When we're craving BBQ, we are willing to drive wherever we need to for great BBQ. We've tried so many places but this was our first time at Whole Hog Cafe. My family loved it! The portions are huge, the food is hot, fresh and tasty and the sauces are delicious! I really loved my brisket meal with Mac and cheese! It was so tender, and I put a generous amount of the #5 bbq sauce on it, which was smokey and a little sweet from the molasses. So good! My kid enjoyed a kids meal of two meaty ribs with a side and the other had pulled pork. My husband loved his whole rack of ribs with a side of burnt ends. This will definitely be on our list of place to return to when we are craving BBQ!
I rate this very highly due to the area I live in, NJ USA is not known for amazing bbq so this rates very high for me.
The staff are friendly and the food is made quickly.
If you choose to eat in, you’ll site in the restaurant surrounded by TV’s full of sports shoes and past BBQ competition awards.
Honestly the atmosphere was great as it really brings a BBQ place close to NJ and allows you to try this whole carnivore vibe from a state that is not known for any culinary prowess outside of high quality produce and Italian American food.
Its closest rival is the mission bbq which I think this smaller Homer vibe hits much higher. I wanted to finish by saying everyone i know goes on about raisin caines chicken tenders honestly this place has the best tenders I have ever had.
So this is a very strong recommendation from me along with brisket and the fries. Do not miss this if you are in the area.
Numerous BBQ/Smoked meat selections on the menu. A large menu board on the wall behind the counter lists all selections, sides, and drink options. Once you order, you are given a table number- the food is brought to you. Service was quick and really friendly. I had a Ceasar salad with smoked chicken, and was thrilled with the amount of chicken given. My dining partner had a rib platter- all platters come with corn bread and two sides such as potato salad, coleslaw, and other choices. He did wish there was more meat on the ribs, but was pleased with the taste. Six BBQ sauces are at each table or high-top.
We had our company picnic today and we ordered catering from Whole Hog. The service was great. they were here early and helped us set everything up. The manager himself delivered the food and was so friendly. The food was incredible. All of our employees were asking where we got it from because it tasted so good! The price per person was much cheaper than all of the other BBQ catering places we had researched too. I would absolutely use them again for company events in the future. Thank you so much for the delicious food and wonderful service!
Last night I was feeling hungry and was on on my way to try out Fevzi's Mediterranean Grill in Cherry Hill but decided to try out Whole Hog Cafe instead. I love BBQ food so I figured why not. In comparison to other BBQ restaurants in the area, I thought they were fairly decent. I spent around $17 for a 2 meat platter that came with 2 sides as well and cornbread. I picked sliced brisket (which was tender and juicy????????) and ribs (they were very small portion size ????????). For the sides, I picked mac and cheese and collard greens. The collard greens were very bland in flavor and tasted like they were cooked in chicken broth and nothing more. I had to doctor the collard greens to eat them and the mac and cheese was soupy and I ended up not eating them. If you are looking for baked mac and cheese, this is not the place to get them. Their mac and cheese was also bland. Now I love cornbread, but I was disappointed with their cornbread. It was mushy and a little gritty in texture. Overall, I was not pleased with the sides at all. The brisket was the winner for me personally. I also liked that they serve 6 different types of bbq sauces: classic mild, tangy & slight spicy, tangy & spicy, southern vinegar & spice, sweet & bold, and Rich mustard & vinegar. I tried all of the sauces except for sweet & bold because they ran out. My 2 faves were the tangy & slight spicy and tangy & spicy sauces. I give this place a 5 out of 10 and that was because of the brisket. I may return in the future to try other items such as their burnt ends (which was sold out yesterday) and other sides. This place is just ok, nothing to write home about. I have had way better BBQ food in the area before.
A poor ambassador for BBQ. I ordered the ribs and brisket and unfortunately this feels like a company trying to sell bbq to New Jerseyeans who have never had BBQ. It's meat, that's better than a day without it, but I would hate to be the cow who died to be a delicious brisket and instead gets served as a gray mass of cooked beef masquerading as BBQ.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was bottom round, because it sure tastes like it.
Thankful that this restaurant was open so my girlfriend and I could enjoy some delicious smoked ribs on the Fourth of July 2024!
The Brisket was just okay. The sweet sauce was very good. There was plenty of free parking and plenty of tables. The restaurant was very empty. I would not recommend stopping here. I won't be going back here.
