Best WLM Reviews
I recently stayed at the Wingate by Wyndham Greenville Airport in South Carolina for 2 nights and I would NOT recommend staying here. While the property itself was decent and several restaurants nearby, i stayed in a king room that was mostly fine with no issues despite a running toilet, my main issue lies with being charged $250.00 for an incidental hold—and two months later, I STILL haven’t received my money back.
I booked my stay through Booking.com and prepaid $185.13 for two nights using a debit card. Upon arrival at the hotel, I provided a different credit card for the incidental deposit. I checked in on Friday 10/4/24 and I was informed by the front desk attendant that a $50.00 hold would be placed on my card for incidentals. I signed a document agreeing to this, which should be on file with the hotel.
I checked out on Sunday, October 6, at around 10:20 AM. The front desk assured me that everything was in order and that a receipt would be emailed to me. Trusting their protocol, I didn’t question this exchange. However, on Monday, October 7, I reviewed my credit card account and discovered that the $50.00 hold had increased to $250.00.
Upon further review, I noticed a small disclaimer on Booking.com stating that a $200.00 charge would be required upon arrival. This was confusing as the hotel did not communicate that amount to me. While I understand this policy, the front desk attendant failed to inform me at check-in. Their staff should be properly trained on what their policies are and should clearly communicate that to hotel guests. Frustrated, I contacted the hotel on the afternoon of Monday, October 7, to address the miscellaneous charge. The receptionist I spoke with was unhelpful, and repeatedly spoke over my concerns. She implied that the extra charge might be related to Booking.com, which is impossible, as the credit card I provided during check-in was used exclusively with Wingate and insinuated that i just wanted to argue. It is THEIR responsibility to address concerns and following that exchange its blatantly obvious that some of their staff lacks professionalism and basic customer service skills.
To date, I have not received the refund or satisfactory resolution for this issue. This lack of communication and transparency has left me disappointed in my experience with Wingate by Wyndham. Booking.com is finally investigating the charge but alleging Wingate is unresponsive. I sent several emails to both parties on several occasions to try to resolve this and its still an ongoing issue. I would save yourself the headache and book somewhere that you can trust to not take advantage of you.
I was happy with my stay! I arrived late and felt so safe here! I was worried about the hotel from some negative reviews. But I had no issues, check in was fast and breakfast was good. Our room looked very clean, beds were comfortable and AC was powerful! The deluxe king room had plenty of space.
The shower had a unique rotating shower head and Dove soaps! They make up any areas in the room that need renovation by adding better amenities. I loved the brightly lit mirrors too!
I like this hotel but they have a cleaning crew and housekeeping that make you feel like you have asked for their first born when trying to get towels and linens. The staff at the front desk are great and everything else about the place was great but I've never had this experience when asking for clean towels. You would think that housekeeping is giving you towels from their closets from home. I got my own towels and washed them after a couple of days. It just wasn't worth asking then being turned down for clean towels. Otherwise, nice hotel. I recommend the hotel but consider bringing your own towels, wash clothes and hand towels.
Room was excellent! Comfortable, clean, quiet, and felt secure. Breakfast was good!
My only problem was with customer service from front desk staff. When I checked in there were two people in front of me and I waited about 15 minutes for them to check in. When my turn came up the front desk clerk rudely popped a sign on the desk indicating helping another guest, and simply walked away. No explanation or indication on how long until I could expect return, nothing.
I can understand if they are short-staffed and she was trying to juggle multiple things, but a simple explanation or timeframe would have been nice. Maybe a little 'Thanks for your patience' or something similar, but she just rudely put the sign up and walked away. A little kindness goes a long way.
Would have given them a 5/5 otherwise except for that incident.
I would suggest looking at other options in the area based on this experience.
We were really excited because the hotel had pretty good reviews. However, we were quickly turned off by the rudeness of the staff. We waited for half an hour before a front staff member showed up to the lobby and then were told to continue to wait as she was "too busy to assist." When we got to the room, we liked how spacious it was. However, we had requested 2 queens as we were traveling with our 2 youngsters and we're given a king with a pullout. That wasn't too bad, it was definitely compromisable; though they didn't provide sheets for the pullout couch nor enough towels for my family (only gave two). Whenever we would mention things that were lacking or requested things they should have provided in the first place, we were treated as if we were an inconvenience. Definitely would not go back.
We had power and hot water during the hurricane! Beds were comfortable and everything was clean. The only complaint we had was not the hotels fault. The hallway to the lobby had a heavy smell of Marijuana. We had to walk through it to get to the elevator.
I checked in at 4:45 with my two young teen girls. The lobby was dark, no lights on except the check in desk. It was creepy. The man working the counter took some time to get off his cell phone before asking for my drivers license to check us in. No hello, or welcome. He did not greet us or welcome us and it was not inviting at all. The check out process was just as cozy. A fish bowl was on the counter with a paper note asking you to leave your room card in the bowl. There were two employees out front smoking when we walked out, not sure if they were front desk? Do not expect customer service when staying here. The beds are decent, just not the human interaction.
Its a good to place to stay for a weekend trip. The hotel lobby was clean. Check in was a breeze. The bed was comfortable, the ac worked The breakfast was as expected. Wifi was slow but it worked. The issue we had was the toilet was backed up
The light over the bed didn't work and the desk light had a glitch. The hallways and elevators to the rooms could've been cleaner and there was a hole barely patched where vending machine is in the second floor.
