Not impressed with the cashless system. Every swipe costs a company 3% or more depending on contract with card companies. This is out of its bottom line. I understand requirements for hotel rooms but seriously if the largest.money maker in the world ie: Disney can take cash to buy coffee and Kalahari resorts can't? Their suggestion buy a prepaid card. The card isn't the problem, cash is legal tender. Room was clean staff is above par and considerate. The staff are the gold standard of hospitality.
I see this is not the first review for this or my next concern, a 4:30 am bread truck delivery? Loved listening to them throw trays and wheel back and forth while being ripped from sleep. Hotel GM get it together. Refuse deliveries before say 7-8am if guest rooms line the loading bay.
When we first arrived, you had to check in on a computer screen. I get them trying to make things easier and not have to use staff, but it made things more complicated, and then there were long lines due to the people not being able to figure out the computers.
We got into our room, and it was still dirty. Like the cleaning people just decided to clean it fast, but not make sure everything was clean.
The food was expensive. If you wanted to rent a table with chairs that was crazy expensive as well. Very limited seating outside.
The best part of this trip was the water park. The outside was open, and my kids ages range from 1-11 and were all able to enjoy it. The water was a nice temperature as well. The inside had different sections that were fun for different age groups. The area they had for the little kids was even nice for the adults to enjoy. Highly recommend the indoor and outdoor water park!
November 2024|warning. 300 bussed in kids|I brought amy grandchildren up to the water park for a long weekend. We stayed in a large 2 bedroom suite. I expected the water park to be crowded on Saturday and Sunday. I asked when I made the reservation if there was anything going on on Monday or Tuesday. It was not a long weekend. I was informed that there was a convention in the hotel but they were all adults and in meetings during the day.|300 high school kids were dropped off for a field trip. 9 busses. They absolutely overran the park|The lines were so long it was impossible to go on the rides. There were over 20 in line for the flow rider. that meant over an hour and a half wait. My granddaughter took the surf training but was only able to go once the line in the back for the roller coaster and round slide was all the way down the stairs. |The resort was less than sympathetic We left the water park. I would have checked out early but the hotel wouldn’t allow us to leave. |I called customer service when we got home. Still waiting for a response||Read less|Finally heard back from Hotel |Pleased with the accommodation we reached|Still think having 300 bussed in kids is outrageous but at least they responded to my concerns
Pro:Huge resort and tons of entertainment options. Food on property was decent. waterpark seemed to be well-staffed and there were plenty of rafts. Trolley back and forth was a nice touch and came quickly every time. ||Con: Moved our room to a further building with no notice. We made it work considering we just had a super long flight and road trip to get there but the attitude of the desk when I called about it was a little flippant. "Youre in the new building, it's an upgrade. Do you want to move to the old rooms because you can?!" Not really the best customer service. ||Tips: Bring your own towels. They charge $25/day if you keep them overnight and there are a lot of people just snagging them from your spot. |Stay closer to the main lobby or waterpark so you don't have to walk so far if you have littles.
We chose to stay at Kalahari because of a deal & we wanted some evening activities without having to drive. We didn't have kids with us. Stayed 2 nights. We had fun playing arcade games & enjoyed the Brew Pub & that was about it. Tried the Piano Bar & there was no staff. There were guests & someone playing the piano, but we waited 5 minutes without even a bartender. Tried the Mexican restaurant & had to have my drink replaced because the glass had stuff all over it. We stayed in a room at the Sands portion of the hotel. The mattresses were the worst I have ever had at a hotel in this price point. Very noisy rooms (not guests). Showerhead was cheap. Allover the resort it was advertised that our pool area & its amenities were open, but they weren't. Parking should be better restricted so that staying guests can actually park near their hotel.
I think the idea of the resort and improvements are good. However the fees and rates are way too high!! I paid $500 then was hit with 200 fees and a 200 deposit. 500 tripped turned into a $1000+ You are paying for a 5 star resort but getting a 3 star back. 1. Everything closes early. Breakfast pool and parks close. Food is over priced and very bad look at the reviews. Then they didn’t have any storage for us to store our luggage so you have to bring a car if you arrive early. only thing good thing about this resort is the new hotel and some good staff that’s about it. I wish I could have paid half the cost then I would be at a 4 or 4.5 star. Oh yea the employees don’t speak English so get your Spanish ready for the housekeepers!
