We are normally fans of parks that involve the outdoors. However this offered a unique experience. The history involved with the old bathhouses and hot springs really surprised us. We did a soak in one of the houses. Of course we love natural springs that you hike into but we did enjoy this especially the oatmeal salts.
Loved drinking the water there. Having hot spring water to drink was a first for us. We also recommend the hikes in the area. The scenic drive is worth doing too especially in Fall.
TL;DR: Hot Springs National Park is a charming stop with enjoyable camping, scenic trails, historical sites, and unique shops and eateries. Worth visiting, even in December!
Hot Springs National Park made for a great mini stop on my way west. Despite uncooperative weather during my visit, I still found the camping experience enjoyable and the trails and sites I managed to explore were well worth it.
The city itself is rich in history, with plenty of cool shops and great places to eat. The hot springs were a highlight, and the entire area is absolutely gorgeous, even in December. It’s a wonderful place to visit and take in both nature and history!
Beautiful park with lots to see and do. The hot springs are a must as well as a visit to the historic bath houses. Do yourself a favor and be sure and book spa services or at the minimum a soak in the hot spring waters in one of the bath houses. There is amazing architecture to be seen and you can watch the sights go by on one of the covered porches while you enjoy a glass of wine or beer, and they are dog friendly. Don't miss the promenade behind the main strip and enjoy a nice walk with your pet. See several hot springs and get a nice view of downtown. Be sure and visit the hot spring fountain where you can fill up your own water jugs to take back home. This is the best tasting water you will ever have.
Ideal for those who enjoy all levels of hiking. The trails are beautiful and well-marked and there are trails maps at each of the trail heads that you can use to get around. Even during their busy season, the park is pretty quiet with lots of opportunity to see wildlife. Views are beautiful and plenty.
Went on vacation here for a week stayed at Starlight Village in a Geodome. It was an awesome week. Ended up extending our stay an additional day and still didn't get all we wanted to do, done. Definitely want to make a return trip some day in the future.
What an interesting and unique national park. Walking bathhouse row, we learned about the history of the bathhouses, those who sought the healing waters, and the thermal springs. The Lamar bathhouse is where the visitor center is, as well as a multistory museum, where everything has been kept in its original condition. Definitely do not skip out on this museum (free). They were also doing ranger led walks, but we didn’t participate. The national park area is very walkable with a lot of handicapped accessibility. We were there mid November, on a Saturday, it was nice weather and very busy; had difficulty finding a parking place.
We made it up to the Mountain Towers Observation and the breathtaking views make you fall in love with the Hot Springs area. Maybe we should leave the city life and move here was racing in my head. The hike up was a short distance of 0.63 miles. It was a nice refreshing sweat that can be quenched by the Natural Hot Spring Water with minerals that was obtained from the free Hot Spring Fountain next to the Bath Houses. Just beautiful!
The hot springs are amazing and located on bathhouse row. I was super amazed at the west mountain trails but did like Whittington park. There were some great views from the top of west mountain.
