This place has some of the best BBQ I have had from a restaurant in California! The beef ribs, cornbread, Mac salad, sausage and wings are all absolutely delicious! The BBQ sauce they use is outstanding. Not really a Texas, Carolina, or Memphis style. It has a spice kick to it with a sweet, slight vinegar taste. The service is great. Only issue we had was finding a table after ordering. But tables clear pretty fast. In all, I highly recommend and will definitely be back whenever I am in town!
Really good food if you like eating meat!! I’m more of a Carolina style BBQ person, so the pulled pork wasn’t my personal favorite, but it was still a solid 7/10. The wings were about a 8/10… tender and juicy. The pork ribs were my favorite 9/10. Overall very good for the price, this all was under $35, and I had leftovers to eat for dinner.
Great food. Went about 3pm for dine in and it wasn't that busy. Seems like the cashier and person putting orders on the counter to pickup weren't very excited to be there. Maybe they were having a bad day. There were however a few workers that were very cheery who walked by our table and made sure we were doing okay many times. I can't recall coming here before and waiting 17 minutes for just 2 meals. We didn't order anything unusual. A Broham sandwich and ribless dinner. Regardless the time it took to get our food, the food was still as good as we remembered. The BBQ sauce is the bomb! Price continues to be fair for what you get.
Where to begin. The exterior and interior is VERY welcoming, fun and seating is not tight at all. The staff was amazing and nice, with helping us 1st timers to the clean up crew and staff that just circles every minute incase you need anything. The food, wow those ribs are on point. Corn bread is good and sauce is perfect. I will definitely return
We are from out of state and always make Phil’s a stop while in California! Best BBQ and great service! You can’t go wrong with the baby back ribs or the pulled pork sandwich! Onion rings and pasta salad are a must !!! So yummy !!! My only complaint is BRING BACK THE WHOOPIE PIES !!! Those are the best and haven’t had them back in years ! All in all Phil’s is a great large group, family or a couple date night must !!! We love Phil’s and will continue to make a stop here every chance we get !!

Promotion for Superbowl LVIII wings arrived and I was hosting the hubby and felt elated to have Phil's BBQ on the menu. All in all, the order was disappointing due to my chicken being under cooked as shown. Such is the case with the wings as I like a more well-done wing over temperately served with hard gristle.
Refund issued...thanks Cami for noting that your team could have done better! I used the funds to go in for dinner on date night with the spouse utilizing my B-Day jump the line pass. My 100% order for what is my favorite is the Beef Rib dinner some for now and the rest for later with 0% CHAR...no sauce and just really no char that takes about 20-minutes or so more. Husband full baby-back that normally has no trouble as it's just regular.
I received post 20+ minutes later ribs with more CHAR than I could stomach...as my husband noticed my struggle. I was so very sad...just sad because I just wanted to eat my food, and be satisfied like everyone else. No pic because I knew it wasn't the normal but still, I have to mention it so You too can enjoy the
Remedy by another manager Jay who listened. My Superbowl order was awful and now I said ’I was going to share the CHAR with the world in sadness”:{{{ Then he said come see me and I'll take care of you. I did a few days late and had my lesser char ribs in the "BAR" area served to my satisfaction. I don't expect 100% every time, but when you claim to specialize in something what is a CUSTOMER to do/expect!!!
ON my B-day night it was the team of server’s post order that made a difference too. Young guys who just were sad, about my SB experience the current order of unacceptability…they REALLY helped me/us!!! It was so nice seeing the youth working and making a difference in the service industry again. One took it back to show the manager and then was told to bring my order back to my table making my entree...hot fries now cold. Oh...back to Jay and the remedy-->thanks for making it better, and I will be back just not soon.
Coming to SD and not visiting the Phil's on Sports Arena Drive is sinful...it's still my one and ONLY FAVORITE rib joint. I know I may have to send it back and I will before I pay a pricey/worth it penny on again. I just want it right and NO More Redo's of the Redo...trusted results are in the making~
Absolutely love this place! Moved here 2 years ago from Texas hoping I’d find somewhere with BBQ up to my standards and this place is it!! It’s well worth the wait every time!
Excellent food and service!!! Go for Pork Ribs and Beef Ribs, the Cornbread was quite good too, soft and moist...
