Best WLM Reviews
This is a splendid BBQ shack in Austin, ticking off all the boxes for a great meal: Friendly service, nice setting (inside and outside) and great variety of fantastic tasting food.
Pork ribs were our clear winner together with their traditional sausage. Equally, the sides were some of the best we’ve had: creamy sweetcorn, coleslaw and mac&cheese to a very high level.
A place to definitely return to.

Terry Black's in Austin is a BBQ lover's dream! We tried the meat platter, and each bite was a masterclass in flavor—tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. The sides were just as impressive, bursting with unique tastes that complemented the meats. The lively, festival-like atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience. We even got to chat with the BBQ master, who shared some of the secrets behind the incredible flavors. Truly a special place for anyone who appreciates top-notch BBQ and a welcoming vibe!
Great BBQ! I asked for Fatty Brisket and the guy sliced the slab in half and gave me the fattiest pieces - amazing service! Food hall style. The line was out to the parking lot. They DO NOT take reservations. Parking lot was totally full so take an Uber there. Try all 4 sauces!
Terry Black’s BBQ in Austin is a must-visit for any BBQ enthusiast! Be prepared for a wait—the line was 100-200 people deep when I visited and took about 30 minutes to get through. The ordering process is a bit chaotic but flows well, thanks to the efficient and friendly staff. The meats were great, though lukewarm by the time I got them. The brisket was tender and flavorful, and while the beef rib was $35 each, we opted for the pork ribs, which were fantastic. Most sides were enjoyable, but the pinto beans were disappointing, and we ended up not eating them. While the food is undeniably delicious, it is on the pricey side for the portions you get. The outdoor seating adds to the experience, making it a true Texas BBQ spot. Overall, it’s worth the visit if you’re in Austin, but be prepared for the cost and know that some items could use improvement.
I recently visited Terry Black's Barbecue and overall, it was a great experience, though on the pricier side. The food was good, and the sides were a standout. I tried the coleslaw, which was fresh and flavorful, and the creamed corn, which had a unique sweetness that made it taste almost like dessert—but it was still enjoyable. The green beans looked fantastic, and I regret not giving them a try.
For the meats, I had the 1/4 pound turkey, which came as two slices and was more than enough, and the 1/4 pound brisket. Both were tasty, though I expected the brisket to be exceptional—it was good but didn’t quite reach "great."
The atmosphere and quality make this a solid spot for barbecue, but be prepared for higher prices. While it’s not the most budget-friendly option, it’s worth a visit for the experience and flavors.
I came here because we were just at Barton Springs and we passed by and it looked popular. The BBQ was really good. The brisket was moist and tender, the sausage was good and even the turkey was moist and not dry. The Mac and cheese was decent but could have been cheesier. The beans were also ok, flavorful but nothing exception. I would say the meats were outstanding but the sides were average. The line up moved fairly fast, which was great. The pricing was above average for BBQ. Overall, I'd recommend this BBQ joint
If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars I would. The BEST Mac & Cheese I've ever had in my life. If you don't try their Mac & Cheese, you're missing out.
From start to finish my experience at this restaurant was amazing and intriguing at the same time. There was a lineup way out the door and I wondered if I should wait. Don't be fooled - the line moves FAST. They have 2 opportunities along the way for you to buy drinks while you're lining up to buy food.
Once you get inside, you have staff informing you how to order which is very helpful because things move quick! You first order the sides. We got a portion of Mac & Cheese, green beans, coleslaw, pickles and cornbread.
For the meats we got 3/4lb pork ribs and 1/3lb brisket. This was the perfect amount of food for my partner and I.
My individual ratings for each would be:
Pork ribs - 9.5/10
Brisket - 9/10
Mac & Cheese - 10/10 (11/10, really)
Green beans - 9.5/10
Coleslaw - 8/10
Pickles - 9/10
Cornbread - 10/10
Don't get turned off by the line, it moves fast! I would highly recommend this place - I would go back in a heartbeat!
Terry Black’s Barbecue is a must-visit for BBQ lovers! While the long queue might seem daunting at first, it moves surprisingly fast, thanks to their efficient service. Once inside, the smoky aroma and vibrant atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable meal.
The real star, of course, is the food. The flavors are simply out of this world, with meats perfectly smoked to tender, juicy perfection. My personal favorite is the ribs—they’re fall-off-the-bone tender with just the right balance of smokiness and spice. Paired with their delicious sides, it’s a feast worth waiting for.
If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this Texas BBQ gem!
