Best WLM Reviews
Lived in IC collectively for over a decade and and just now have tried Wildwood and I was not disappointed!
I actually thought it was strictly a bar and event venue for so long but there’s actual bbq here and it’s surprisingly good. The facility itself is nothing to write home about, definitely more geared towards the live music and bar but I didn’t come for the atmosphere.
Their brisket was bonkers good. Their sweet sauce is amazing, as were almost all their other sauce options. Loved the fish basket. The mac and cheese was good but I wish it was thicker with a sharper cheddar flavor but my partner loved it as is. One major important note was the coleslaw is actually good. Far too often slaw is too soggy or has an off taste but this was perfectly tangy. The portions are great and pricing is unbeatable. You can tell this place is well loved. They seemed a little short staffed which was okay by us, we were still taken care of and like being able to pay our bill through the toast app.
We've been to Wildwood but it was 5 or 6 years ago and due to its location we often forget about it. My husband and I were looking specifically for a couple sides and this restaurant came to mind. The only side they didn't have that we wanted were the sweet potato fries.
We went on a Sunday evening and it was quiet. This was nice because we personally don't like a lot of noise (whether a music act or music blaring.) When we remember to eat here again we will be sure to pick the same evening.
We ordered the cheese curds appetizer and two meat platter with pulled pork, brisket, baked beans and corn nuggets. It come with a slice of Texas toast. Brisket ($1) and corn nuggets ($3) are an upcharge. Still economical. The cheese curds were phenomenal! They were fluffy almost like air with a cheese taste. Towards the end of our meal, when they cooled off they were firmer but expected. The two meats were tasty, just enough smoke and not a lot of spices. We'd rather put the sauce on for flavor. They offer jerk, Carolina, sweet, spicy and original. We preferred the original and sweet. The baked beans were more spicy and smoky than we like but that is a personal preference. We also enjoyed the corn nuggets. Suggestion to Wildwood...get some sweet potato fries on the menu - that would be perfect. :)
The plates are rectangle metal dishes. I did not care for silverware on metal sound (like fingernails on a chalkboard.) I will ask for the parchment paper liners they have when they serve their food. That will help.
Seating (at least on the first floor) is barstool height. They did have 3 folding tables on the dance floor but there wasn't an event or music so it worked.) Any other time I don't see an option for a person in a wheelchair height. The 2nd floor is only accessible by stairs.
We'll be back to try more sides and meats for sure!
The pulled pork was SUPER juicy. We also had brisket and pork belly. All were amazing. The Wildwood platter comes with 1lb smoked wings. Highly recommend
Excellent food, great service. We were there just after they opened at 11:00 am. It looks like it would be a great place to be when there is entertainment on the stage. Once I visit when someone is on stage, I'm sure I'll give it all 5 stats.
The service was a bit slow but the food and atmosphere made up for it. Waitstaff very, friendly, if a bit harried. To be truly fair - there appeared to be a birthday crowd there, otherwise it was not terribly busy for 1 person. One has to wonder if the party didn't give advanced noticed.
The food was divine and they had Carolina Mustard BBQ sauce.
Went back today and a wonderful tenderloin, enough for two meals, plus some yummy potato salad.
Great ribs!! Got there about noon and ordered. It's quiet that time of day, so there was no waiting. The Rib dinner seemed a bit expensive at $18.00, but they brought me enough to last three meals! The Ribs were excellent and the potato salad and coleslaw were both just as good. Next time I'm hungry for ribs, I'm heading back there! Below are more of nice food available!
Venue and staff were great. I was there filming for one of the live performances and the sound system there was smackkkkkiinnnnnn. Being able to film freely over head as well as on floor level was a random bonus as a photographer
We were traveling and looked ahead at the menu and a few reviews and thought we'd try it. It was a Thursday afternoon for lunch.I can cook ok so I may be a tough critic but I'm trying to be generous here. My wife and I split a tenderloin and fries and a 2 meat BBQ platter. We figured we'd go both directions just to be safe and I'm glad we did.
The best thing we ate was the tenderloin. It was fresh, dry breaded, and cooked correctly with good quality meat. Fries appeared to be made in house at least average in taste and quality.
The BBQ platter is next. They were out of some of the meats they had listed. We settled on smoked chicken, burnt brisket ends with sides being mac & cheese and baked beans. The mac & cheese was acceptable. Cheesy, stringy and appeared to be fresh. The two meats next.... Brisket burnt ends were old and dry. Like yesterday or the day before old. The smoked chicken was pulled breast meat with zero smoke flavor. It almost appeared boiled.(but I'm sure that it was not.) It may have lacked any flavor but at least it was dry. The smoked baked beans had zero smoke. I did see a little pulled pork in there but they appeared other than that to come right out of a can. (and for sure tasted that way)
I saw zero pride put into the BBQ side of that meal. From a BBQ stand point I'd have been ashamed to serve that meal. Very disappointed. The bartender waitress was very nice. Rest rooms dirty and needed attention.
That place has a lot of possibilities. If you want to get drunk and watch a band on the weekend I bet it's a good place. But for quality BBQ I would give it a hard 2 on the 10 scale.
