This is my first time back since it is no longer a Marriott property and all I can say is WOW!! The decorations and the service and the food—second to none and a true luxury resort in a tremendous area. Kudos to the staff for always going above and beyond-we will be back!
I am writing to provide accolades for Wentworth by the Sea!
Each year the Wentworth hosts a Christmas lighting of the hotel.
The out shine themselves each year by providing a warm, welcoming and hospitable event the personifies the Christmas and community spirit!
Though the lovely little town of New Castle benefits as much as everyone else, the Wentworth doesn’t have to make it so.
But they do and a shiny light shines down upon New Castle and the historic Wentworth by the Sea hotel!
If you’ve not yet experienced it…I encourage you to mark the date for 2025! There are other stellar events happening between now and the end of 2024, but any time would be a great time to stay a night.
My wife and I are looking at the New Year’s Eve festivities now!!
We had a wonderful stay with our baby. The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the lawn, enjoying a drink and letting the little one play. Great proximity to Portsmouth and other towns. Not sure why there are so many complaints about price. We felt prices were really fair. Only regret is not trying the restaurant for dinner. Will definitely be back!
My husband and I stayed for two nights in October to celebrate our wedding anniversary and growing family. Overall, we had a marginal stay but concluded that we would not be returning. Upon arrival staff were extremely accommodating when requesting to change our room due to preference of having a tub vs two showers (we stayed in a suite). The only issue was our second room had a faulty fire place. We were reimbursed a small amount per night to account for this at our request. The room was clean but certainly seemed to be dated for the price we paid. Our sleep was disrupted both nights due to a loud, outdated heating + cooling system. The pool and hot tubs were an area of dissatisfaction. The indoor pool was cold, did not feel appropriately heated for the time of year. Tiling around the pool deck and both hot tubs was slippery and unkempt. The outdoor hot tub that is primarily for spa guests but hotel guests have access after hours was not clean. The amount of built up grime on the tiles above the water line was concerning. Additionally, there were broken tiles that needed to be replaced. I booked a massage (60 min) with an added treatment. The woman’s locker room + my massage room were cold. Despite the additional service my massage barely ran over an hour and 20% gratuity was automatically included. We did enjoy room service our first evening and found the food to be of quality from the restaurant in house. The location is convenient with plenty to do in the Portsmouth area. Beautiful views yet, limited unless you are staying directly in the rooms on the water. In conclusion, for what was paid we did not feel the quality of the hotel met or exceeded our expectations. Disappointing, we will not be returning.
Worst "upscale" hotel experience of my life - it was disgusting. This historic building had its glory days when the Titanic was still sailing. We stayed in two different rooms our first night, since we had to ask the front desk to move us to another room around midnight when we saw a colony of bugs on the ceiling. There were no bug screens or curtains on the sliding windows, which other hotels around here have, that could have helped with the bug situation. Both rooms we stayed in were dank, dingy, dated, and noisy due to loud air conditioners and water pipes. The towels smelled musty. The hair driers were old and scuffed up. It is absolutely unacceptable to charge such high prices for this place. I would call it false advertising, since neither room looked like the more modern rooms on the hotel website. We left early the second day after I got woken up by what sounded like a loud generator at 7am right outside our door. The only credit goes to the polite hotel staff, who were kind enough to refund us for part of our stay.
This hotel was where the ambassadors who signed the peace treaty at the end of the Russo-Japanese War stayed in 1905. I would like to express my respect for the fact that such a building of such great historical value is still available for use and accommodation. The hotel staff were very kind to us visitors. They provided us with a collection of photographs and historical documents, which helped me to gain a deeper understanding.
My suggestion to folks considering staying here is, it's a very nice historic hotel. Decent bar, some nice views, food can be good. I say go if you're in the area for lunch, a cocktail, dinner or just to look around. DO NOT STAY THERE. My wife & I spent $1,100 for 2 nights & could not get a decent nights sleep. The HVAC system sucks. Loud, kicks in about 4/5 times an hour. Loud thud every time. It was awful. Couldn't wait to get outta there. So visit, eat, a beverage or two but find another place to stay.
We were very fortunate to find accommodations at Wentworth by the Sea when our reservation at another hotel was unacceptable. The staff were extremely polite and helpful. The room was comfortable and had a mini fridge and a Nespesso machine. The food was very good. The grounds were very peaceful and relaxing! It was a great experience and a great way to end our vacation!
