My partner and I went on holiday to Austin, Texas and visited Salt Lick BBQ as part of a Brisket and Wine tasting tour. The staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic! Mouthwateringly tasty and fell straight off the bone! I loved the Pork Ribs and Brisket! My partner had the Thurman's choice that gave you a bit of everything, also loved it! The whole scene was fantastic, including the open smokehouse where you could see all the meat being smoked and cooked. Really fantastic experience and would definitely recommend ????
Here’s the Texas BBQ you picture in your head when you think about Texas BBQ.
Huge space. Massive fire pit on the inside and on the outside. Friendly southern service and mouth-melting BBQ flavours. You can ask for much more.
The brisket is fantastic. The Bison Ribs a pleasant surprise and if you still managed to save some space, the Half/half cobbler is the perfect cherry on the cake.
Came for the food. Was captured by the atmosphere.
- Value for money? Yes
- Worth a detour? Absolutely
- Best for (occasion)? Proper Texas BBQ
- Would I go back? Definitely
Good, solid Texas BBQ. Earth shattering? Nah. Good? Definitely! The brisket wasn’t my taste, but the pork ribs were awesome. The highlight of the meal for me though was the potato salad. SO GOOD. A German, caraway vibe that I’ve never had anywhere else. I could eat that stuff by the bucket. The place itself was super unique and off the beaten path. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a stop.
I really wanted some deep Texas BBQ and my boy took us to this is place. The atmosphere was amazing. Such nice scenery and so many things to do and take in. We got there and the smell of BBQ took over. Service was awesome from the check in to our waiter. The disappointment however was with the food. The brisket didn't have great flavor but was cooked to the perfect doneness. The pork ribs were decent and definitely didn't need sauce. The turkey and pork sausage was great though. The true disappointment came with the Bison Ribs. For the amount of money, it was a disappointment. Mine was over cooked and tough. Flavor was delicious but I didn't care for the texture. Also, the sides were not what I am used to. The beans didn't taste like normal baked beans (which I hear is Texas style). The potato salad was mid. Definitely didn't care for it. However it was a decent food experience but great atmospheric experience.
Me & cosines love bbq we travel around several different bbq places to try the taste of it have have different experiences. This place is totally worth it friendly staff, life kitchen when you can see the pit where they make magical bbq they will allow you take pic too, food is 5 out of 5 just at the point. I would say highly recommended
Enjoyed our visit. Had to wait for 45 min which isn’t bad. The brisket was not the best I have tasted but it was good. The peach cobbler with ice cream was delicious. The chicken was very good. Beans tasted like they were from a can and the potato salad was ok. Enjoyed our visit. Large party.
The most delicious BBQ in Texas, I came on a Sunday with my family and we loved it! I appreciate the staff members for keeping everything clean and delicious. Great place for family dinners and the all you can eat deal is awesome! Thank you so much!
Very Tender great tasting bbq! Highly recommend to go and try it! The hill country drive is beautiful to get there! They have a winery there and have live music on weekends! Very rustic grounds with gardens and many places to sit outside
