As you can expect there is a line, but I can tell you that it is worth the wait. I was worried that I was going to be disappointed by the hypes surrounding the food. I can absolutely say that it was the best pastrami I’ve ever had. The pickles were amazing as well.
Our cutter was Tony, and he was very personable and asked us about our time in New York while he was preparing our food. He even threw in a couple of extra pieces of bread since we were getting it to go since obviously the sandwiches are huge. I highly recommend at least trying their thousand Island dressing. I was simply amazed at How good it was.
You have the option of going directly to a cutter to get your food to go or go into the back to be seated. There’s also another line for sides if you plan on getting food to go. They give you tickets at the door that the cutter or the person providing the sides will Complete and you will pay on the way out. The line is long, but it moves pretty fast considering what it looks like when you get there. It took us about 35 minutes to get inside and it was 3/4 of the way down the block.
Decided to take the train from New Brunswick to NYC to mark Katzs deli if the bucket list. The line was out the door when we arrived and about halfway down the block, but surprisingly only took 18 minutes to get inside. We chose table service and we're helped almost immediately.
The food was amazing. I had the pastrami Reuben which is my favorite sandwich and I've never had anything in the same class as this sandwich. Pastrami was most and plentiful and matched perfectly with the other ingredients. Also loved the pickles. Now I can't wait to go back.
Great sandwiches and cool vibe, but price is a little high and it's not extremely convenient to get to.
The method of ordering and paying is a little unique and can be confusing. Customers are given a ticket upon entering and as you order at different stations it is updated, then the ticket is used to pay when leaving. Using a card requires paying at the back.
The sandwiches are really great, but they should be for $25. Mine also fell apart very easily, but it was still delicious.
Amazing experience at this great deli. It was super busy when we went and the queue was round the block, but it moved quickly. We wanted to watch our meat being cut so we didn’t opt for table service. We ordered one pastrami sandwich between the two of us which was more than enough. It came with pickles too. Safe to say it was the best pastrami we’d ever tasted. Cooked to perfection and melt in the mouth. A must do whilst in NYC!
This was a spectacular experience! when we got out of the taxi, we saw a line but the taxi driver assured us. It would only be about 15 minute wait I would’ve waited an hour when you get inside. It’s pretty crazy. They hand you your ticket and don’t lose it because that’s the only way you can get out there serving and if you tip your server, he’ll give you some samples. I highly recommend the pastrami Ruben. My second choice is the beef brisket. The pickles were absolutely delicious. It wasn’t bad. The two of us got out of there less than $100 about $77 for 2 of us!! The sandwiches were humongous! I highly recommend going to this delicatessen for authentic New York pastrami sandwiches!
A well-known New York City establishment that is highly regarded and in demand. Although the establishment may appear intimidating due to the large number of people waiting to order, the process is actually quite efficient and organized. While there may be a wait, the exceptional quality of the food will make it worthwhile. The generous portions of delectable meat are served hot and are highly recommended. A suggestion is to request melted cheese for an enhanced flavor experience. One of the highlights of the experience was the opportunity to socialize with fellow patrons while waiting in line and sharing a table during the meal. The lively atmosphere and historical significance of the establishment contribute to a memorable dining experience. The pastrami is particularly noteworthy and should not be missed. Overall, it is an establishment worth revisiting.
Best moment in New York. The pastrami sandwich was very good. If there are two of you, it makes sense to order one. The sandwich is very big. They give you a receipt at the entrance and you should not lose it. When we went there wasn't much of a line, but within 10 minutes there was a line outside the door. When you order a sandwich, they take great care of you and make you taste it. A wonderful experience in every way. 10 out of 10.
Absolutely the best pastrami I’ve ever had! Though this spot is touristy indeed, the quality is also unmatched. We arrived around 10am on a Saturday and there was no line to enter the diner. The dining area is spacious and charmingly retro; you order at the counter with your deli ticket, find a seat, and might even end up in the famous spot from When Harry Met Sally!
Remember to bring cash for your visit. The price is on the higher side—$30 for a sandwich—but worth it for the experience in my opinion. The bread isn’t as impressive as the pastrami, but the overall meal makes up for it. The complimentary pickles are also a nice and refreshing side.
