All of the surprises kick in AFTER you buy your unit. The challenges of booking the right dates are ones that you don’t get to see beforehand. After a few years of paying the maintenance fees and property takes, you will the try to resell your unit. Soon, you will see that no one wants it and start to drop the price. Yoir thinkjng that if you bought it, and they assured you how much do a discount the were giving you, it couldn’t be 100% worthless….could it?
Pay those fees for a few more years and now you drop the price to $0. And then….you’ll PAY someone to take it off your hands. Remember, you WILL need to pay a real estate broker to help you with this.
Let’s do the math: Between the cost of the timeshare - which was paid with your retirement account and kid’s college fund - the maintenance fee, the amount you pay the person to take it from you, and the broker commission, you will be working to the ripe age of 95! Westgate is so bloodthirsty that - if they could - they’d charge you maintenance fees into the afterlife.
My family has been a part of ownership in this vacation resort for roughly 31 years. To say we are pleased with how each vacation week goes is an understatement. It’s truly sad how things have gone downhill over decades.
1. Every single time we come, it never fails. We have to move to another villa because of bed bugs and cockroaches. The crews in housekeeping do quick turn overs, it seems as nobody is inspecting for these issues. What did we get in return? “I’m sorry for this inconvenience.” Nothing was comped.
2. Beware of check in signing you up for “free breakfast” to hear a “speech” about the Westgate properties. It’s a sales tactic to get you to either buy more property or buy more weeks. I’m on a vacation, trying to enjoy my time here in FL. I’n not here to buy more property / weeks that I can’t make money off of.
3. Don’t waste your money at the resort restaurants. You’ll find better elsewhere along I-4 & surrounding suburbs. Service is lacking even on slow nights. Food isn’t anything to rave over, just purely a convenience so you can stay on property without leaving for anything.
4. A lot of villas still look like they did 35 years ago. Only a select handful of villas have been renovated. What are we paying for again? Oh wait I forgot, we’re paying for a makeshift ice skating rink.
5. If you want a low star, budget friendly, quick drive to Disney resort, Westgate is your kind of place
Westgate has been a staple in the Orlando area for a very long time. I’ve personally visited this particular property a dozen or so times.
This trip has been different and here’s why:
1. Rooms are getting extremely dated and dirty with much repairs visibly needed.
2. Employees verbally take-out their frustration with the ownership of the property telling customers how the owners don’t care anymore and everyone hates working here….and honestly it shows
3. The whole property has gone completely cashless, warding out the desire for international or budgeting travellers in my opinion… basically if u don’t have a credit card and wish to pay with cash, then don’t come here
Sad to say after over a decade staying at Westgate, we will not be back.

Westgate orlando is horrible. Beware. The sales team is a bunch of liars and scam artists. They promise and promise things when you sign your contract and once you go to stay in your time share you are part of the different resort.
My wife and I stayed at the resort for 7 days and loved it. The staff was very kind and professional the entire stay. They had tons of activities to do on location for the entire family but we didn't have the chance to finish everything we wanted. We will definitely be going back in the future! I highly recommend Westgate resort for anyone that is traveling to Florida for vacation!!!
If I could give zero stars I would. We had no air conditioning throughout our entire stay and were only offered a new room around 11pm of our very last night on property. Management did not care, and had no problem sending technicians in at 12:00am each night to “fix” the problem that never seemed to actually work. This resort does not care about our comfort only our money.
Horrible place we had booked 3 days and checked in and out 2 hours later. Unsafe for families and full of drug activity. Can’t get a refund unfortunately either they just give you excuses.
Always a pleasant stay there's so much to do onsite. Even recommend for families with young children.
