It's always fun walking in this village with all its Greek heritage. Lots of restaurants and shops. Take one of the many boat dolphin tours. Great way to spend a day!
SPONGE capital of the world. Very interesting history of how the divers harvested the sponges. Greek community. Lots of Greek food and bakeries also many small boutiques to wander in and out. Great place to visit. Boat tours available.
Take a step into Greek culture in this quaint Greek Town of tarpon Springs. Friendly people Amazing Fresh Foods and so much history. This def is a slice of Greece right here so authentic makes you feel like you’re really there. Wide variety of Greek foods gyros, spanakopita and let’s not forget their amazing fresh baked breads and desserts. Shopping here is great too from fresh sponges and so fresh they even still smell like the ocean lots of unique finds here. They even offer a boat ride out to where they harvest the sponges. Another amazing thing is if you’re a movie buff like me they filmed some scenes of the movie Dolphin Tale here. Definitely a must see. Happy Exploring!!
Wonderful place so many nice stores and restaurants. Love the Greek people and cultural. We didn't take the tour on the sponge boats but there is still so much to see
Great place for a day out and amazing food. Highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Tarpon Springs area. Parking, mostly paid, is tight but available just about everywhere. See the shops. Eat at some fantastic restaurants. It's worth a day out.
Very nice old Greek Village Visit Florida and Explore Loved the lighting ! Sponges were absorbent ! For Tarpon Springs, the boom started in 1887 when railroad service to New York was initiated. Wealthy Northerners came to this popular destination and built beautiful Victorian mansions; established churches, schools and hotels; and started businesses.
Because the waters surrounding this area were teeming with sponges, divers from Greece came here and soon developed a flourishing sponge industry. The many Greeks who migrated here also set up enticing restaurants, pastry shops, and markets giving the area a Mediterranean mystique.
Fun place to see and walk around. Some may call a tourist trap but we enjoyed all the little shops and restaurants. They have boat rides. We really liked that the whole area is pet friendly. We got a few souvenirs really cheap.
Beautiful area and small town feel. Tons of fishing, shelling and dolphin tours. Plan to spend a good part of your day. I recommend going a block off the main strip and eating at Mama's Greek Restaurant. Excellent food and location.
