After years of coming to Atlanta, at least a few times a year on business, I finally had a chance to try this old and iconic place. It is a huge location with multiple dining areas. As many specialized eateries, the menu is very limited, which I like. According to TV shows, I have seen this place could get crazy busy! However at 4:00 PM there were hardly any guests. The counter service is very friendly, quick, and efficient, and the atmosphere screams like nostalgia with a very tactful decor.
The food, however, was not impressive to me their hot dogs are very small, and that's why they sell them in two. The taste was nothing extraordinary. They also only have ketchup and mustard on the tables. The bright side was their Onion Rings, which were house battery and delicious.
We went here while on a road trip. We heard it was a stop we had to make. I'm glad we did for the nostalgia, the food, however, left me wanting. I ordered a double cheeseburger, onion rings and a frosted orange. My husband got the 2 chili dog deal with fries and a coke. He liked the chili on his dogs very much. It had a little spice to it. The fries were very good as well. My hamburger came with 2 patties in a squished down bun and one slice of cheese not even melted. The patties were warm, not hot and there was nothing on it at all. The onion rings were so greasy I could only eat 3 before my stomach was upset. The frozen orange was too thick to drink, but once it thawed a bit it was tasty. We also ordered a peach pie. It had very little peach in it and the crust was tough and chewy. The young man who took out order was nice, but not welcoming. Got down to business. The building is very clean and plenty of seating. They have metal toilets in the bathroom. ???? i can say i went, but i don't think i have to go back. .
Awesome place. Been wanting to visit The Varsity for some time as my daughter attends GT and have heard good things about it.
The ladies there are very attentive, fast and courteous! Something that a lot of places lack nowadays.
Their chili cheese fries are awesome (and big portion) and their slaw dog is pretty darn good.
Will definitely go back next time I visit my daughter.
The best place serving fast food that my husband and I have visited. This was our first time in Georgia, but we felt comfortable and welcomed thanks to this place. Nice environment. Employees welcome you with a nice attitude. The food is very tasty. You won't regret trying the chilly hamburger and hot dog combo, we also tried the peach pie ???? Highly recommended ????????. We loved Georgia thanks to the beautiful people of this place.
I was really excited to finally try The Varsity after hearing many great things about it. The place has plenty of parking and tables. The food was served quickly and was delicious. The onion rings were very greasy, but who cares? It's The Varsity! Also had the orange drink, it was good. Would definitely go back when in Atl.
Pretty iconic spot. We thought this was a drive through but it didn't turn out that way. Regardless we went at like 4:30pm on a Friday and it wasn't that busy which was great because we saw line up posters inside. The hot dogs were pretty delicious albeit smaller than expected (which is probably why they sell them in twos). The frosted orange was pretty great - like a creamsicle in drink form. If you wait a bit for it to melt it's perfect to eat with a spoon.
My wife, son, and I stopped here while in Atlanta. We have been told by multiple people how good it is and that it’s definitely a place we should check out. My wife ordered a burger and hotdog with onion rings, my son ordered a hot dog with fries, and I ordered a burger with fries. I can’t confidently say that it was anything spectacular but it was good and I’d visit again. It’s a greasy spoon, quick in/out burger joint. The staff was very friendly, establishment appeared to be clean, and there was more than enough parking. Congrats on so many years of success!
Really cool place to visit for chili dogs and burgers. The lines may be long but they are fast at getting the food out. Great customer service, lots of seating, and good chili dogs.
