First you get a small bowl of world class corn chowder that was out of this world good. Service was perfect, never waited on anything from service staff. You get corn fritters and biscuit/roll with a soft butter that hints of some maple. Then i had the lunch portion of turkey with dressing, green beans and mashed potatoes. My wife had meatloaf with the same sides. The lunch portions were huge. 8-10 thick slices of turkey over a large bed of dressing smothered in gravy. I ate until full and there were at least half my portions untouched. The menu was open with many offerings. I would strongly suggest this place and the prices were low for the quality and quantity of my servings. Only thing remotely negative about this place is the wait time. At lunch we waited about 35 min. So just plan accordingly. It is first come first served, no reservations.
We’ve visited here a few times over the years. I don’t feel like the food quality is as good as it has been in years past. We had an omelette and the country breakfast. It was all mediocre. The bigger deal for us was the experience. It was very loud and most of the noise was kitchen, servers, people busing and resetting tables. All real loud banging dishes around. They could slow down just a little and make the whole experience better. I added a video to share the noisy experience but didn’t want to show faces.
Overall pretty disappointed.
Remains the best after first visit 20 years ago. Had about a 30 minute wait on a Saturday, but well worth it. Service was excellent and the server never missed a beat. Food was excellent. Definitely quality ingredients and the quantity of the food was good compared to most restaurants today that look for ways to cheat customers. The only regret... I didn't return for a second meal during my trip.
This place is legendary! The food, service and hospitality is incredible. For $25 you basically get served a feast. The biscuits with corn fritters and butter to start are ridiculous. Corn chowder served next is excellent. You then get a small salad with a choice of dressing. Then the main course. I had the fried catfish which was outrageous and my wife had the fried chicken and it was also outstanding. The serve it with big bowls of excellent mashed potatoes and wonderful stewed green beans cooked with ham. So good. You also get a dessert. I had the best pecan pie ever! They brought the kids fresh vanilla ice cream on the house. What an amazing restaurant. I can't say it enough.
It is a lovely place, going all out with a cute old mill atmosphere. It was clean and well lit inside, with a nice chatter and seating. Food was OK, had a nice starter of corn fritters and their original corn chowder. Don't order too much because it is more filling than expected. Overall, i would definitely recommend this place!
When planning our trip to area, I kept reading The Old Mill Restaurant was a must try. The area and the outside of the restaurant are really cool. Beautiful!
Family of 4. We went on Friday around 3:30, so just before dinner menu. We were seated right away. The corn chowder soup is really good. Hush puppies and biscuits were good. I got the fried chicken and was very disappointed. The chicken was as dry as the desert! I originally was going to order something else but heard they were known for their chicken. Huge disappointment! My husband went with country friend steak and he said it was just mediocre. Maybe it was an "off" day or because it was between lunch and dinner. The atmosphere was impressive but main dishes, not so much!
Everything we ate here tasted DELICIOUS. Hush puppies were the best I have ever had. Seriously wanted to eat the entire basket. Country fried chicken was fantastic and was paired to perfection with the mashed potatoes and green beans. Staff here were super friendly the second we walked through the front doors. We sat right away in the afternoon on a Saturday as well. I got Cracker Barrel vibes from this place but it seemed like REAL home cooking compared to CB. Don’t hesitate about thinking if you should try this place, just do it. For me and more importantly, for yourself.
The food was excellent! I had the chicken and dumplings. Others had pot roast and country fried steak. One had a salad. See pics. Very generous portion of food. The corn chowder, I could have made a meal out of it alone. Everyone was very pleased with the taste. Friendly staff for sure. Employee made sure we got under the canopy for parking, seeing we were on bikes.
The bad
Seated 6 of us at the round table at the drink dispenser area. Very noisy. Big bin of ice being banged around and the employees tend to meet there and chatter loudly.
A heads up to the owner. As an electrician I tend to automatically look at others work while visiting places. Who ever done the electrical for you should return immediately and safety your business. Chandelier hanging by just the electrical wires. Wall sconces crooked and not secured tight. I'd hate to see what the electrical panels look like with the quality of work done on exposed areas.