Update: my room was also charged for snacks that we didn’t eat so be sure to look over your bill!! This unacceptable just imagine how many people they can do this with
Where to start...first off, the reservation I booked was in the new Hillside building, which our family liked as the room would be new and we didn't mind being away from the busyness of the main hotel. At check in the front desk advised that we were "upgraded" to a room in the main hotel. We weren't asked, it seemed like the decision was already made for us. We were tired and ready to check in so I didn't argue and accepted this upgrade because I thought it might be a nicer room and easier to be closer to the waterparks, etc. Once we got up to our room I was at a loss, the room was basic, dated and had a view of a cement wall and the back alley/loading dock below...hardly an upgrade. We were on the last leg of our trip and were only staying two nights so we decided to suck it up and just try to enjoy the rest of our vacation. ||The rest of our stay was fairly uneventful, the one complaint we had was the noise at 7 am from the trucks at the loading dock below our window. Very loud and very annoying. ||My major issue with the hotel came after we checked out. The morning we checked out I was emailed an invoice for the two night stay, I reviewed it and everything looked right to me. We headed home and the following day I received another emailed invoice, same invoice, but this one included an additional charge of $22.42 for in room bottled water. I was puzzled as we were 100% sure we did not touch the hotel provided water or snacks from the mini bar tray. The only thing I could think of was that maybe one of the bottles of water fell behind the fridge because that had happened once during our stay when we were putting some of our own things in the fridge. I should mention that the mini fridge is just sitting out in the open (not contained within a cabinet) with a microwave on top of it and the tray with the in room drinks and snacks balanced on top of that. It's not secure in any way and the items in the tray could easily fall (and did!). My one regret was in our rush to leave I did not take a look and make sure nothing fell behind the fridge. ||Once I saw the added charge to our invoice I immediately contacted the hotel and, because it was a long weekend, I was not able to speak with anyone directly and left a voicemail with the billing department. I received an email from Beverly in the billing department the next day and she informed me that she had contacted management and would let me know once she heard from them. By this time it had been days since we checked out and if the bottle fell behind the fridge as I thought it may have, it would likely be too late and there would be no way to verify it. It took a full week for Beverly to respond to my email with a short response informing me that management was not able to remove the water charge. I immediately asked for her to put me in touch with management so I can discuss the issue directly with them, but it has been almost two weeks since our last exchange and she has not responded to my request. I beleive she is ignoring my request and has no intention of connecting me with management. ||In the meantime, I received the standard survey following our stay and asking us to rate our experience. I gave my honest opinion and laid out our issues and received a reponse from Rosaline, who is a guest services supervisor. She has been nice to deal with, however she was not able to resolve the water charge error for us as it seems like it is the call of management, who do not seem willing to budge on the issue and whom I cannot speak to directly. ||The hotel's unwillingness to rectify the situation is mind blowing as it's a bottle of water which likely cost them pennies and has cost me $30 (CDN). We've been offered all sorts of upgrades from Rosaline for our next stay but management is unwilling to refund a single bottle of water. Needless to say, the whole experience has soured the end of our vacation to the Dells. I will be sure that our family, and large extended family, will not be staying here in the future.
This resort has just about anything you could possibly want. Stayed in the Hill Side section of the resort. I believe this was the newer hotel. Very nice rooms, well decorated, clean & nicely designed. The beds were awesome, very comfy with lots of pillows. I would just tweak one thing, I would have 2 sinks as I had 2 double beds with the potential of 4 people in room. Loved all the plug-ins for media devices. The only really bothersome thing was all the door slamming each morning in the hallway as I could clearly hear it & it woke me up. This is a very family oriented resort with lots to do. If you're bored at all, it's your own fault. In the main building the guest services/concierge desk was not well marked. I had a lot of difficulty locating it. The gal at the desk (Joanie?) was great, very friendly. Self check-in was pretty easy, but there was someone there to assist if needed. I liked that option. It's a very modern up to date resort, which I appreciate. I definitely would stay here again.
