Terrific BBQ hands down. Also, one of the most unique places I've ever been to.
The place (I believe) was originally a gas station with Joe's BBQ located inside. Now, it's a BBQ with just one pump left. The funny thing is that it still has the layout of a gas station.
As with many iconic places, this place fills up quickly. We got here about an hour after the place opened and had to wait in line for about an hour.
As for food, everything was pretty solid, though some things were better than others. The burnt ends were very good. They had a bit of a crisp on the ends of them. The brisket and pulled pork had a very good flavor as well. As for the ribs, they were good but not out of this world good. The original BBQ sauce has phenomenal flavor.
Overall, Joes is well worth the visit. In fact, with it's unique atmosphere and delicious BBQ, it's a place that you must visit. It's certainly a staple if looking for good BBQ.
Came here for dinner, the ribs were moist and tender just how I like. The brisket was flavourful. We enjoyed the burnt end, again moist and tender. Service was quick. It certainly did not disappoint for us. Even the sides were delicious and not just an afterthought.
Such a neat little place. You can tell how all the employees make you feel like family. Then, to top it off, the food is EPIC! It's absolutely the best BBQ I've ever had in Kansas City! The Mac-N-Cheese is out of this world, the sausage is smoked perfectly, and the Burnt Ends were as delectable as any food I've ever had in my mouth! Can't wait to go back to this gem!
Joe's KC BBQ was just a gas station affiliated store, now it becomes well-known and popular even on non-weekends. All the beef and pork here are roasted at low temperature for a long time. I ordered MEAT BY THE POUND: Beef Brisket, Burnt Ends, Pulled Pork, and sandwich Rocket Pig: Pulled pork, topped with sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. After the order, you wait for waiter to call when it is ready like old days. Whether it's beef or pork, they are all full of rich, languid, sweet smoke, a bite will fill mouthful of soft, tender and juicy meat, and very satisfying.
Although there are many restaurants near my place, it should not be a problem to pick a Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai or Indian restaurant, but none of them are local specialties of KC, so I decided to try KC's favorite barbecue restaurant: Joe's KC BBQ, which happened to be one of the 13 restaurants recommended by my respected master chef Anthony Bourdain that you must eat before you die, it's little exaggeration, but really worth it.
What can I say that hasn't already been said. Yes there was a line. It moved fast. They were out of ribs which made me sad being my first time here and only passing through town. However, I wasn't sad for long because I ordered the Rocket. I was leery because I thought it may be too spicy but no it's just right. My only complaint was that I should have ordered the jumbo and not the regular. If you are ever in the area, this is must stop. No question. Very happy camper.
Best BBQ ribs in the country. Probably the whole world. It's like seasoned salt somehow encrusted into the meat. Incredible BBQ sauce, more sweet that hot. Amazing homebrewed beer. Beans were spectacular. Probably a line upon arrival, but lighting quick counter service once order is completed. An American and world treasure.
The food and service was great. The only down side is waiting in line. The line was out the door but definitely worth it. Just be prepared for that. You order at the counter and pick it up at the side counter. Seat yourself once you have your food. They have outdoor as well as indoor seating. Definitely suggest going here for dinner. We got a little bit of everything to try and it did not disappoint.
Amazing experience, was on a business trip here in Fairway, Kansas, local 85 year old resident recommended this place, he has been living in the area for over 50 years, and I was not disappointed. Good flavor, just the right amount of dry rub, the spicy fries were great too. Went back the next day for round 2! Grab the T shirts here if you need them, cheaper than at the airport.
