Mixed Experience at Pat's King
Pat's King of Steaks offers a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of classic diners, which adds to the dining experience. However, it's worth noting that there are no restroom facilities available, which can be inconvenient for guests. While the steak and cheese weren't exceptional, they were satisfactory. The main highlight is undoubtedly the ambiance, but improvements in amenities would enhance the overall experience.
Make sure you have some cash on you because you have to pay a fee if you pay with a card. There are no restrooms or anywhere to wash your hands. It can get very busy with a long line. But don't get scared of the line, it moves very fast. We visited from California and were super excited to try this place, but the experience was a little disappointing. We tried the pizza pepper one and the mushroom one. The taste of the food wasn't what I expected... it was almost tasteless and had no salt. I definitely had better cheesesteaks before and outside of Philadelphia!
This joint looked iconic as I approached it, so I was excited to give it a try! Pat’s King Of Steaks is The Originator Of The Steak Sandwich.
My dog, significant other, and I walked up to the counter to order. We went with a Steak for 12.96, a Cheese Steak for 13.89, and a Hot Dog for 4.63. We did get onions on both the Steak and the Cheese Steak. Since we wanted something to drink, we had to order from a different area, so that was weird and inconvenient to make two transactions. The Sodas were 3.70 and I ordered a Coca-Cola.
The food was ready almost immediately. That was a plus. We sat down at a table that they had outside. This place didn’t have any indoor seating, unfortunately. It wasn’t the most comfortable dining situation. The Steak had meat that was chopped too small to my liking and it didn’t have much flavor to it. The onions helped out a little bit, but the sandwich was just alright. The Cheese Steak also had meat that was chopped too small, but this sandwich was a bit better since it had a good amount of cheese to add flavor to the meat. Oddly, the Hot Dog was my favorite item. It definitely had superb quality. The Coca-Cola was good, but it was overpriced for the size it was.
The service was displeasing to me. The employee that took my order for the sandwiches and Hot Dog came off as rude and incoherent. The employee who took my drink order was friendly.
Overall, this was a quick and interesting experience. I’m definitely glad I tried this place just to say that I did. Maybe I’ll come back again someday if I’m in the area.

I preferred this bun and cut of steak over Geno's. Cool setting, with Geno's right across the street. They accept credit, which makes it more convenient as a traveller from Canada. A must try when in Philly. I recommend the American Cheese, and not cheesewiz.
Pat’s King of Steaks reigns supreme as the undisputed champion of cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, and for good reason. With each bite of their iconic creation, you're treated to a symphony of flavors that tantalize the senses.
The perfectly grilled steak, nestled in a pillow-soft roll and smothered in gooey cheese, is a culinary masterpiece that leaves you craving more.
But Pat’s isn't just about tradition; they're also pioneers of modernity. While neighboring competitors cling to cash-only transactions, Pat’s embraces the future with tap-to-pay technology, catering to the needs of contemporary customers.
Their commitment to both flavor and convenience solidifies their status as the reigning monarch of cheesesteaks in the City of Brotherly Love.
Pat's King of Steaks, an iconic institution in Philadelphia, is a must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic taste of the city's famous cheesesteaks. Located at the corner of 9th and Wharton Streets, Pat's has been serving up its signature sandwiches since 1930, earning a reputation as one of the original creators of the Philadelphia cheesesteak.
The atmosphere at Pat's is casual and bustling, with a no-frills, straightforward setup that lets the food take center stage. The outdoor ordering windows and picnic-style seating contribute to the lively, urban vibe, making it a quintessential Philly experience.
The menu at Pat's is straightforward, focusing primarily on the classic cheesesteak. You can order your cheesesteak "wit" or "wit-out" onions, and choose from a variety of cheeses, including the popular Cheez Whiz, provolone, or American. The bread is a crucial component, and Pat's uses fresh, locally sourced rolls that are soft yet sturdy enough to hold up to the generous fillings.
The cheesesteak itself is a masterpiece of simplicity and flavor. The thinly sliced ribeye steak is cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, and packed with savory goodness. When combined with melted cheese and grilled onions, the result is a deliciously messy, flavorful sandwich that hits all the right notes. The balance of textures and flavors is what makes Pat's cheesesteak a standout, providing a satisfying and indulgent meal.
Service at Pat's is efficient and to-the-point, reflecting the fast-paced environment. The staff are experienced and handle the constant flow of customers with speed and precision. It’s important to know your order and how to ask for it before reaching the counter, as the lines can move quickly, especially during peak times.
Pricing at Pat's is reasonable, considering the generous portions and the iconic status of the establishment. It’s a great value for an authentic Philadelphia cheesesteak experience.
????Pat's King of Steaks in Philadelphia delivers on its reputation, offering a classic, delicious cheesesteak in a vibrant, no-nonsense setting. Whether you're a local or a tourist, a visit to Pat's is a rite of passage that provides a genuine taste of Philly's culinary heritage.
We had to stop by and try Pats. We also tried Genos but in my opinion, Pat' by a mile. Tons of cheese, very flavorful, and great bread! As expected, parking was a challenge but worth it. Good time.
It was good. Great meat with great cheese. Really soft and delicious meet. But cheese was all over the wrapping paper instead of in sandwich. As a result I just eat sliced steak with bread at some part of sandwich. That is why it is not 5 star.
