We are from VA, came here with family who live locally. The food was amazing. We paid around $60 for the 5 of us, and their portions are HUGE. Food was so good. We will be returning!
A good NC classic!! Enjoyed a What-A-Burger , onion rings and a Witch Doctor.
Old 60's style curbside service at a reasonable price
Like stepping back into the 60's. One of the few drive-in's still open. The What-A-Cheese Burger was made fresh and served on a large soft bun. Onion rings were hot and crispy but I think they were frozen to start. They use old style paper tickets to take orders and you're called by number. Definitely going back and a must try when you need a burger.
Let's get this straight. You're not coming to this restaurant for their speedy service, they're welcoming smiles, and for the great atmosphere. You're coming to this restaurant for their burgers. That's what they have and that's what they do great. If you choose to sit inside, you will order your food and take a seat. Waiting patiently for your ticket number to be called. And as every ticket number is called, it is kind of like a bingo game. You're just waiting to get your numbers. It's a great experience for anybody who has never experienced that style of restaurant. I personally love it, it brings back great memories and I loved the food itself. The restaurant itself was definitely not the cleanest on the inside. Looks like it hasn't been updated since 1960. But once again you're not coming for the atmosphere. You're coming for the burgers. They were great and I loved them and I would do it again.
Recently just left what a burger I ordered two burgers without bacon ask the man Did he make it without bacon he lied to my face and said there no bacon on it food as I checked the two burgers before I left the parking lot there was bacon I asked them nicely can you remake it there wasn’t supposed to be bacon, they said you didn’t pay for the bacon you’re OK that wasn’t the point I don’t want bacon I don’t eat pork I gave my mom her food so her food won’t get cold. There was a fly in her food. I respectfully asked for a refund. He said I can give you a refund for me and my partners food but not my mothers.
I’m from California & this was my first time ever visiting or seeing a What-A-Burger - I did some research prior to eating here. I was originally drawn in by their retro design- it’s all original from 1965 when they first opened- although this location is privately owned (not part of the chain any longer).
You eat in your car and order through a little intercom system. They have a special drink here called the ‘witchdoctor’ which has every soda they offer mixed together with pickle slices and a lemon slice- it was interesting to try for sure. We also had a cheeseburger and a what-a-burger cheeseburger and tater rounds. Everything was good besides the tater rounds. They were cold and tasted like the frozen ones.
It took 50 minutes from ordering to receive our food but we think it was because there was only one food runner- she was friendly though. Other customers were upset because it was taking so long to receive their meals and also it seemed like quite a few people had received the incorrect meal. Luckily we didn’t have anywhere to rush to be so we didn’t mind the long wait.
The cheeseburgers here are the best in the world and they're big too! IMO They are so good. Every time we're in town we stop and get a burger and fry. We always eat in car under canopy. The one time I went in I wasn't thrilled by the lady at the counter but that won't stop me from eating their burgers.
Great little hidden spot! Reminds me of when I was a kid. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the food is good! #HoleInTheWall
