining. All good.
The Winking Lizard is a Canton / Northeast Ohio staple. I have been frequenting this local restaurant since high school when wing Wednesdays were .20¢ / wing.
The variety of sauces and spices will take some time to work through and that journey is well worth it. The burgers are consistently good too and their salad offerings on the menu are better than a typical selection at most other restaurants in the area.
There are plenty of TVs and a helpful staff that can accommodate flipping on most sporting events you want to watch. The atmosphere on big game days is electric.
I recommend as a regular spot to any locals and as a “must try” to any visitors to Canton, OH.
Haven't been here in years. Met my daughter here for dinner. Had a great time, and food and service was amazing! We had loaded beef nachos, huge plate to share. Had a bacon cheeseburger and my daughter had buffalo chicken wrap. Both was top notch! Can't wait to come back!
Cool little off the beaten path bar/grill. The beer selection is vast, the menu selection should fit everyone's desires. Had the beer battered haddock. Great breading, good roll. Tarter sauce was great. Fries are steak fries, not to keen on thicker cut fries. Pretzel sticks and sauces were outstanding.
Had a terrible interaction with their closing manager on the night of September 20, 2024. A loved one had lost their phone and hadn’t realized until we were very far away. We called and she basically rushed us off the phone. The second time I called (once we finally were able to confirm that said missing phone was inside or very close to the front door of the building via location sharing) she got really nasty with us. Kept getting sarcastic saying things such as “This is totally what I want to be doing right now” and “This really isn’t my job”. I was nothing but kind to her on the phone. Kept thanking her for checking at first and apologizing for the inconvenience multiple times.
I am never one to get upset with a service worker, as I also work in the service industry and understand the BS we have to deal with on a daily basis, but I have NEVER spoken to a customer the way she spoke to me. I had to hand the phone off to someone else because she was being so rude and I couldn’t handle it in the high stress situation.
We were finally able to get back to the location after 1 am and luckily found it by the front door of the location. I know, I know, it isn’t her job to keep track of our things. We get that, it was just the way we were spoken to and treated when we were being nothing but nice to her during the phone call until she started to be rude and insulting.
ALSO let me just add that we weren’t asking her to search for the phone until it was found. Because of the kind of phone it was (not an iPhone), we were able to play a sound no matter how far away we were. All we wanted to know was if she heard the sound. Then we would know whether it was inside the store or outside. If it was inside, great! We would come make the trip the following day and everyone’s mind would be at ease for the night. If she heard it outside or anything similar to that we would have said thank you and we would come search the parking lot and she could go on her merry way. We never wanted HER or any other team member to actually physically search the parking lot, just poke an ear out and let us know if she heard a little jingle. She just kept saying that she wasn’t doing that because it wasn’t her problem to solve. We didn’t need you to fully solve our problem, it’s our problem, we just wanted some grace.
I will say that our server while we were actually eating at the restaurant was so nice, but someone needs to tell this girl how a manager is actually supposed to speak to a customer. This experience really put a bad taste in our mouth and we will never be returning.
Great place for happy hour and dinner with the family. Service is always a plus and staff is always friendly. I enjoy coming here for a quick dinner and beer to watch a game or have a drink with friends as well. Haddock dinner on a Friday during Lent was delicious!
Honestly, I'm not sure I can rate this place effectively because I didn't get any of my food warm enough to know if it was good. Our waitress must be new or divided between two sections that are miles apart because I seen her maybe 4 times and had to get another waitress to help us or we'd probably still be sitting there. I'll give this place another shot because there's free popcorn and an arcade with numerous big screens for game day.
