Feels like a time warp, in a good way. My folks had the root beer floats and I got the cider float cause they’re open during October this year! The Large Marge, Turkey Sandy and Big Ed were perfect as were my onion rings and the folks fries and chili cheese fries!
Riley (server) was on her game and made the most perfect floats. So glad I made it out for this and was pleasantly surprised at all the folks wearing Harris hats and shirts and the signs…in Ohio! Perfect start to the holiday weekend.
Oh and remember to bring cash cause just like the 50s, they only take cash.
I stopped by for lunch as I was traveling for work after seeing a sign for the place on a previous work trip. Open since 1952, I figured they've been doing something right. I sat at the indoor/outdoor counter ( a huge part of the charm here, in my opinion). I was greeted immediately and ordered their classic Turkey sandwich, a "large marge" (turkey sandwich with bacon and cheese), a small bowl of chili, and a frosted mug of Richardson Root Beer. My chili came out first along with the Root beer, the sandwiches came out very shortly afterwards. The chili hit the spot, as its Fall and growing cold in the North East. I think it couldve had a slighly better balance with more beef in it, but it was still plenty tasty. The root beer smacks of homemade...sweet and flavorful. I had to fight off several late-season yellowjackets that wanted to share. The Turkey sandwiches were next. I loved the rolls they used...soft with a little dap of course salt on the top. The shredded turkey was very moist.....with a turkey broth flavor throughout. The large marge with the bacon and cheese was tastier than the original, with the contrast between the turkey and bacon/cheese being notable. Something about the flavor of whatever broth its cooked in...I wasnt a huge fan of. But the sandwiches were still delicious. I loved the offering of condiments they sit in front of you once served...diced onions, pickle slices, and banana peppers. I used all generously, and they were welcome additions. It seemed very local when I visited...I LOVED the atmosphere and outdoor counter seating. By the look of it, I would guess that their ice cream/dessert offerings are delicious. I would also love to see how their burgers are (next time?). Servers were very attentive and friendly. Ambiance 10 out of 10. Food was a 7 out of 10. Cash only here....will be back to try a burger and ice cream!
First time visiting and found this place everything we heard it was! Great food and 50's atmosphere in today's world! Hubby and I had a wonderful date night enjoying the wonderful picnic area that was beautifully landscaped while having dinner. Then dessert was the top of the night... The famous rootbeer float! It was everything we heard it was!!! Maybe more!!! Definitely worth a visit to this charming place. Yes, they have something for everyone!
This 1950s era outdoor diner is a fantastic spot for burgers, fries, hot dogs and milkshakes. The food and service were impeccable, and the entire shop, including the seating area, was spotlessly clean. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Thanks for keeping this treasure running for so many generations. My wife introduced me to this gem and I absolutely love it. She loved her root beer float and the crinkle fries were a delicious bite of nostalgia. Hope to be back soon.
Outdoor diner, amazing root beer floats and burgers. I loved the Big Ed cheese burger! The onion rings are out of this world!!!!
Very cool old fashioned drive in with specialty sandwiches and well known for their Root Beer Floats. We got the regular size and it was huge! Lots of seating and even had covered area for when it rains.
Always a fun trip with nostalgic vibes. Music is from the 50’s and creates a fun atmosphere. The staff is always friendly and working hard. The outdoor dining area is clean, but there was a lot of bees both times I visited this summer. We like to stop at least once per summer to soak in all the fun times and great environment. Prices are typical and usually a point of conversation with this restaurant. The food is delicious and in my opinion worth the price. Parking is easy and well marked.
