Went in Tues for severe cervical pain and pain/numbness down my left arm. They said they don't do imaging there, rads would just show maybe compressed disc but to follow up with primary for referral for mri. Also pain meds are not offered anymore via ER acording to westerly (except tylenol). My NP was Richard I believe? Sent with steroids and called my primary to follow up who got me in the next day.
Well next day, I woke up to complete motor function loss in my left arm, no reflexes, just a dead limb. Called westerly ER since seen here, they said over the phone they don't do imaging and there isn't more there they can do for me. I went to primary, who ref me to Charlton in mass. After being stroke coded as my arm was occasionallt turninf blue then normal, cleared that. Then an emergency MRI was ordered at Charlton. I had hrniated cervical disc causing paralysis of my left arm, I was sent in for emergency surgery as the disc needed fully removed along w the blood clots around them. After they removed my disc and fused my vertebrae, painful and recovering from surgery, my arm still has no function. Hoping that it will improve and regain function again. I am truly angry that our health care field is so terrible. It is insane you have to wait until you may have permanent damage to be taken care of. Preventative care is not a thing. Westerly ER did nothing for me except maybe leave me with a paralyzed arm.
I have been to so many different hospitals and have never had a pleasant experience I drove an hour away to come to westerly hospital after hearing amazing things and everything was true ! They got me in so fast barely any wait time and found answers for me after I was sent away by multiple doctors and hospitals I now know what was making me sick and can finally seek the proper care. All the staff was so friendly from the valet parking man to every nurse that helped me ! I can’t thank you guys enough :)
I came here 3 months ago for chest pain and the ER nurses I had were horrible. When they did an EKG on me, the nurses I had were rude and unprofessional, even laughing at me making me uncomfortable in my own body. After those nurses left someone else comes in to put a IV in my wrist. He would not listen to me when I said it’s very painful 10/10 pain, I’ve had iv’s before and never had pain like that. After I made them remove it. I was about to leave but my fiancée convinced me to stay for obvious reason. They were concerned with my heart rate being really high but a discharge seemed to be solution. Even though westerly hospital is 5 minutes down the road, and if I have to go to the ER again. I’ll drive the 32 minute's to south county hospital I’ll probably get the care I need and be treated better too
Recently had a laparoscopic surgery at this hospital and I am so happy I went here. Every staff member I encountered was kind and made me feel as comfortable as possible. My nurses, anesthesiologist, and doctor were excellent! I've been to many different hospitals in my life and honestly none compare to the care I received here! I am so grateful and cannot thank you all enough for the way I was treated. I am an hour drive away from WH and would make that drive anytime for any procedure I need done. Thank you WH!
just got done telling my friends that if they ever get into an accident or need emergency medical attention, DO NOT GO TO WESTERLY HOSPITAL. my boyfriend could not stand or walk, told the check in lady that i needed help getting him inside and she told me, 5’7 130lb female, to pick up and put my 6’1 220lb boyfriend in a wheelchair, as if that sounds possible and like the best idea. we have now waited in a hallway bed for well over an hour after he rated his pain a 10 and not a single medical professional, besides triage, has said anything to him. countless doctors and nurses have walked by and i just watched three nurses giggle behind the desk on their phones for about 10 minutes. do not come here. go to south county in wakefield or l+m in new london. westerly hospital should not even be on your radar for an option. DO NOT COME HERE. if i could give zero stars i would.
(This an update) as to how this was finally resolved: We had to call the governors office in RI to have them look at our paper work, the Governors office said we should never be denied a (Supervisor) We have never not paid a bill. We had a billing person calling us from
Yale New Haven she would not give us a supervisor.
We spent $8 to send our proof by
fax , that our $55 payment from our HSA had been sent to them. Fidelity, itself called them. In the end and after many months (4) of distress not even an I’m sorry. After all Yale New Haven had posted to my husband’s account even though my account number and name was on it. I asked them in the very beginning to check my husband’s account and Was told they did.
This is a good emergency room. The quality has gone down hill at hospital itself, I went for a routine procedure in the X-ray dept. I was treated like cattle “ you take her”, like I was less than a person.
Then I had lab work done through my Dr. paid the bill $55 through my HSA after it went through insurance last April. They continue to send a bill as myself and Fidelity have given them proof the bill was paid and sent correctly to Yale New Haven health. The money is at Yale New Haven health somewhere, but they keep harassing us about it. We have sent them faxes. We have sent them all kinds of correspondence from Fidelity and the women from YNH continued to call us about the $55 that has been paid. It obviously went to the wrong place or to someone else’s account. We have all the information on my (My Chart) however, every time they call, We have to start with the whole story again and no one looks on my chart or gives us a personal contact. We have asked several times for a Supervisor to call us and no one ever has. They continue harassing us about money that has already been paid in full and on time.That’s why we now go to South County. We were never contacted with an apology not even on here .
Had a surgical procedure done 12/5/24. The whole experience was great. Staff was outstanding and facilities were very user friendly.
Went in for an unexplained illness and was referred to a specialist. That specialist wasn’t taking new patients and when I called back to try and get a different referral, I was transferred through several different departments and eventually a woman in the ER said “don’t take that tone with me” and hung up the phone. I ended up having to go to another hospital and have all the same tests done again to get a referral to a different doctor. Very unhelpful staff, some of whom were also quite rude. Do not recommend.
