I really wanted to like this place. The location is superb, and so is the ambiance, but we checked out early for a few reasons. 1. The rooms were not that clean 2. The rooms did not have good lighting 3. The property was not walkable, and if you are at the top of the resort you feel somewhat trapped because it is a long trip down. 4. The road is curvy and steep and no sidewalks. 5. The timeshare presentation was torture and way longer than 90 minutes. 5. If you are afraid of heights I would recommend you request a lower villa - the top of the property gave me vertigo. Service was so-so. If the weather was better I might have enjoyed this property more but I don't feel overly compelled to go back. On the plus side, the lodge was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The kids love the costumed characters who walk about, and they have a lemonade and popcorn service in the lounge every evening which was nice. The food looked good and the bar inviting.
Resort had a very smoky mountain feel. Made up in cabin like decor. Since we went in December we couldn't use all the facilities, like pools n hot tubs. There are no elevators , so if you have a lot of luggage be prepared to lug them up 2 or 3 flights of stairs . It's is located in a good location about 8-10 between Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge. The rooms decor was nice. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant n bar are average at best. We had no kids so we did not use the Waterpark. The experience was kind of off to a bad start. When we arrived the room was at 60 degrees and the temperature was 33 outside. We attempted to turn the heat up but by 11 pm it was only at 63. No higher. Attempted to call desk or maintenance but no one picked up. Went to front desk in the morning to complain. They sent maintenance who began with removal of air filter there had to be 2" of dirt on it. Disgusting. Another maintenance man came up was able to fix the adjustment. Just as a final note. The rooms lacks quality control. Kitchen cabinets were loose and had only basic accessories. Bathroom door didn't completely open, hitting the door frame. Dishwasher wasn't even bolted in.
Overall a nice resort with nice accommodations and a feeling of being in the wilderness. The food was good but very expensive. The WiFi worked really well and easy to connect. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. As others said it is quite a drive up if you are near the top and not too walking friendly. You’d need to use your car or a shuttle to go about the hotel. My main complaint would be the noise. I think they need to work on their acoustics and dampen the sound a bit. You can hear people walking, closing doors, talking.
renovated room with a great view. Staff was friendly and helpful. Extra towels delivered within 15 minutes. Parking was tight but we were able to get close to our room. This is not a walkable resort as it is quite large, but there are some internal shuttles as well as a free shuttle to downtown Gatlinburg.
I loved this location. The scenery was amazing the decor for Christmas was great, as soon as you walk in the bar is right there to get your vacation started. The room we stayed in had an amazing fireplace and balcony very roomy. I would have preferred 2 bathrooms but other than that no complaints. They had shuttle services which was very much appreciated because walking up
And down the hill to get to the restaurant, store, pool ,arcade and the spa was a bit much. The restaurant on site was ok nothing fancy, the store had a lot of things that were way over priced 10.00 + for mayo is just outrageous I know groceries are expensive but not that expensive. So we did have a few things we wished were different. The entry to get in should say turn here to Westgate Resorts because that little road to turn on could easily get passed up. The operating hours seem to be a little weird also nothing opens on site till after 830 and is closed by 10 pm or earlier. When staying at a Resort We just assumed that something would always be open. But other than my family and enjoyed our stay and already planning to come back soon.
P.s. Natalia was a great tour guide and was very informative.
We stayed here at a discounted rate because of the timeshare presentation, and these were our observations:||The Resort|-The place is huge (tons of rooms and tons of people) |-Located on the side of a mountain so it’s a steep drive up|-Not a walkable resort|-Right in the middle of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg which is nice|-Hard to get in/out of resort because of traffic on main road|-Beware of the black bears!||Lodging:|-We had a one-bedroom suite for 3 people, and it was plenty of room|-Only downside is that the pull-out couch is VERY uncomfortable|-It comes with a kitchenette and a washer/dryer combo|-You only get 2 free sets of coffee||Food & Bar:|-There is only 1 main restaurant (Southern Comfort) for breakfast, lunch & dinner|-We only ate breakfast here, but it was good and a decent price|-The only other restaurant we saw was in the waterpark area|-We were able to order pizza to be delivered to the room which was convenient|-They have a lobby bar that looked nice but it closes at 9 pm (sad face)||Amenities:|-The waterpark is pretty small, but located indoors, so I can see how it is nice in winter (if you like kids)|-The arcade was fun and pretty big for a resort arcade|-The market on site has everything a convenience store has, along with some souvenirs and fresh Starbucks||Surrounding areas:|-Gatlinburg in November was a disaster due to hours of traffic and globs of people|-Pigeon Forge was less crowded but we still had a hard time finding stuff to do|-Everything is VERY commercialized, it’s almost like the whole city is owned by Ripley’s Believe it or Not?||Timeshare presentation:|-We were prepared for this but they still laid it on thick|-You are told that you have to stay for a 30 minute lunch and a 90 minute presentation but you are there for almost 4 hours (longer if you say yes)|-You learn about the resort and the history, and then take a small tour of the amenities and a cabin, and then the manager comes out to talk about pricing|-Every time you say no, a better price becomes available|-After they make you feel like you are the scum of the earth for saying no repeatedly, and after 3 different managers have talked to you, you are allowed to leave||Overall, we will not be back. The resort was nice for a short weekend stay, and the Great Rocky Mountains were beautiful, but we found it to be quite boring. |Goodluck fellow travelers!
This place is a time share. They will try to sell you for 3 hours... convincing you that you need to buy a 2 bedroom condo for $92,000 put $20,000 down today, and pay 17.99 percent in interest. The deal must be made before you leave. If the first guy can't sell you, they send you a second guy, then a third guy before they let you go.
The real kicker of it is, you don't own anything. They promise you a deed, but it's only good for 1 week a year. Which means 51 other people own the same spot at $92,000 each. That's $4,784,000.00 they are essentially selling these 2 bedrooms for.. then figure the 5 years to pay at 17.99% and the probability of a few defaults from some buyers, I'd bet they are making about $7,000,000.00 plus per condo.
Don't get swindled... walk away.
This place is awesome. The unit was very nice. The restaurant Southern Comfort was amazing. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was on point. The staff was accommodating and very pleasant and nice. I will go back. This was the best mini vacation ever.
