We decided to take a short drive north to Metamora and stroll through this quaint historical district.
One of our stops was for lunch at the historical White Horse Inn. Lots of history here, it was known as the Hoard House(restaurant and hotel)after it was purchased by Lorenzo Hoard in 1850 and became a hotel and restaurant. It stayed with that name till 1929 when it became The White House Inn and stopped being a hotel in the 70's. Then in 2013 renovations started and finished in 2014 and what a beautiful job of restoration.
Once we parked and walked through the back patio, there were Christmas decorations and dining igloos on both sides of the walkway, where you can enjoy your meal without worrying about the weather outside. The inside was decorated for the holidays and what a fantastic job.
We were taken to a table immediately even though it was fairly busy.
Amber was a member of the wait staff(Not to be confused with Amanda) was wonderful.???? She was pleasant to talk with and she seemed to know when she could assist us.
We ordered coffee ☕ which was pretty good and the Fish Fry which consisted of Atlantic Cod(2 pieces) which were beer battered, tartar sauce, coleslaw and fries which were kind of unique!
Dessert menu looked delicious ???? but we were full.
Will definitely be coming back for dessert and coffee.
Great space, great food, great selection of local beers.
You get some big helpings of food here!
Reuben Sandwich - leaner meat, but still super juicy. Marble bread was a perfect match. Excellent.
Pot Roast - tender beef, and perfectly done potatoes. Probably way better than your mom made.
Mac and Cheese - giant portion handsomely presented in a cast iron skillet. Unfortunately, it was unseasoned. No cheese flavor and all the salt & pepper in the world could not save it. Everyone at the table was trying to trade it for half a sandwich. There were no takers.
Potato chips - homemade . They looked overdone, but were fine.
Service was attentive and pretty amazing.

The White Horse Inn is a delightful spot that never fails to impress, especially when it comes to comfort food done right. One of the standout dishes for me is their pot roast dinner. It's everything you want in a hearty meal—tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The meat practically melts in your mouth, and the accompanying vegetables and gravy make it a satisfying, soul-warming experience.
But the treat doesn't end with the main course. After dinner, they bring out a warm plate of cookies that just adds the perfect sweet touch to the meal. It’s those little details that make dining at the White Horse Inn feel like a truly special experience.
For starters, I highly recommend the rustic dip. It’s a personal favorite of mine, combining rich, savory flavors with just the right amount of creaminess. It’s the kind of appetizer that sets the tone for the rest of the meal, leaving you eager to see what comes next.
The White Horse Inn delivers not just on taste but on creating a welcoming and satisfying dining experience from start to finish. Whether you’re in the mood for a comforting pot roast or just want to indulge in some warm cookies, this place has you covered.
I mean honestly it’s the bees knees. I come here quite frequently. Family dinners, date night with myself, birthdays, etc. The food is creative but classic. The menu has plenty to offer. I’m a creature of habit but I manage to always try something new here. The wedge salad will forever be my placeholder though. Cocktails are elite. The atmosphere is my idea of perfection. Stunning, historical, and country chic meets posh. Service is always outstanding and accommodating.
I stopped in here for the first time and instantly it became a favorite of mine. I’ve ate at restaurants all over the world and I really do believe this might just be one of the nicest restaurants I’ve ever been to.
It’s hard to even find words to describe this restaurant. It is so beautiful inside and out. From the flowers all around the restaurant and the gorgeous outside dining patio to the details inside the restaurant are just as amazing. The floors and all of the paintings are something you would see in in a storybook. The menu is full of options that are unique and not the generic menu items at other restaurants.
The staff is amazing. One of the workers named Netty gave us a quick tour and explained the history behind this amazing establishment. She then gave us a few recommendations of some popular dishes and I am so happy she did because the food was amazing!! Appreciate her and everything she did for us.
I personally recommend the Buffaloaf for dinner and followed up by some of the Oatmeal Pie for dessert.
I wish I could give the restaurant 10 stars for everything. The staff, atmosphere and food truly are what every restaurant should be.
They were so amazing to work with! I had my bridal shower here the breakfast was so yummy! Our waitress was the sweetest and we got to many compliments on how great she was, and how beautiful the venue was. Lots of people told me it was the best bridal shower they’ve ever been to! Even the mangers were great to communicate with throughout the process I highly recommend having any event here. They are the best!
My first time coming to this establishment and it was breath taking. The attention to detail and the history is absolutely amazing. From the floor, structure of the building and all the decor that has meaning. The servers and hostesses were respectful and helpful. So many great options they’re recommendations didn’t disappoint. Prices are fair for the portion. It’s a little bit classier place there’s not a set dress code but it’s something to consider if it’s your first time. Highly recommend trying here if you havnt and I will definitely be back. Thank you to all the amazing staff especially the cooks too, the unseen hero’s that made all the delectable food.
Our server, Shelby, was very attentive, friendly and helpful. She made our visit very enjoyable! Thank you Shelby!
White Horse Inn never disappoints! The food is always flavorful and beautifully plated, the cocktails are delightful, and the seasonal specials are fun and delicious! The atmosphere is upscale yet still relaxing and comfortable. There is plenty of outdoor seating too (including igloos for the cooler months of November through March). Don't forget to allow extra time for visiting all of the nearby charming shops filled with wonderful gifts, foods, antiques, coffees and even a wine bar with outdoor seating too!
White Horse Inn is a staple, Go-To Spot for us! We'll continue to visit regularly! We highly recommend it to others!
