This was a great experience! The amount of original features still in use is amazing. The food on board was lovely, but a little expensive, service was great though. Bed was a good size and very comfortable. The shower was very old, but was in keeping with the rest of the ship, even had its old salt water taps. The staff were lovely too. We enjoyed having a look around the ship and learning all of the history.
The Queen Mary is such a lovely place. My 13 year old son is fascinated with ships and the Queen Mary is one of his favorites. We traveled from Cleveland, OH to see it and loved spending a few days here. The rooms are comfortable and have kept a lot of its originality. We loved going for walks around the halls and finding different spots with educational information on the ship. The tours are also great. You have free access to the propeller room and the engine room. There was also a big section dedicated to the war. The food was excellent and if you can do the Sunday brunch, 100% worth it. They went out of their way to give my son a slice of cake for his birthday. The city of Long Beach is also an awesome city! Such a great experience. Will definitely return someday!
My girlfriend and I had the opportunity to stay 1 night on the RMS QM and take in the Paranormal Tour.|The tour was great fun. 2 hours long and took us to a few areas normally off limits on the ship. The Churchill Restaurant was a highlight of the tour. We hope they bring this back to its former glory.|The room we stayed in was a king with city views. It was well furnished and comfortable. Being able to stay on the ship made the whole experience very worthwhile. The amount of history open to the public on the ship was great for self-guided tours if you didn't want to pay for a tour. I would say the guided tours are worth the fee. |We will definitely be back in the future.
We stayed here in November and had a great stay. We were in a First Class cabin that had old wood paneling from the old days. Because of this, it is a little different than a modern hotel. The toilet is 90 years old as is the tub. They work fine, but they are old. Sound travels through the walls a bit. But it is also unlike any place on earth because its a 90 year old ocean liner. Your stay includes access to some of the tour areas which is a plus.
For years I’ve heard about the Queen Mary but never took it upon myself to visit. What I realized in many reviews from friends was they didn’t actually stay aboard the ship for a night or two. I made the attempt, awful experience I won’t repeat.
My room, virtually not been update in many many years. Toilet seat was disgusting. Wall outlet trim falling off the wall, shower head trim ring off, stains in the carpet, sink was clogged, almost no water pressure and the list goes on.
Shared photos of my experience with the front desk and was offered no compensation or move me to a better room. They only offered me an out for the second night.
Management accuses me of not giving them the opportunity to make it right. They were given that opportunity and failed epically. Look at the photos, would you be happy for the kind of money they charge?
Despite having grown up and lived in Long Beach over 50 years, this was the first time I'd ever stayed at the Queen Mary Hotel, although I'd visited it several times on day-trips or dining, or a tour. The king bed was comfortable, but not perfectly level as the ship seems to list a bit to port. The "Harbor View" rooms on the starboard side (which we chose) offer a picturesque view of downtown Long Beach across the water, but the "Portside" rooms look out onto the parking lot and Long Beach's cargo terminal. One of our porthole windows wouldn't close all the way; since we were only staying one night, I didn't bother about it, but be aware that much of the ship is undergoing renovations. Hopefully, someday it will return to it's full glory. Remember she was launched in 1936 and survived WWII. The ship itself is fun to explore. The beautiful art deco appointments of the period are kept in great condition. Walking around, at times it feels like being on the set of "Titanic," but, you know, before the iceberg part. Oh, and we randomly bumped into the Captain in the elevator--super nice gentleman! Yes, the ship still has a Captain and Officers.
My wife and I have stayed here at the Queen Mary. Many times but this time was extra special. We went for the Halloween horror night and stayed in the Royal suite. It was one of the coolest rooms we've been in in a long time, very large 2 bathrooms, 2 rooms. 8 closets looking straight down at the action of the Halloween festivities. Everything is cool about the Queen Mary, including the rooms and the observation bar. The people were great this old place is always really cool to stay at, little bit spooky but that makes it cool. Take a long walk around the boat in the middle of the night. It's awesome the views everything.
The Queen Mary lodging was a huge disappointment. I expected age; we were staying on the Queen Mary after all. But, I expected maintenance and accommodations to be on par with the price of the stay. Instead, we were met with a run-down room akin to a Motel experience. Friends in other rooms noted wood paneling and details of a high-end experience. Our room had a view, but the caulking and wallpaper were peeling, and the bed was uncomfortable and not worth the price. We had dinner at the restaurant and the steak was inedible for the entire party. They are not set up for large groups. At the observation bar, where we spent most of our time, the service was great, the vibes excellent, but the prices were far too high, and the cocktails felt watered down. We took the Steam and Steel tour expecting a behind-the-scenes look at a historical treasure and walk through the engine room (!fair warning! The boilers and engine have all been removed). Instead, we were walked through the museum and self-guided tour stops with a friendly narrator. Save the money; if you can read, do it yourself, it's all open to the public. In summary, this ship is on its way to the bottom of the ocean. We hope management takes maintenance of the ship seriously to create a worthwhile trip for visitors.
