I love the original location of Wig and Pen. Located next to Carver Hawkeye Arena, the restaurant is very busy on game day, but it's quick to get a bite to eat on regular days.
I love both their Flying Tomato and Chicago Deep Dish style the best, but they do boast a thin crust option as well. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Wig & Pen when I brought my daughters with me. They liked their food, too. Highly recommend.

Lots of decorations!! Tons of BRI ISH signs and was p clean as well. Really liked the wood Table was slightly dirty, and there was construction going on as well right outside the door.
Food: 2/5.
Got the cheesy fries and it was just raw fog cheese with fries and didn't go so well. Also had some Union Jack pizza and I didn't like how the cheese just fell right off the crust at every bite.

Always, the Union Jack Flying Tomato! Been a fan since I was 18. It’s been my go to for 28 years! Plus, the new patio is great! Palmer our Colorado Mountain Dog is a huge fan!
Our first time here! We had the onion ring appetizer and a thin crust Union Jack pizza. Just two of us so we ordered a med and took 1/3 home. Onion rings are cut in house (almost like onion straws) very good! All ingredients are fresh and a great quality cheese on the pizza.

This was our second time at Wig & Pen. The place is hopping so expect a slight wait. The staff is truly great and make sure you're taken care of. They cover for each other when it's busy, always looking out for patrons. The pizza is fantastic. It's going to be a must stop when going through Iowa City.
My star rating for Wig and Pen is based on 14 years of ordering their pizza. I love their pizza. However, what prompted me to write this review was my experience with them tonight. I was incredibly excited to see that they now offer Detroit style pizza. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed when I got home and actually looked at the pizza. On no planet is this a Detroit style pizza. The only thing this has in common with Detroit style pizza is the shape. There is no sauce!? Also, the hallmark of a Detroit style pizza is the cheese going all the way to the edge of the pan to create a crust. As you can see from the photo, this is not the case. I will continue to order from Wig and Pen for years to come, but I will never order the Detroit style pizza again!
The food was absolutely amazing, and since the stuffed pizza takes 45 minutes to cook, they allowed me to call in my order ahead of time to cut down the wait at the table. I'm glad that I have 2-3 meals of leftovers now ????
