So I went here because of the history with Stephen King and all that. Don't know how the rooms or the service is seeing as we only walked around the property and stopped in the little pastry restaurant they have. The service in there was good.
This place has amazing views of the rocky mountains, and it really is a beautiful property. It's very rustic, and they have stayed true to the old school vibes. If you're in the area, I would definitely check it out. It was a nice way to spend a few hours wandering around.
My boyfriend and I had been visiting from Phoenix for a weekend. We were looking for something fun to do, and to our pleasant surprise, the Stanley hotel was very close to us! We had to take advantage of going on one of the few tours provided by the hotel. Since we are Stephen King fans, we had to take the opportunity to go through the Shining tour. Our tour guide Ryan exceeded our expectations! He was very funny, charismatic, knowledgeable, and super passionate. We could not have imagined a better tour guide to have given us this tour! The tour itself was so much fun, we had learned so much and got to see so many pieces of history. I highly recommend checking out this hotel, even if you don't take a tour, the area and hotel itself is stunning!
We spent the afternoon here exploring the hotel, the maze and the shops before taking the Shining tour. Our guide was exceptional! She was knowledgeable, witty and gracious. In fact, all of the staff we encountered seemed to go out of their way to be sociable. The grounds are simply breathtaking and the view cannot be matched! We loved our visit!
I went with a few friends to do a tour of the hotel. Our guide was fantastic. He was personable and knowledgeable, and he shared a lot of cool spooky videos of sightings from previous guests. He highly recommended taking a lot of videos and pictures. You can't bring your drinks with you during the tour but I really want to thank the attendant at the tour start for taking our empty glasses. You didn't have to but we appreciate it so much.
We had drinks at the bar at our bartender was friendly and the drinks were very delicious. Overall a wonderful experience. The views are stunning, the hotel is nice and the staff I very accommodating.
Beautiful hotel! Did not stay in a room but took the Shining tour. Informative and the guide was very knowledgeable but definitely not what we expected. They told us a few ghost stories and showed us a few pictures but didn't take us anywhere other than an old stage room and an old house. Could have been more and definitely not worth $30 each person.
We had a wonderful anniversary stay at the Stanley Hotel. A charming and historic hotel with amazing views of the Rocky Mountains. We stayed in room 336 and I would pick that all over again as the direction of the windows made it perfect for seeing the mountains and the front of the property where the newer Maze is (the only maze and NOT like the movie as that Maze was never actually there).
There is a very ghostly feel to the hotel, some of it is due to the age with the wood floors and old windows but I think that adds to the fun and spooky charm.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was spacious and comfortable. It would have been nice to have a little nightlight because when it is dark it is very dark.
The little in room coffee bar was nice and they do have ice in case you like ice water or want to cool off your drinks (No Fridge or microwave but there was a coffee maker) Really anything you needed food and drink wise you could get from the Colorado Cherry Company in the basement and it was not that expensive which was nice.
We went on the Shining Tour and they do remind you that the mini series was shot here but that the movie with Jack Nicholson was actually not on the property so definitely some things we didn't completely realize. The hotel leans into spooky with rooms named The Overlook, The Stephen King Room and some other little tidbits. The Real Shinning paraphernalia is actually in the Caretakers house. So that was neat to learn. I highly recommend the Stanley Hotel to anyone looking for a memorable and unique experience in Estes Park. We would definitely go back!
The Stanley is a 5 star location with 2 star service. First, there is no valet nor is there bell service. You can't park in front of the hotel to unload. You have to take a cart to the uneven parking lot and hope the cart doesn't runaway from you. The rooms are mediocre. Not enough towels. No phone to call the desk. I expected real glasses but only plastic cups. Ran out of toilet paper the first day. Asked the front desk for change to leave for the maid, sent me to the Cherry Co. where only one person was working at peak coffee time. Stood in line for 30 minutes to get change because front desk had no cash. No chairs in the rooms to sit. No place to put toiletries in the bathroom. It's the little touches that don't cost a lot that could make this place fabulous. Cascades Restaurant has good food but again, lousy service. For $400/night I expect better.
If you love The Shining, a classic atmosphere, and the outdoors, this is the hotel to visit. Our room was spacious with a very comfy bed, the hotel lobby and other rooms transport you back in time while retaining a comfortable feel, and the area is close to many great hiking trails (we did the Devil's Backbone and Gem Lake). The Shining Tour is fun (do it at night!), and the Cascade's bar has a massive selection of whisky.
I will say though, I wasn't impressed with the restaurants. Brunch & Co was good, but extremely overpriced for breakfast. $5 for a cup of black coffee? Come on. The Cascade's bar is great, but the food at the restaurant proper was far below the quality I was expecting for the astronomical price (under-cooked potatoes, less-than-crispy duck breast, rather bland selection of sides). Overall, I do 100% recommend the Stanley but I suggest you get food in Estes Park instead.
