A scenic location along riverfront. Lots of restaurants from ordering from a window and sitting outside, to some nicer restaurants with seafood and views of the river.
Many many touristy shops, but some of them have some pretty cool and unique items. Maybe buy an ice cream or have some coffee and a baked treat and sit on the street side tables. There are also River tours and a beautiful old paddle wheel boat that has been converted into a nice restaurant and bar. You can also walk across the tower bridge to the other side of where there is a park between the river and some beautiful tall buildings. Including a giant pyramid! You can also rent an electric scooter and cruise around and explore both sides of the river. And the railroad museum is awesome!
It's a cool place with a lot of history. There are multiple shops lined up along the old cobblestone road to explore. Food, souvenirs, etc. There are a few saloons, the train museum, and the history museum (not the actual name, I cant recall the actual name.) Both offer tours and are very interesting to visit. Parking sucks. There is parking available but cash is worthless. Pay by phone or you wont find parking anywhere. Only free parking was motorcycle only.
It was fun. Wish there was more museums open and a few more restaurants. Had a great time. City kites was my favorite store. The best kite selection and gentleman was very passionate and awncered all my questions. Henna was expensive bit beautiful. Back of the fish house could use some clean up but over a fun day.
Old Sacramento is set just by the river and famous Railroad Museum we didn't manage to visit unfortunately, as we came late.
The whole area is pretty small (two parallel streets over 3 blocks), so you can cover it in an hour or two. Parking along the streets (metered) or across in a garage (more expensive).
We really enjoyed our time there, walking by beautifully restored buildings from 19c era in a wild west style, visiting some saloons, quirky shops, took a walk by the river to Tower bridge, etc...
However, there were homeless and sketchy people around, some of them yelling and arguing with nobody which spoiled our impression
My friend showed me around old Sacramento & it was my first time there. It was very busy & hot on Memorial Day. A lot of shops & beautiful scenery. I had a great time.
Old Town is so cool and genuine! There are eateries that have reasonable prices for the average person. The candy shops are fantastic but a bit pricey. The museums are a must! There is two hour metered street parking, as well as a few different garages (one is a flat rate, and one is an hourly rate). The sidewalks are wooden planks, and the streets are.old cobblestones, so it's a bit bumpy/difficult for someone on crutches or a scooter.
Old Sacramento is one of my favorite places to go when I want to relax. But it only works on the weekdays. The area is super busy on the weekends.
I like to check out the stores. Have a wonderful lunch or dinner here. Looking at the water moving on the river and the activities. It is a place where I can find almost everything! The classical wooden sidewalks and the stone roads are so beautiful.
Went here with family while visiting the area. SO fun! Historical stuff, shopping, eating, museums, the waterfront, boats, etc. Lots of people on Memorial Day weekend & little parking because of that, but totally understandable. Cool place to visit!
