Amazing!! First trip to DC. I was never real excited about seeing statues or monuments, but coming here and seeing these places is awesome.
It kind of hits you about where we've come from, becoming a nation, and regardless of political affiliation, what what do we have for the future. Seeing the Capitol building,it was surreal.
It's worth the trip! It truly is.
This was a grand sight to see. Beautiful grounds and scenery. Wasn't crowded and everyone was respectful. I enjoyed sitting at the top of the Lincoln Memorial and taking in the serene view. Felt surreal to be at a place that has holds so much history and meaning. Loved the planes flying by as well.
The National Mall is a prominent attraction in Washington, D.C., renowned for its exceptional urban design. Its vast green expanse, adorned with iconic monuments and museums, fosters a tranquil and inspiring ambiance. The strategic placement of these landmarks enables visitors to seamlessly navigate and comprehend the profound history and culture of the United States. It offers a truly remarkable and memorable experience.
Finding where to park that is near enough so that I don't have to walk too far and get exhausted before I actually admire the grand monument.
Enough complaints, this is not the first time. I have been here in the evening, in the afternoon and now early in the morning. Guess if you are looking at taking great pictures with blue skies and the early morning serenity makes the entire experience a tad more pleasant. Love the cold morning walk and the absence of people.
I was thrilled by the views. I could see the history that took place on those grounds. I often wonder if the younger people recognizing all that has taken place there. It was a step toward feeling complete (one with all I've learned from HS and College).
The National Mall is a great outside experience of what DC has to offer just with our nations history. Plan to just spend the day walking from one end to the other. Plan an extra day or two to hop from museums. You have the Washington Monument, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, all the pass the Smithsonian Museums to end at the State Capitol! It's a good 2 - 2.5 mile one way if you start at one end and go to the other. So a round trip is about 5 miles. Then add in going inside the Memorials and Monument, it easily turns into a whole day. Bring some water, but don't sweat it, there is drinking fountains up and down both sides of the Reflecting Pool. It's a great experience. I did it back in the 90's and I'm glad I did it again. So much has changed, but it was great to see some of the old with the new. Shows how are country needs to keep progressing moving into the future.
What a great place to visit. Would definitely plan ahead so that you enjoy all the sites in the area. The monument was sold out when we got there. But you can purchase tickets online in advance. Can’t wait to go back to visit in the Fall.
I must have experience in anyone's bucket list. A great part of our nation's capital that is great for adults and children. Definitely bring walking shoes to take advantage of all the sights and museums, most of which are free.
