Best WLM Reviews

Willamette has been such a great place to have my dental care over the years. I am grateful for Dr Shin, Rose, and the whole team. I really feel cared for and I'm grateful to have them.
I just want to say the dentists and hygienists were great this review pertains to the front office staff/scheduling staff.
I have two small kids ages 2 & 4. I scheduled them their very first appointment for the morning (one right after the other so I didn’t have to go back and forth). One week prior to the appointments I was called by the office and the staff requested if I could possibly change my kids appointments due to staffing challenges. I said that would be fine and I rescheduled both of my kids for mid afternoon after their naps.
The day of the appointment this office calls me and says they can’t accommodate both my kids in the afternoon slot and that one of their appointments needed to be moved up one hour. This was the same day (approximately 1.5 hours before the proposed new appointment time) and my partner and I had already made arrangements so that both of us could go to the office and sit with one kid while the other adult accompanied the other child back to the exam room for their appointment.
I asked if it was possible to move both their appointments for later in the day but was told there was no availability. I was offered to change my other child’s appointment time to 30 minutes after the firsts child’s appointment but was unable to do so because my partner had a work meeting scheduled at that time. I can’t just leave one of my kids in the waiting room with no adult with them. I also didn’t want to supervise one child in the tiny exam room while the other child was getting their teeth cleaned.
So because my partner works from home I was able to drive one child to the appointment while the other stayed home. I then finished the appointment just to go home to drop off one child while picking up the other to take them to their appointment one hour later. This was so incredibly frustrating and not to mention my small children who need naps did not get them because of this dentist office’s lack of proper scheduling.
Open enrollment is coming up and this experience has me seriously considering changing our dental coverage so I never have to deal with any more scheduling nightmares such as this one. My kids had a positive experience with the dentists and hygienists but if the scheduling staff can’t figure out how to do their jobs effectively then I’m done with this office.
I had a tooth extraction in Tumwater and a week later I still had so much pain. I was scared something was medically going on, and I was able to get an appointment in Tacoma. I went and the dental assistant was incredibly nice, but when I saw the dentist (Dr. Shim) he said everything looked like it was healing properly, he treated me like I was there for the pain pills. I felt so humiliated and disrespected. I never picked up the painkillers because that wasn’t why I went and because I don’t take narcotics. I called the office to let them know I wasn’t picking up the painkillers at the pharmacy.
You wonder why people won’t go get help, why so many are dying. It’s because of discrimination. He assumed I was a pill popper, instead of explaining that there are other reasons why I could be having pain, or just tell me he doesn’t know. This is unacceptable and it’s incredibly sad.
The lady that does the deep cleaning isn't very nice. She shamed me for still having food in between my teeth from lunch and next time to clean my teeth before I come in. I don't have time after work to do such things because I rushed over for my appointment after work. I was confused because isn't she the tooth cleaning lady. They told me the deep cleaning would alleviate the cold sensitive pain I was dealing with for some time. But after I'm paid hundreds of dollars for the cleaning I still was having pain. Then they said it was because I had a receding gum line was the cause of the pain and I don't take very good care of my teeth. Again the shaming. I wouldn't have paid all that money for a deep cleaning if I knew that it wouldn't help because I live check to check and work hard for every dollar. I would just do the regular cleaning that insurance covers. This is the Tacoma office and maybe it's better at a different office. Or maybe the deep cleaning lady is only rude and a jerk to me and is nicer to everyone else.
I've only had good experiences here so far! I've had a couple of cleanings, a filling, and most recently an emergency filling for two broken front teeth. They were able to squeeze me in same-day and were all so nice and reassuring. The work Dr Shim did was amazing and Rose was a fantastic assistant! They both made me laugh and I truly can't express my appreciation enough.
The reason I’m giving this office five stars is because the dental hygienist LITERALLY made my teeth like 20 shades lighter in one cleaning. I was asked if I had my teeth bleached after by a co worker and my partner said new teeth? I misplaced her card but if you’re reading this, you have committed me as a client! Also I’m studying for a test and she hyped me up with her own story. ☺️
I was told I needed a cap on a tooth. Then I veas told they would call the next day at 7 am. I got a call but was told that they were scheduling me for the wrong doctor and they would call me back on Monday at 7 am. But they didn't call back.
I called the Willamette Dental scheduling number and they called the Tacoma Office. It went to voicemail and they left a message.
I tried to schedule this procedure a year and a half ago and had the same problem. A year and a half ago I gave up on it. I guess it really is not a priority.
I would recommend the Tacoma office for a cleaning and a check up, but scheduling procedures does not work.
I have an infected tooth and was able to get in the next day for an emergency visit. This was my first time going to Willamette. I went to the Tacoma location. The dentist and whole team were absolutely amazing and kind. They were NON judgemental and patient with me as I don't have the best teeth and have had bad experiences in the past. But everyone in the dental office were so kind and took the time to hear my current issues and what I would like to work on in the future with other teeth. I hope others are able to have the same experience, dental trauma is real and this place helps work past it all in a positive way I feel. Thank you to the whole team that helped me the other day!
