Best WLM Reviews
This is revision to my first review, today while in the area I stopped and they were finally open! I have to say this was TOTALLY worth the wait! First, the young lady answered all my questions and was knowledgeable about the best choices for what I wanted. The menu was small but in a good way, they do fish, and they do chips, I saw a chowder and like one or two other things on the menu, GOOD, play to your strengths! The fish tasted fresh, and we watched them hand batter it, I went for the four piece because usually these places skimp a little, NOT HERE, I was stuffed after the second piece! I want to give a shout out to their fries too, these are exactly the kind of fries I love, and they are fresh and well seasoned. Last the vibe was Poppin, this whole little area reminding me of L.A. very vibrant and full of life, people hanging out, socializing. This is the kind of place I moved back to the city to be part of. I currently have "what a catch" tied with first place for my favorite fish and chips.
The workers were nice but the food seems overpriced for the quality. The cod and halibut were oily and a bit soggy. They lacked spices so I had to douse them in sauce to add flavor. The fries were the only thing that was good. The calamari was horrible, really overcooked, no flavor, texture like rubber, and the portion was super small. The kid's meal had cookies but my siblings didn't like the prepackaged ones they had. I don't recommend getting the kids meal or the calamari. At least the view is nice.
The fries are very good but the calamari leaves something to be desired. Thick and rubbery. I wouldn’t get it again.
This place has amazing fish and chips! Got the 4 piece Alaskan cod, highly recommend. I also enjoyed their blackberry basil lemonade (very tart with a strong basil taste but I thought it was delish). A little busy, but I did go at lunch on Memorial Day. Worth the wait! There are bar height tables around but we went and sat on the steps by the splash pad.
Ordered the Bahn MI Cod Fish Taco and had to say there was a lot of flavor with this item. With even a spice kick. The fries had a genuine sea salt taste.
Surprised me given the feedback about other items reviewed.
The people behind the counter really drove a festive atmosphere including Joshua, who got the job done with a smile.
My wife and I get their waffle fries every time we come down to the waterfront. Today we ordered them with 2 pieces of cod. We were given regular fries by mistake, and were not accommodated with the correct fries but instead were told we will just have to order another order of waffle fries. So we paid twice just to get the fries we wanted to begin with. Boo.
They seem to have cut down food qty this year to save on costs. This meal now comes with 1 taco. Not sure if its worth the price now. Food was great, just overpriced for the size, thats all. Staff were excellent and helpful too.
If you like undercooked fish & bad service come here & have a ball! My husband and I do foodie content here in WA & we love to showcase small business, we are also fish and chips fans, we were so excited to try "what a catch". Everyone infront of us received prompt & polite service. When we walked up the cashier turned to the fry cook and started having regular conversation, turned to look at us , then continued to have regular conversation with the fry cook. He finally turns back to us and just stares. I politely say hi, and proceeded with my order. I'm met with an annoyed "is that all". Still being polite, I say yes thank you . We move on with the transaction and I'm told my name will be called when the order is ready. All I got was the 2pc cod & fries. Everyone in front of us got their order & the multiple people behind us got their order. I went to go check to see if I had been called and I'm told they are just now seeing my order and they are about to start it. I should have asked for a refund but I really wanted to try this place. I finally got my food and the fish was darker than what I'm used to. When I bit into the fish I got a mouth full of greasy fish and undercooked batter. The fries are OK, not good but OK. -0/10 overall . I've been places and had bad food but received decent service, if the service at what a catch had been better I wouldn't be writing this review. I will post a picture of my food, but keep in mind I do food content,So even when the food is bad I'll make it look good. Customer service is key. You can get away with almost anything if the service is on point. IF YOU WANT GOOD FISH AND CHIPS & FRIENDLY SERVICE GO TO PAYA THAI FISH AND CHIPS,located in Freighthouse in Tacoma WA.
